I'd heard good reviews, even from Italians and it didn't dissapoint. I gave it 4/5 because the fried starters were a little bland - the salted cod fishcakes weren't salted at all. My starter was great - I had the beef carpaccio. The mains courses were all really tasty and my pizza was awesome. I went for the one with porcini mushrooms but substituted the spek for Italian sausage. Yummy! Service wasn't 'high standard', it was really Italian style. - which I loved. Will definitely be going back.

    Antipasti for one

So I saved this place for last as I could see it highly recommended. Booking it for the three of us on a Wednesday night was a wise decision. It's not the biggest of places and it was packed with italians..I took this to be a good sign. Two of us arrived on time to be seated at a table which was near the bar / open kitchen . At my back was the door which would remain open most of the night due to human traffic much to our annoyance. While we waited for third to join we shared the antipasti for one at 14 quid. I found this to have little meat..some unpleasant cheese and breadsticks... Also the presentation was dreadful..very simliar to picking up sticks. The mojito I ordered was tasty but served in a rather short glass. When our third person decided to join us we ordered soup of the day (fish soup for a tenner) focaccia and cheese in breadcrumbs. My soup was not very soup like and had some mussels..one large prawn and mainly squid.. shoved into a small square pot..two small bits of bread lay either side to mop up the spoonful of of juice.. My friends focacia bread just looked like bread ..and the staff kept taking the balsamic away. For mains I had tuna steak which I requested it specifically to be pink in the middle..it was far from it .but moist...my friends carbonarra looked ok and seafood pasta. I had to explain later hat a liquere coffee afterwards which was okay.. and the profiterols were pretty much the last thing available on the menu for dessert ..these were covered in squirty cream.. I found the service hit and miss..the food average for the price and the door being left open all the time annoying. Also the way they kept taking stuff off our table without an explanation..I paid 56 quid for my meal alone. I found Giorgos far more superior and paid that for two people.. unfortunately I won't be back here.

Last Saturday afternoon brought me to Salvi's Cucina and what a lovely little restaurant it is. I must have walked past Salvi's so many times, they have a prime location on John Dalton Street, but until Neil C. mentioned them to me, i honestly had never thought to go. We arrived in the early afternoon for a late lunch and the restaurant was so busy! and rightfully so. The manager found us a table but mentioned that they would need it back in 1 hour as it was reserved for a booking. We didn't mind that, so we took our seats at a little table near the window. The menu is full of authentic Italian dishes, some of which i would loved to have tried, but the heart wants what the heart wants - and for me, that was pizza. The pizza's looked fabulous so after ordering some marinated mixed olives to share as an appetizer, i ordered the Pizza Tirolese - Porcini mushrooms, bufala, speck and mozzarella. It was huge, the base was thin and crispy and the toppings weren't too heavy and went together very well. As much as i wanted to, i couldn't finish it. I had a lovely glass of red wine in here too. I didn't choose it, as i would have no idea which wine to choose, but luckily Neil C. knows his wines. He chose Barolo and it was very nice. I can imagine i'll be back to Salvi's Cucina in the future!

More like a 4.5 :) The customer service, price and quality were all top notch. We shared a mozzarella ball to start, which was super creamy and delicious, the sundried tomatoe and basil garnish complimented the cheese well. I ordered the puttanesca for my main, which was delicious and it was all washed down with a bottle of the house white, at £16 it was a steal! My friend is vegetarian and the chef happily made her a vege carbornara using mushrooms, she said it was yummy. I'd bought a voucher from Manchester Confidential, it cost me £25 and we were able to use it as we would £50 cash! The bill came to £51 which was perfect :) A great meal and evening.

