I've been to the Gusto in Cheadle before and I loved it so I was really looking forward to trying the one in central Manchester. Gusto is a bit of a treat so it was nice to get dolled up and make an evening of it with a girlfriend, my favourite kind of evenings at the moment! And on the January 50% off food deal, we couldn't go wrong really. Upon arrival we were seated at the bar and seen to quickly, once our table was ready our buzzer went off and a hostess arrived to take us across. There were always staff present when we needed them and they couldn't have been more helpful. The venue is beautiful, the fairy lit trees dotted around the tables create a lovely ambiance. I preferred the interior in Manchester to the one in Cheadle. I ordered the mussels in white wine sauce to start - disappointing as quite a few of them had grit in them! I would have expected better from a place like Gusto but it wasn't the end of the world. I really appreciated the hand wash bowl with lemon that was provided with the fishy starter, much needed. For my main I went for the salmon and dill tagliatelle which I've had before, and it was gorgeous. My friend was equally impressed with her starter of garlic mushrooms and sweet and sour aubergine main. Overall a fun night with good food and service in a beautiful venue.

I highly anticipated the opening of the new Gusto on Deansgate. I had been given fantastic feedback about other Gusto's - particularly the one in Alderly Edge which is meant to be lovely - and with this being Living Ventures 10th Gusto Restaurant I knew I wouldn't be left disappointed. The restaurant has set up home in Elliot House, on Deansgate, with its entrance being just round the corner on Lloyd Street. It's a lovely building and gets even better when you go inside. A few small steps lead you up into the reception area, where we were greeted by two lovely hostesses, one of whom found our booking straight away and led us through the restaurant to our table. First impressions, very pleasant. The restaurant itself is very large - a lot bigger than I was expecting - but the décor was elegant and classy and the layout of the tables complemented the space even further. It is dimly lit, allowing for a romantic and cosy atmosphere but yet still remains quite formal. There is an island-style bar standing proudly in the centre of the restaurant, serving up some outstanding cocktails. My favourite, the cherry and coconut sour! The menu boasts classic Italian dishes and some more contemporary ones too! To nibble, I started with some Marinated Olives, which were lovely. And ordered the Fritto misto of sardine, prawn and squid with pan fried garlic polenta, green gazpacho and lemon purée for a starter. It was lovely and just the right sized portion for a starter. Tim C. ordered the deep fried Calamari with lemon mayonnaise and he really enjoyed it. For my main course, I debated a while - so many things on the menu sounded lovely. I would have ordered the whole salt baked sea bass, but sadly they were out of it so I opted for the smoked salmon and dill rigatoni tossed with cream, peas and spinach. It was a large portion and it was good. I may have ordered a garlic bread with mozzarella too..! A spicy nduja salami and potato pizza with sweet tomato sauce, mozzarella, mascarpone and sliced white onion came for Tim. He found it spicy, but spot on! I wasn't going to have a dessert, but when I was shown the menu I could not pass up the opportunity to try their Nutella and mascarpone calzone - yes, a Nutella pizza!! My two most favourite things in the world.. and Oh My Lord.. it was incredible! Overall my first Gusto experience was fab - and with the 50% off offer on throughout all of January too, there's just no excuse not to come here! As far as Italian restaurants go, this is one of my favourites in Manchester.

This is one of my favourite places to eat in Manchester, purely because it never lets me down every time I visit. I have ate here possibly around 6-7 times with it being facing my office, and on each occasion I never have any complaints or niggles. Although it is 'just an Italian' and is part of a chain, the menu is extensive with so many offerings that deviate from the normal bog standard Italian dish. Of course there is the regular tomato and garlic pasta, but there are also so many pasta and risotto dishes with lobster, prawn and various seafood which you don't always find. The pizza choices are also slightly adventurous, with duck, tuna and butternut squash as some of the more unique topping choices. I opt for the roast pork gnocchi the majority of the time, which comes with cherry tomatoes, rocket and pesto. It doesn't sound anything overly fancy but it's my favourite pick from Gusto, as the pork is delicious and the overall dish is just extremely tasty. On my last visit, I went for cauliflower soup as the starter, which I feel may be a new addition to the starters It's lovely and creamy with a herb crust topping and foccacia bread - just light enough for a starter before a heavy pasta meal. The interior is beautiful - an old grand building with high ceilings and smart little booths. Possibly one of the other reasons I love this place so much. A tiny negative is that sometimes the staff can be fairly slow to attend to you. I usually find this is the case at this particular Gusto, however my latest visit wasn't like this, so keep it up staff! Can't recommend enough

