Lo and behold I came across this ol' joint; looks like serendipity had my back. I was wary at first but through caution to the winds and ordered, if my memory serves me correctly, a meaty beast of a pizza with a token amount of onions so I can persuade myself I had a healthy intake of veg. Hey with the tomato purée on there that's almost two of my five a day. Couple that with the apples in the cider I'd had in the pub earlier and I was feeling pretty healthy to be honest. The pizza, when it eventually came, smelled awesome and upon taking it home and devouring it was not disappointed. All the ingredients complemented each other well - I'm not going to take credit for this, the guy there did give me advice on which things to mix and which to avoid - and I was stuffed well before finishing it. For the price (about £7 or £8) it was excellent value, and tasted almost as good again when I unashamedly rocked the old student cliché and reheated it for breakfast. A good find

The pizzas here are not quite to the quality of Domino's or Pizza Hut but a lot closer to that quality than they are from your standard greasy pizza place, but at really great prices. They do some pretty good student deals here, if I was getting a pizza on my own I opted for a large twelve inch pizza with four toppings which was £6, or if I was sharing I got an eighteen inch pizza with four toppings which is very reasonably prices at £10.50- just over a fiver each, which offers good value for money.

But it all came crashing down at the end when I went to pay and the waiter tried to guilt me into tipping - which is not a common practice in the UK. He hovered over me as I put my card in the machine and the dreaded percentage options showed up on the screen as well as "No Tip" and "Custom Amount." I felt I was back in the U.S., where there's quite a lot of controversy about these screens but at least the staff usually look away at that time. This guy helpfully explained that I could tip - or not tip. Yeah, thanks. OK, buddy. No tip for you. I should have gone to Wetherspoon's.

Their website looked really upmarket, with promises of amazing service and dedication to preparing the best and freshest food etc etc, so I was expecting it to be quite pricey. I wouldn't have minded paying twice as much as we did for the food, if not more; our meal was that good. We went for their 3 Course Set Lunch offer which will set you back a grand total of £6.50 a head (?!) and this place is now my favourite Italian restaurant in Edinburgh. It's nothing fancy, but then it doesn't try to be: from the second you walk in you immediately pick up on the family-run, authentic vibe and it makes you feel really relaxed. I love italian food and I've been searching all over Edinburgh for that perfect little local Italian place, the one you go to when you can't be bothered to cook but still want to go somewhere you know will be good yet cheap. I've lived here for 4 years now, and I think I can stop looking.

Everything was delicious and service was great, all at a very reasonable price . Definitely wouldn't get the quality and price in a major city in the states. Pomo Pizzeria is located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh and was just a stones throw away from our hotel. We sat down and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves! Their menu features pizza, pasta, a variety of share plates (appetizers) and more with a good amount of kid friendly options too. Posted on their wall, you'll also find their specials that include drinks and dessert. We went with a capricciosa pizza, risotto funghi misti, and penne arrabiata. For dessert, vanilla ice cream! Our food came out quickly and overall, pretty good. Flavors were a bit light and could've been seasoned more, but still good and didn't feel heavy on the stomach. What I really liked about the restaurant was the decor. It was totally my jam with a bit of the old world charm in the use of wood and their brick walls, mixed with modern fixtures and features. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood! Prices are fair and don't break the bank.