Bruschetta Con Taleggio (toasted bread with Taleggio cheese)

Can you describe a restaurant as 'handsome'? Well if so, Salvi's Cucina most certainly is. When you enter you feel as though you've left Manchester behind and stepped into a Naples eatery - it's modern in decor but traditional in atmosphere, with a busy open kitchen. After a friendly welcome we perused the menu, where their famous mozzarella which is flown in weekly from 'back home' is listed alongside Napoli-style pizzas, both bianche (white sauce) and rosse (tomato sauce), pasta, risotto and a few seafood and meat mains. For starters, most of us opted for the bruschetta, which you can get with just tomato or with taleggio cheese. The latter was very good, with just enough served to whet the appetite. Perhaps, in hindsight, I shouldn't have 'double carbed', as the pizza I ordered for my main course was humongous. The Diavola comes with two varieties of salami and the thin base was slightly dense yet tasty. I couldn't finish it though as it unexpectedly filled me up, but the staff were more than happy to box up the remaining quarter for me to take home. FYI it tastes just as good the next day :) The wine list is wholly Italian (well, what would you expect) and we shared a good bottle though I've forgotten its name now so that's no help whatsoever... For simple, yet rich, Italian food, you'll probably find no better place in Manchester than here. Keep your gaze away from the large front windows and you'll feel like you're in Italia. Buon appetito!

Heard some great things about this restaurant so had to give it a try. The staff are great, quick and friendly and the manager works on the floor to schmooze with the customers and keep everything running like clockwork. Some features were a little too 'rough around the edges' for my taste - the place mats were torn squares of sugar paper, some looking a tad too DIY and messy, however on the whole there was a good atmosphere and authentic feel. I really liked the open kitchen so you could see the chefs at work. I was a little disappointed not to find prawns or calamari on the starters as Italian restaurants always do these best.. I opted for the burrata mozzarella, rocket and sundried tomatoes in the end - it was nice, but a little bland. For the main I went with the prawn, tomatoes and courgette pasta. It came as spaghetti - I'd have preferred pasta as I'm a bit of a messy eater (!!) and the sauce was heavier and richer than I expected - I was expecting a light tomato base. Having said all this, it was delicious and would certainly recommend! We were too full for dessert so admitted defeat, although the tiramisu looked awesome. The restaurant was pretty cold & we were sat just in front of the wine store so felt like we were a little in the way of waiters needing to go in and out. Mixed feelings about my experience, I think certainly worth another trip to be sure!

    Pizze Boscaiola

Delightful Italian restaurant on John Dalton Street in Manchester city centre. Well thought out with lots of seating and an open kitchen. There is an extensive menu of Italian food and drink as well as a daily specials board. It's great to have a choice of a few different Italian beers to choose from. They even have Italian soft drinks. The Aperol Spritz cocktails were very popular with our group. Skipping a starter we all went for a main course. It's just as well because the portions are nice and generous. I ordered a Pizze Boscaiola which comes with mushrooms, Italian sausage and mozzarella. Served on quite a large plate, my pizza was overhanging the edge of the plate! It was perfectly cooked. Nice thin base, not too crisp and not too soggy. The ingredients tasted wonderfully fresh. Unless you're absolutely famished, one of the pizzas would serve 2, perhaps with a side of something. Toilets are at the back of the restaurant, and there's only 1 for each sex which I didn't think adequate for the size of restaurant. If someone is taking their sweet time in there you can be in for a wait (as happened to me!). I'm looking forward to many more return trips to Salvis. It's one of those places where you could take someone who is visiting Manchester and be confident they'll love it.

    Gnocchi

A modern yet classic Italian that satisfies. The modern look of this place is very appealing but there's plenty of nods to the Italian heritage with old black and white photographs and classic Italian dishes. The open kitchen is a good idea and the seating is intimate but not too squeezed in. I got gnocchi with Italian pork sausage which I enjoyed. However I think I would order a pizza in the future as they were getting rave reviews and were massive. Boxes for leftover pizza were nearly inevitable. I had an Aperol spritz cocktail which I haven't had before but it definitely grew on me. I've walked past this place before without noticing it. I'm glad to be better informed now of where to get a proper Italian meal.

I went to this restaurant with group my Yelp friends. Great atmosfer. I order great cocktail drink aperol spritz. I very like sour and bitter teasty and this drink was perfect. I'm big lover of calzone pizza and unfortunately I don't fund this in menu. I ask head waiter and he told me don't worry we will make calzone pizza special for you.Wow I was so impressed. When my calzone arrived I was in heaven big, teasty with lots of items inside. I can full recommended this place.

Swordfish and smoked mozzarella pasta. Delicious
    Gayle P.

