Marco's New York Italian MediaCityUK - The béchamel style sauce was the best part of the meal with onion rings

Oh my word it was greasy spoon dishes albeit at greasy spoon prices…read more We had only come away from the contracted - out, Coronation St (95 minute tour - £35 a head) that opened at ITV's studio site near the Lowry just in March 2022. We remembered this MPW place fondly though this was pre covid. The reputation brought us back. The restaurant was closed at 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon except for pre booked afternoon tea, so we were invited to order from the downstairs pub menu, which we did, after all we were told the food was from the same kitchen and, after all, it's MPW so it'll be ok, right? There was little on this menu that I wanted. I'm not a big fan of beef burgers and the meat - based pasta dishes didn't excite - very few fish options - just deep fried cod or farmed salmon. So I tried a brown bread, cod fish finger sandwich. This was a first ever for me as I thought I'd be served a small portion of quality food. I think my wife thought I'd lost my senses. Nope, I was wrong too. It was greasy spoon muck. I'd be astonished if the (3) lukewarm battered fish fingers - that were deep fried and tasted quite greasy - are not bought in pre - frozen from a supermarket. I had rocket on the plate with awful coleslaw (seemed a vegan liquid) and tartare sauce from a jar - if I'm wrong about coming from a jar it sure tasted like it. After tasting I set both aside as they were grim. Most of the sliced, factory - made bread, that wasn't toasted, was also left on the plate. I ordered a side portion of beer battered French fried onions (£3.95 for 8). Again, they were warm, not hot. Had they been served hot they would likely have been really tasty, but here too they were poor and greasy. They did come with a very good béchamel style sauce, so more by accident than design I at least had a sauce to add to the greasy, lukewarm, fish fingers. My wife ordered up a club sandwich with French fries. She says it was fine. Code for not very good - 3 star. Again the fries are factory made so even MPW staff can't even be arsed anymore. I do realise and repeat that we paid greasy spoon cafe prices but I did expect it to be so much better. I'd be happy to pay more for quality. Finally according to the menu, my dish was meant to come with salted crisps but they were left off. I didn't say a thing as I'd enough grease already before me. The bill that included one Coke Zero was £30.05. I rarely ever feel sick as I've a cast iron constitution but as I write this late evening same day review I'm feeling queasy. We won't rush back.

I'm sorry to say Marco's New York Italian MediaCityUK really has gone down-hill in terms of quality…read morebased on my past two experiences in the past year, it seems every dish I've ordered just hasn't been right. Not only is it awkward entering the restauraunt which involves going through a corridor with many doors through conference rooms of the Holiday Inn, but it can also be hard to find a staff member as I was waiting in an unstaffed restauraunt for over five-minutes without a table. I found my gluten-free pizza to be doughy, while my Christmas Dinner was just a mess with hard vegetables and chewy meat, meanwhile, the bread of my burger was also doughy with the meat dry and overcooked. A real shame to see this place go down-hill especially as it falls behind MPW standards. 1*

I have visited Prezzo at Media City a couple of times now, with the two branches in the city centre…read moreclosing down, this is one of two remaining Prezzo locations within Greater Manchester, alongside a branch in Bolton. This place is fairly nice, the food is relatively cheap when combined with the offers available (Gourmet Society, Tastecard, Tesco Clubcard and regular promotions offered on their website), the store also looks especially good from the outside too, with the glass and lighting, especially in the evenings. The gluten-free selection is pretty good, there are numerous dishes including starters, pizza, pasta and desserts - I do dislike the pasta here, however. The gluten-free pasta is fusilli only, I just don't like fusilli pasta and when I tried it here, I was left dissapointed. The staff are generally quite friendly and the service is fast enough. I most recently ordered two starters, the meatballs and gluten-free garlic bread and cheese, both of these were a fairly good standard, the portion sizes were generous. I would however recommend the "sharing" portion of garlic bread and cheese, as the regular version is tiny and it is well worth paying the extra surcharge to get a bigger portion. PRO TIP: Order this to arrive with your main course and share it as a side. This isn't the place you'd go for an authentic Italian meal, but if you're looking for some decent food at relatively cheap prices in Media City, which is one of my favourite areas of Manchester outside of the city centre for dining, this is the place for you. I would certainly return here again, and I do think this location is much better than other Prezzo locations I have visited, which I have found to be hit and miss over the past couple of years, this branch seems to have been consistently satisfactory/good. 4*

I am a self-confessed calzone fiend and Prezzo does some of the tastiest calzones I've tried…read more They're only a short distance from my office, next to Wagamama in MediaCityUK (see review http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/wagamama-salford) so the temptation to be a regular diner is immense. If you're a large group, it probably makes sense to book in advance, though we've been able to just stroll in at lunchtime and get a table for eight with no problem. The service has always been friendly and efficient and it's nice to be able to see the chefs working away in front of the pizza oven. My biggest tip would be to make sure you get an online voucher before you go; they regularly do 'second main course for £2.50' type deals and we've never had to pay full price for our food. The range of pasta dishes are also really good and plentiful, though the pizzas are better IMO - I'd choose to eat here over any other Italian 'chain' anyday.
