Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza - The Marina pizza .. no cheese but super delicious

I was FINALLY able to try Rudy's, even though the universe seemed to be against me the whole time…read morebut I finally got in. I've wanted to try this place for some time now, and every time I see people in Manchester asking about the best pizza places, Rudy's is always peoples number one choice. I made a point to want to go there on this visit, so I did everything I needed to do in the city, and then headed over for when it opened so I knew I would be able to get a table. A few people went in before me and the staff member was talking to people a little bit so I had a feeling something was wrong. When I got to the them, it turns out the pizza oven wasn't turning on so there would have been a minimum of 30 minute delay, I could be seated but they couldn't do any orders until the people in had sorted out the problem. I decided to go off and do something else (there's an amazing coffee shop around the corner so I went there for a bit) and then return when, hopefully, it was all fixed. I was gone around 40-45 minutes and when I walked down the street, alongside the extractor vents, I could smell pizza so knew it was all working. When I got in, there was a lot more people inside so it must have been fixed pretty quick and people were going for food. I got seated at the bar area, which was actually where a group of chefs were making the pizzas. I was in front of the one shaping the dough into the pizza shape. I felt a bit awkward looking at them so did it a bit slyly out the corner of my eye. They weren't looking at me so maybe it was as uncomfortable for them as me ... or maybe its just me being an awkward person at a new place. Looking at the menu there was a lot of choice. All of it seemed authentic Neapolitan pizza which Ive never had before so it was new to me. The menu was extensive and I decided to go for good old fashioned basic. HOWEVER, it turns out I ordered even more basic as I got the marinara rather than the margarita ... I did order that but didn't realise the marinara was without cheese. SO that was a shock at first but MY GOD it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and I could see them cooking it, perfect amount of garlic shavings and basil and the sauce and base was to die for. I can see why people say its the best, and there was a number of delivery or to take out orders as a staff member was constantly going out with piles of boxes. On the table where I was there was a tomato tin filled with the cutlery and napkins and a giant pizza cutter which I thought was pretty cool, so I was able to slice my own pizza into whatever sized pieces I wanted. Obviously I ate it how it should be eaten (in my opinion)... into slices and picked up and folded and it was great. I also got a jug of water before my order was taken which I love, and went for a simple blood orange san Pellegrino which came with ice and an orange slice. The pizza was around 9 inch I think ... a good size either way and all in all it only came to £10 which was a bargain. I will, for sure, return and maybe get some cheese on it this time ... and maybe mushrooms as the fungi pizza looked amazing (the guy who sat next to me ordered that) and when I can finally move up to Manchester, I shall order from there more often.

Don't be put off by appearances, this is one of the best pizza places in Manchester!…read more I like pizza - a lot - and this has to be one of the best pizza restaurants in Manchester. If you're driving you could easily blink and miss this tiny restaurant which at first glance appears to just be a take-away (which it also is). That's probably a good thing as this place is always packed from the moment it opens to the moment it closes - and for good reason. Pizzas come with thin bases and just the right amount of perfectly seasoned toppings - all made fresh on-site every day, along with other things like Italian potatoes, etc. A small sit-down restaurant in the back is warm and cozy, the perfect place if you actually want to chat with family and friends while eating - take your own bottles of wine though, they aren't licensed to sell alcohol. Can't recommend this place enough - been going there since I was a kid and went back again tonight and it's as good as ever. Really wish I hand't moved out of Manchester now!

The food was delicious, they also accommodated me wanting a half and half pizza with no fuss. They didn't mention a corkage fee and I didn't notice one on the bill, although another reviewer has said it's 10%. We paid just over £35 for burrata, two (huge) pizzas, and tiramisu.

Ok was the pizza and dips delicious? Yes of course. The reason for this bad review was the service…read morethough. We had a horrible service experience via Deliveroo this Thursday. We ordered on Deliveroo at 7:50 pm and the estimated delivery time was 30 - 60 minutes. As the hour approached (the latest the delivery should have been) the app said that the restaurant was still making our order. The app continued to extend the delivery time until we had been waiting two hours and fifteen and the restaurant was due to close. At this point the Deliveroo rider had been waiting at the restaurant for 15 minutes. We were growing increasingly anxious that we wouldn't get our food (that they would cancel the order) and then we wouldn't be able to get food because it was getting so late. The app had no way to contact the restaurant, but said to call the restaurant directly. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times and recieved both line busy messages and had my calls be hung up on. We called repeatedly and repeatedly got no answer. Finally, at 10:25 the rider got our pizza (2.5 hours after we had ordered), but we didn't get to eat until 10:40... A bit frustrating. Like I said, the food is good, but the lack of timeliness, the lack of communication... it was incredibly unprofessional and honestly anxiety inducing. At least have a message on your restaurant number. And if you're SO busy you can't do delivery... don't offer it as an option.

The staff will joke with you as if you were their friend, they'll make a fuss of you, compliment you and recommend EVERYTHING on the menu. No seriously, don't ask for a recommendation because they say everything - and you can see why when it arrives! You have to go for the full shebang here - Starter, Mains and Dessert. Don't you dare not order one of them! You'll miss out! I opted for Duck for the mains - I love Duck, it's my favourite meat to have for a dish - and it was exquisite. The sauce was definitely homemade, with a tangy orange finish presented with shavings of orange peel. I loved the attention to detail with the dishes even with the restaurant HEAVING. They don't lapse and they don't forget. Main dishes (meat) come with sides of roast potatoes, green beans, carrots and broccoli (chef's choice of seasoned vegetables). The roast spuds had soft centres and crispy coatings - delish! Roasting done right. For dessert (see pictures) I ordered a lemon sorbet accompanied by the sweetest toffee sauce drizzle in the shape of a flower! Again, presentation is clearly a key aspect here. Loved it. Being a Tuesday night and celebrating my Dad's birthday, you wouldn't really expect a lot of people at a restaurant for starters on a Tuesday night (wrong!) and you wouldn't expect every other table in there to be there for someones birthday right? WRONG! EVERY single table was there for a birthday. No joke! They crank up the birthday music every time! I'd meant to make a cake for this occasion but I hadn't had time. I asked the waitress if it was possible to wish him a happy birthday and add something special to his dessert. If you look at the picture I uploaded, they wrote Happy Birthday in sauce and added extra strawberries to his cake. As we were leaving, the staff practically dressed up - wrapping us up in our scarves and holding our coats as we put them on. They joked with us about bringing more people and which football club we supported and made everyone feel very wanted and valued. I do love good customer service and this place has it, under pressure, and doesn't cease to surprise.

The owner was very welcoming and gave us free garlic bread as starters which was needed as the green lipped mussels for starters took ages to arrive which they were well aware of and in the end they served us our antipasti without the mussels. Once the muscles arrived, they were big and worth waiting for. We all ordered different mains and they all came out together. The seafood dishes looked great with lobster on top but the steak looked a bit drab drowning in the sauce and one of the pasta dishes didn't look appealing but tasted great. The service was great all night and we had numerous wait staff looking after us and they were happy to take photos of us etc. When we ordered our dessert one of the wait staff was extremely proud to have made two of the dishes - the panna cotta and the creme caramel. I ordered the panna cotta, although the consistency was thicker to what I am used to it tasted delicious. Despite how busy the place was for a Sunday night we didn't see any celebs. I can understand why people keep coming back as the owner makes everyone feel welcome and you feel as if you know him as he wishes and hugs everyone as they leave. Ample parking over the road but you have to navigate through broken glass to get into the restaurant.