I have heard really good things about Salvi's Cucina and it certainly lived up to its excellent reputation. The menu is really extensive and there are some really interesting and authentic dishes to try. I like the restaurant's colourful décor and the black and white photos on the wall. The service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the swordfish and smoked mozzarella spaghetti which was beautifully presented and full of flavour. I can't believe I have left it so long to try here and I certainly won't be leaving it so long before I go back again.

    The pizza vanished.. coffee sublime!

I can take or leave olives but these were so moreishly flavoured. The menu consists of the usual Italian segments. Meat, fish , pizzas and pasta. The Meat and fish were really pricey so for starters I opted for a antipasti without the bread for and a seafood risotto for mains. My friends ordered a garlic bread to share and pate while I scoffed the antipasti which consisted of various parmaham, artichoke, prawn salad, cheese and chorizo. This was well presented and tasty..definitely manageable for one person! Next the risotto..again this was cooked beautifully and went well with a large glass of malbec. My friends ordered a simple carbornara which looked really rich. To finish we ended the meal with a liquere coffee. Overall this was a nice Italian..I haven't had much luck with the ones in Manchester! But yes quite pricey if you want something other than a pasta or pizza dish..and they do try charging you a optional service charge. Decor and ambiance is classic Italian with bold reds and "romantic. " I might be back after I've checked out the others .

The restaurant has more of an Italian feel to it than pseudo-Italian restaurants such as Felicini, and the staff were Italian too, which added to the air of authenticity. Prices are pretty standard - ranging from £6.50 for a margarita (but who orders a margarita?!) to £17.50 for the sea bass. We stuck to pizzas, which were delicious, but for the more wealthy and adventurous there is quite a varied menu including duck marinated in orange liqueur and several variations on the fillet steak. Vegetarian choices are not quite so exciting though there are still a couple of pizzas and pasta dishes to choose from. So, it's an authentic Italian restaurant with good reasonably priced fare. Why only 3 stars? Well, we were sitting not more than 20cm (I kid you not) from another table. I usually quite enjoy a good eavesdrop, but this was too close for comfort. It felt like we should've been sharing food and chatter with the couple next to us. Of course we're British and were too polite to complain as the restaurant was busy at the time, but this little predicament has encouraged me to head over to Don Giovanni's next time I'm on Oxford Street and in the mood for an Italian.

Being one of the first restaurants to reopen for dine-in, I decided to give this place a chance despite my bad experience at their sister restauraunt, Fumo on New Years Day 2020. The Reservations system is awful, due to the ongoing NHS Track and Trace programme, everywhere from pubs to restaurants must, of course, record their diners information with table bookings wherever possible however the online booking system wouldn't accept either one of my emails, with an off-brand Yahoo email or Protonmail, this meant I had to enter a fake email so I didn't receive any confirmation to my booking, which was concerning. The restauraunt is accessed by a couple of steps but there is a disabled entrance which appears to be unsafe as they place a ramp on a very narrow side-street where there is a curb, meaning it can be very difficult for a disabled person to safely use it. They should speak to Manchester City Council regarding extending the pavement or dropping the curb for customer safety. Big changes to the usual dining experience due to the pandemic included protective screens, similar to buses and supermarkets to separate tables and they used disposable menus. Unlike other restaurants, they still had table service without the need to order on an app. My first disappointment was, of course, the reservations system, and the next a violation of UK law which warranted a complaint to the licensing department at Manchester City Council. They refused to serve me tap water. Under UK law, any place which serves alcohol must also serve tap water. Instead, I had to buy a beverage which I didn't want, an orange juice advertised at fresh (which wasn't) for £3.60. This is serious on its' own as it is a breach of the business' alcohol license. The staff also seemed pretty rude, I was originally told they didn't have gluten-free pasta, only to be told they did (bad communication). They also seemed disgusted with the fact I'd ask for tap water (I don't like drinking with standard lunch meals on my own and prefer water), I also had to ask on three occasions to remove the service charge which is optional (It wasn't stated anywhere), I mean I ordered one course and a drink I didn't want for one person, a service charge is a little much? Interestingly, as soon as I sent an item back and denied the service charge at their sister restauraunt, the staff turned on me and turned "toxic" and it seemed to happen again, the staff member seemed openly angry when I denied the service charge, he sighed and tutted very loudly which made me feel uncomfortable. This is after he pretended not to hear me when I asked to remove it the first two times. The restauraunt was surprisingly busy, I don't think the staff were controlling alcohol intake either, this is supposed to be a classy and high-end restauraunt, with the clientele often including footballers, Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City was spotted here recently. Considering this, the fact they let customers openly walk around shouting very loudly made what was supposed to be a high-end experience, seemed cheap in everything but the price. My Gluten-Free Carbonara, unlike Fumo, came out rather quickly and was hot, however, the pasta just didn't taste fresh and the sauce was so bad, it tasted like dishwater and bleach combined. Gross. I've made much better fresh pasta myself which really shocks me considering the reputation this place has made, I'm not sure if they're trying to cut back on the experience due to revenue lost in the pandemic but that is no excuse for subpar food, rude staff and a breach of the law of the land. Multiple breaches here which means I no longer feel sorry for the business from breaches to customer safety, their alcohol license while serving subpar foods at premium costs. I have no intentions to return to any San Carlo location based on today, propped up by my bad experience at San Carlo Fumo earlier this year. 1*