What a stunning venue and stunning food! Really enjoyed our visit here - star treatment without the price tag. We sat in a booth and the service was attentive throughout... somehow made our way through 3 courses too! The hand rolled meatballs and mussels were rich and indulgent starters, while the pork belly and steak were real comforters for a cold autumn night. Tip - swap the chips for truffle fries and order a rocket and Parmesan salad on the side! Somehow we managed to save room for dessert. Was a bit of a shame that two of the options weren't available, although the brownie and sorbet soon put smiles back on our faces. Especially washed down with a few digestifs! Would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion - it may be a chain but it certainly doesn't feel like one!

First visit for Gusto yesterday. Gusto was one of the many restaurants in Manchester which are having specials offers in January - in the case of Gusto, it was 50% off food like most restaurants. The inside is very large. It sort of has a 1950s New York hotel/bar/restaurant style - which wasn't expecting for an Italian restaurant. Thats what I think anyway. Their web site says style is inspired by the traditional grand cafes of Europe As usual, I had a quick look at the menu before visiting but I saw that they did rib eye steak - which always catches my eye. Anyone who knows me, will know I love steak! For starter, I went for calamari. Can't go too wrong with deep fried calamari - although actually if cooked bad, it can be chewy. Tasted nice though. Nice dip which it came with but although bit lacking of much green on the plate - would have been nice a bit of a small salad (maybe being bit picky). For the main, I had the rib eye steak. As already mentioned I do love steak and whenever its on a menu, more often than not I will order it. It was a 10oz steak according to the menu but when it came it looked bigger than that. The actual steak was "OK". I found it too salty, it wasn't that tender and had to use a fair amount of effort to cut it. Also, you could argue it was a bit too charred out the outside. I ordered mine medium-rare and it was probably about right (maybe a bit more towards medium). My cousin had the rib eye steak too and even though the steaks were the same size, his was almost rare in the thicker bits. Luckily hes OK with it like that. The steak did not come with any chips (fries) so had to order those as sides. Currently there have an offer on their signature cocktails - £5 I think instead of £8.95 - although it has to be when you're at the bar - so I couldn't take part of the offer with my meal. Service was not too bad. Its one of those times where half marks in Yelp would be good. Would have been 3.5.

goats cheese pizza & carbonara (2016)

Catching up after work last Thursday, Kate W. and I headed to Gusto to take advantage of their pre-theatre menu for £19.95. We booked for 6.15 as this particular menu is only available before 7pm, and were seated promptly on arrival. The restaurant was packed; a mixture of large groups, couples and individuals simply having a drink at the bar made for a buzzing but not overpowering environment. Our waitress came over to apologise for a small wait of about 10 minutes, and returned soon after to take our order. The pre-theatre menu is stingy on starters - 3 variations of bruschetta only - but generous on mains, with fish, pizza, a burger and pasta options available, plus an aperitivo cocktail to start. Not wanting to delay anything further we ordered both drinks and food at the same time, then simply sat back and waited for everything to arrive! Unfortunately, our food came before our drinks, so we instantly felt on the back foot service wise. My tomato and basil bruschetta was okay, with nice crunch bread, but parts of the chopped tomato were far too salty for my taste. The drinks arrived roughly half way through; my aperitivo was vanilla based, topped up with soda and prosecco, and tasted not unlike melted ice cream. Lovely, but better before the meal rather than as an 'in between' courses addition. We ordered a bottle of wine when the starter plates were removed, and this arrived more promptly, with an ice bucket just to the side of the table. This addition, although welcome for a chilled bottle, did make leaving the table quite difficult and we felt very close to the neighboring tables. My main of goats cheese and red onion pizza was a marked improvement on the starter, with the toppings well dispersed and plenty of gooey goats cheese. The based was nice and doughy, though could have done with a few more minutes in the oven for some real personality. Kate's carbonara looked lovely and, based on the forkful I had, the pasta was cooked lovely and al-dente. Ever wanting to stretch a meal further, we also shared some of the doughnuts with cream and chocolate sauce. The doughnuts were served warm but with cold sauce, which seemed odd, and there was evidence of it splitting during some kind of heating process in the past. The meal was good but not one I'm rushing to revisit; although the food was okay, it didn't stand out as anything special.

This is my first visit to Gusto since it opened so when a friend suggested we go there on Christmas Eve Eve for a cocktail after work, I thought why not. Well, "a cocktail" turned into 3 cocktails and dinner. My first cocktail was a Black Raspberry Sling and my friend's first cocktail was the Vanilla and Strawberry Martini. My drink was very nice and I could imagine it being very refreshing in the summer. The second and third cocktails were the Fig and Hazlenut Martini and boy it was so nice, I highly recommend it. Part the way through our second drink, my friend's boyfriend turned up with work colleagues. They had been out all afternoon and had booked a table for food on their way to meet us. I had my arm twisted into staying out for longer - it's still hurting now. My food choice was the gnocchi with pork. It was absolutely gorgeous and would highly recommend it Next time I will wash it down with a nice glass of red. My friend had the taglitelle arrabiata with pepperoni. I had a taste and it was very nice, although spicier than other arrabiata's I've had in other places. Others on the table ordered the seafood pizza (very nice apparently), steak with spinach and butternut squash (also nice apparently) and then someone ordered the mussels from the starter menu. Apparently the sauce with it was really top notch and better than others in Manchester. Also, love the decor in the place, very 1930s. I highly recommend a visit to this place, if you haven't been already.

Service was excellent and they managed to get us a table almost immediately even though it was quite crowded. Waitress was extremely attentive and provided very good food recommendations. Ambience wise it was really nice and cosy and gave a sense of warmness. Locations also superb as it was very close to the city center. I ordered the cauliflower soup and the carbonara. The cauliflower soup was cream based and it was extremely flavourful. The richness of the soup went really well with the olive bread they provided. The carbonara was very traditional Italian in which it wasn't cream based but tossed with egg. An absolute delectable delight.

Not a great experience at Gusto. We arrived at the restaurant with a warm welcome and was shown to our table which seemed ok at first. Until we noticed that it was right next to the kitchen. The staff was making a lot of noise. Ive been to open restaurants before where you can see the kitchen but never have i heard so much chaos and shouting from one place. So we asked to be moved to a much quieter part of the restaurant which they did. We then ordered some signature cocktails from the menu and when i asked if they were on offer on the board near the entrance way for £4.95 he said that it was only available at that price at the bar? so i decided to go to the bar to order them, then the waiter came over and said he would do it for that price and take my order from the table, i asked if the mojitos was in the offer and he said yes, but then he came back to me and said they weren't? My friend said that he would pay for them, half way through eating our starter the waiter came over asking my friend to pay for the cocktails which i found very rude and they should have waited before we finished before coming over to make sure that we had paid for our cocktails. The meal was pretty nice to be honest and my tagliatelle with prawns and garlic was lovely. The rest of the evening was great but had a few issues at the beginning, so if you decide to eat at Gusto make sure your table is not near the kitchen.

I went here to meet a couple of friends on a busy Saturday evening. The cocktails were good, not worth the price though. I had a peach and elderflower martini, then moved on to the prosecco, which wasn't the best I'd had. There wasn't a great amount of choice for my dietary requirements, but I eventually ordered a chicken salad (minus the goat's cheese and the dressing, which contains gluten) with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and had a couple of bits of a sharing meat platter. My friend found a hair in her burger, and the manager didn't handle this well, saying that none of his chefs had long brown hair, but this hair suspiciously looked exactly the same colour and length as our waitress' hair, and she apologised. I wouldn't hurry back here, I expected a lot more from my dining experience after hearing others' reviews and it just didn't live up to this

I can take or leave olives but these were so moreishly flavoured. The menu consists of the usual Italian segments. Meat, fish , pizzas and pasta. The Meat and fish were really pricey so for starters I opted for a antipasti without the bread for and a seafood risotto for mains. My friends ordered a garlic bread to share and pate while I scoffed the antipasti which consisted of various parmaham, artichoke, prawn salad, cheese and chorizo. This was well presented and tasty..definitely manageable for one person! Next the risotto..again this was cooked beautifully and went well with a large glass of malbec. My friends ordered a simple carbornara which looked really rich. To finish we ended the meal with a liquere coffee. Overall this was a nice Italian..I haven't had much luck with the ones in Manchester! But yes quite pricey if you want something other than a pasta or pizza dish..and they do try charging you a optional service charge. Decor and ambiance is classic Italian with bold reds and "romantic. " I might be back after I've checked out the others .