Having been impressed by their Prestwich branch, where I most recently awarded it a three-star rating (previously a four!), I decided to try this out after stumbling across Croma on UberEATS. Originally the app didn't allow me to specify gluten free - this is something which needs addressing however after a quick call with the store, the manager seemed friendly to assist and make sure my order was gluten-free and I could still get my food. The restaurant its self is an impressive old building, it is up a couple of steps to get in - which could be a problem for some. I ordered a Gluten Free Americana pizza, the pizza its-self was quite good quality, the passata was a little runny at times but overall the pizza was a decent pizza, especially for gluten-free, much beating most other takeaways I could have had including Domino. The overall prize was good too for delivery, my pizza came delivered the short half a mile journey to the Hilton Manchester Deansgate for £11, the delivery free was set by UberEATS and cost around £2.50 in that total. The pricing for eating in, however, is pretty much average, with it being a small restaurant they lack the offers which bigger chains do, meaning it could work out slightly more expensive than rivals, including (but not limited to) Bella, Pizza Express and Zizzi. The menu selection is pretty good too, if you like pizzas but maybe not so much for everything else. is this somewhere I'd order from or visit again? Yes, and it does definitely warrant a solid three-star rating, issues with pricing when dining inside, selection other than pizza including starters and sides, and the access issues mean I sadly don't feel I can go any higher than a score which would match Croma's other branch I've visited in Pretswich, of three-stars.

I decided to call here to grab some food, having been impressed with their gluten-free selection of risottod and pastas online, however their gluten-free menu was a pretty lazy laminated list compared to their very good online system - It didn't even describe the dishes eg) what is inside the risotto, type of pasta and it even didn't include some menu dishes including the pumpkin risotto. They have step-free access through the main 1 St Peter's Square building but it is still rather difficult as they seem to block it off with barriers for some bizarre reason. The food is tapas style and I really struggle to comprehend the need for italian style tapas, especially considering the prices are only slightly cheaper than what you'd pay for a full sized dish, meaning if you do purchase a couple (which you have to do), it can work out pretty expensive. The food was pretty slow and when my gluten-free carbonara was served it was cold, it did taste rather nice apart from that however after sending it back for it to be reheated it appeared that they remade it to the point it was sloppy with too much sauce and just not as good: it was obviously rushed and the worst part: it wasn't much hotter? Still being hungry, I decided to order the lobster risotto which is where everything turned. I sent my food back as the risotto just wasnt good, the rice was dry while the tomato flavour was just disgusting, it tasted like vommit. The lobster was even poor quality. After complaining, the manager forced me to explain three times what was wrong with it (he didnt seem to care or pay attention), after I asked them to knock it off my bill he originally refused because 'I already had used a 50% off food.' I mean come on, how can you charge someone for food that poor, looking down on someone for using a promotion they offer to all customers with a reservation anyway? To make matters worse, they charged me for a spaghetti dish which would have cost £4 more than the price anyway which he also refused to change at first. It seemed from that point onwards I was looked down upon, no staff member even looked at me, thanked me or said goodbye and left me to struggle to get out of the store including the doors and barriers - they just didn't care. The atmosphere was toxic and with a manager causing this what hope does Fumo have? No one even apologised to me for my issues, nor did they even explain the unique restaurant concept.