The restaurant has more of an Italian feel to it than pseudo-Italian restaurants such as Felicini, and the staff were Italian too, which added to the air of authenticity. Prices are pretty standard - ranging from £6.50 for a margarita (but who orders a margarita?!) to £17.50 for the sea bass. We stuck to pizzas, which were delicious, but for the more wealthy and adventurous there is quite a varied menu including duck marinated in orange liqueur and several variations on the fillet steak. Vegetarian choices are not quite so exciting though there are still a couple of pizzas and pasta dishes to choose from. So, it's an authentic Italian restaurant with good reasonably priced fare. Why only 3 stars? Well, we were sitting not more than 20cm (I kid you not) from another table. I usually quite enjoy a good eavesdrop, but this was too close for comfort. It felt like we should've been sharing food and chatter with the couple next to us. Of course we're British and were too polite to complain as the restaurant was busy at the time, but this little predicament has encouraged me to head over to Don Giovanni's next time I'm on Oxford Street and in the mood for an Italian.

Being one of the first restaurants to reopen for dine-in, I decided to give this place a chance despite my bad experience at their sister restauraunt, Fumo on New Years Day 2020. The Reservations system is awful, due to the ongoing NHS Track and Trace programme, everywhere from pubs to restaurants must, of course, record their diners information with table bookings wherever possible however the online booking system wouldn't accept either one of my emails, with an off-brand Yahoo email or Protonmail, this meant I had to enter a fake email so I didn't receive any confirmation to my booking, which was concerning. The restauraunt is accessed by a couple of steps but there is a disabled entrance which appears to be unsafe as they place a ramp on a very narrow side-street where there is a curb, meaning it can be very difficult for a disabled person to safely use it. They should speak to Manchester City Council regarding extending the pavement or dropping the curb for customer safety. Big changes to the usual dining experience due to the pandemic included protective screens, similar to buses and supermarkets to separate tables and they used disposable menus. Unlike other restaurants, they still had table service without the need to order on an app. My first disappointment was, of course, the reservations system, and the next a violation of UK law which warranted a complaint to the licensing department at Manchester City Council. They refused to serve me tap water. Under UK law, any place which serves alcohol must also serve tap water. Instead, I had to buy a beverage which I didn't want, an orange juice advertised at fresh (which wasn't) for £3.60. This is serious on its' own as it is a breach of the business' alcohol license. The staff also seemed pretty rude, I was originally told they didn't have gluten-free pasta, only to be told they did (bad communication). They also seemed disgusted with the fact I'd ask for tap water (I don't like drinking with standard lunch meals on my own and prefer water), I also had to ask on three occasions to remove the service charge which is optional (It wasn't stated anywhere), I mean I ordered one course and a drink I didn't want for one person, a service charge is a little much? Interestingly, as soon as I sent an item back and denied the service charge at their sister restauraunt, the staff turned on me and turned "toxic" and it seemed to happen again, the staff member seemed openly angry when I denied the service charge, he sighed and tutted very loudly which made me feel uncomfortable. This is after he pretended not to hear me when I asked to remove it the first two times. The restauraunt was surprisingly busy, I don't think the staff were controlling alcohol intake either, this is supposed to be a classy and high-end restauraunt, with the clientele often including footballers, Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City was spotted here recently. Considering this, the fact they let customers openly walk around shouting very loudly made what was supposed to be a high-end experience, seemed cheap in everything but the price. My Gluten-Free Carbonara, unlike Fumo, came out rather quickly and was hot, however, the pasta just didn't taste fresh and the sauce was so bad, it tasted like dishwater and bleach combined. Gross. I've made much better fresh pasta myself which really shocks me considering the reputation this place has made, I'm not sure if they're trying to cut back on the experience due to revenue lost in the pandemic but that is no excuse for subpar food, rude staff and a breach of the law of the land. Multiple breaches here which means I no longer feel sorry for the business from breaches to customer safety, their alcohol license while serving subpar foods at premium costs. I have no intentions to return to any San Carlo location based on today, propped up by my bad experience at San Carlo Fumo earlier this year. 1*

Having been impressed by their Prestwich branch, where I most recently awarded it a three-star rating (previously a four!), I decided to try this out after stumbling across Croma on UberEATS. Originally the app didn't allow me to specify gluten free - this is something which needs addressing however after a quick call with the store, the manager seemed friendly to assist and make sure my order was gluten-free and I could still get my food. The restaurant its self is an impressive old building, it is up a couple of steps to get in - which could be a problem for some. I ordered a Gluten Free Americana pizza, the pizza its-self was quite good quality, the passata was a little runny at times but overall the pizza was a decent pizza, especially for gluten-free, much beating most other takeaways I could have had including Domino. The overall prize was good too for delivery, my pizza came delivered the short half a mile journey to the Hilton Manchester Deansgate for £11, the delivery free was set by UberEATS and cost around £2.50 in that total. The pricing for eating in, however, is pretty much average, with it being a small restaurant they lack the offers which bigger chains do, meaning it could work out slightly more expensive than rivals, including (but not limited to) Bella, Pizza Express and Zizzi. The menu selection is pretty good too, if you like pizzas but maybe not so much for everything else. is this somewhere I'd order from or visit again? Yes, and it does definitely warrant a solid three-star rating, issues with pricing when dining inside, selection other than pizza including starters and sides, and the access issues mean I sadly don't feel I can go any higher than a score which would match Croma's other branch I've visited in Pretswich, of three-stars.

One of the things I loved about Insolito is the Italian authenticity - it is managed and staff by Italians and is really pleasant to see, and the staff are extremely friendly and provide great service. The pizzeria is situated perfectly on Mosley Street opposite the Manchester Art Gallery and near the recently re-developed St. Peter's Square. Inside, it's eloquently decorated with large floor to ceiling windows, which opens up the pizzeria.

I decided to call here to grab some food, having been impressed with their gluten-free selection of risottod and pastas online, however their gluten-free menu was a pretty lazy laminated list compared to their very good online system - It didn't even describe the dishes eg) what is inside the risotto, type of pasta and it even didn't include some menu dishes including the pumpkin risotto. They have step-free access through the main 1 St Peter's Square building but it is still rather difficult as they seem to block it off with barriers for some bizarre reason. The food is tapas style and I really struggle to comprehend the need for italian style tapas, especially considering the prices are only slightly cheaper than what you'd pay for a full sized dish, meaning if you do purchase a couple (which you have to do), it can work out pretty expensive. The food was pretty slow and when my gluten-free carbonara was served it was cold, it did taste rather nice apart from that however after sending it back for it to be reheated it appeared that they remade it to the point it was sloppy with too much sauce and just not as good: it was obviously rushed and the worst part: it wasn't much hotter? Still being hungry, I decided to order the lobster risotto which is where everything turned. I sent my food back as the risotto just wasnt good, the rice was dry while the tomato flavour was just disgusting, it tasted like vommit. The lobster was even poor quality. After complaining, the manager forced me to explain three times what was wrong with it (he didnt seem to care or pay attention), after I asked them to knock it off my bill he originally refused because 'I already had used a 50% off food.' I mean come on, how can you charge someone for food that poor, looking down on someone for using a promotion they offer to all customers with a reservation anyway? To make matters worse, they charged me for a spaghetti dish which would have cost £4 more than the price anyway which he also refused to change at first. It seemed from that point onwards I was looked down upon, no staff member even looked at me, thanked me or said goodbye and left me to struggle to get out of the store including the doors and barriers - they just didn't care. The atmosphere was toxic and with a manager causing this what hope does Fumo have? No one even apologised to me for my issues, nor did they even explain the unique restaurant concept. A disgrace to the San Carlo name and brand, failing to treat their patrons with any decency. It is a real shame my first review of 2020 has to be a negative one. 1*
