I first discovered Bella Births back in 2016 through a family friend while expecting my first child. I gave birth to my first son in 2017, and it was the most empowering, beautiful experience I could have imagined. The level of care, attention, and support I received was simply unmatched. When I found out I was expecting again in 2024, there was absolutely no hesitation in my mind -- I knew Kathleen was the only practitioner I wanted by my side. We welcomed our second son in 2025, and this experience somehow managed to surpass even my already high expectations. Although it has been almost 3 years, I cannot in good conscience skip writing a review for my experience with Bella Births. I understand that all births happen differently and my having a C section was not her fault. However, I do have serious issues with the way she handled my transfer of care after I "risked out" of her birth center at 42 weeks. There was, in fact, no transfer of care at all. She said there was no way to schedule an appointment for her overseeing physician. I was instructed to go to an emergency room, on my own, and request an induction. She did not accompany me, just said "good luck" and left it at that. As a first time mom, my husband and I were left hanging with no support system whatsoever at a moment when we really needed all the help we could get. I hope nothing similar has happened to anyone under her care since my birth, and I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale to those in search of a midwife. This is in no way an attack on her overseeing physician. I've heard nothing but awesome things about him in the VBAC community. read more

We have had both our boys at Bella Births. We chose this natural route, because we did not care for unnecessary interventions. Prenatal care was exceptional, always very friendly and caring. Kathleen is available for advice also via text, which was very helpful for all kinds of non-urgent questions that were on the mind of a first-time mother. She also has provided me with good woman well-visits since my second birth. My first birth turned out to be a very good experience, but it took my firstborn quite a while to progress down (not uncommon for a first) until he finally was born. Kathleen and Lisa never lost their calm and kept just giving me very good input on how I could make him progress by moving or changing position. As I did what they told me, he slowly inched his way down and was eventually born after almost 5 hours of pushing. In a hospital I would have been encouraged to take drugs and might even have ended up with a c-section. Our second one was born in a wonderful and very short water birth, which had been my dream all along. Definitely hoping to have #3 at Bella Birth also! read more

I HIGHLY recommend this place. Kathleen, Lisa, Kara, and Stephanie are wonderful people! This was my first time giving birth to a baby, so naturally I was filled with many concerns and thoughts. I always wanted to try a natural water birth but wasn't sure of a place at the time so I went to an OBGYN. Bella Births was highly recommended by a couple of my church members and I am so glad I took their recommendation. Lisa and Kathleen were both so very informative. The office staff, Kara and Stephanie were so very welcoming and kind. Everyone answered every question both me and my husband had and eased every concern. I love the fact that they used natural supplements and methods prior to the actual birthing process. I didn't have to drink the yucky drink that every pregnant woman dread either!! ;-) I went into labor July 3rd and delivered on July 4th. Although I worked with both Lisa and Kathleen, Lisa delivered my baby girl along with her sweet birthing assistant. They were both so very patient with me and my husband despite it being a holiday and I was there majority of the day!!!! My baby was born at 5:25pm and I was home by 8ish with no pain...just soreness. They delayed the cutting of her cord. Both me and my husband were able to have skin to skin! I was able to breastfeed beautifully. I am currently 5weeks postpartum and I feel wonderful! My baby girl is doing great as well! You should definitely come here!!! I delivered all 3 of my kids with Bella Births! I had 1 birthing center birth and 2 home births. Kathleen delivered 2 of my babies and Lisa delivered 1 of my babies and assisted with my oldest son. I am a Registered Nurse and work at a hospital. I wanted to deliver my babies all natural and have midwives that are nurses with experience in the hospital. I wanted a midwife that uses evidence based practice. I wanted a midwife that would listen to my birth plan and believe in me that I could deliver my babies naturally. I wanted compassionate and knowledgeable midwives. Bella Births has been everything that I wanted for my prenatal care, labor and delivery. I am so fortunate that Bella Births staff truly cares about me and the health of my babies. When I had an concern, they fit me into their schedule the same day. When I had a question about my pregnancy at 9pm at night, they answered my question at 9pm at night. Being a nurse, I can tell you that these ladies deliver exceptional care. I loved the fact that I was in labor and I just called the midwife and they rushed to my house and helped me deliver healthy babies in the comfort of my home. I know I would have been medically induced if I had a baby in the hospital, which I did not want. I was able to safely go into labor naturally past 41 weeks. It is also amazing how Kathleen remembers all the details from my births with my son and daughter. It shows that she is truly passionate about her job as a midwife. Kara and Stephanie are also amazing ladies that help run the office. They are so friendly and willing to work with you and your schedule and finances. read more

Please BEWARE of this business of its unethical practices of office workers writing reviews! I was fooled by the positive reviews and decided to use Kathleen as a provider for the labor/delivery of my daughter. She did not believe I was in labor and repeatedly told me and my husband that I should not go to the birthing center and to go to sleep instead. I am still reaping the consequences of the trauma I experienced and afterwards the progression of events with feeding/breastfeeding. I want to accurately portray my experience with this business in hopes other woman will know and be informed when they make a decision. read more

I cannot say enough how much Kathleen and Lisa are great!! I feel like they're family. They gave us proper prenatal care and delivery. I ended up in the hospital because my labor being last for very long, Kathleen give proper transfer and stayed with me until things settled. The OBGYN who oversees her is a very good doctor. I say they work very close. I got very good service there as well. She also take care of me after birth (postpartum). I definitely go with her if I get pregnant again. I chose to go with Bella Births after having a horrible experience with the hospital setting with my first child. I really did not want to go through labor and delivery ever again. 8 months later I found that I was pregnant again, despite birth control. I then decided that I needed to have a completely different experience. Kathleen instantly put my mind at ease and helped me understand my body's process. When the day came- I had an amazing experience. One that I will never forget! My daughter was born into a comfortable and loving place with supportive and compassionate staff every step if the way. Had an amazing birth with the Bella Births team this past March! This was my second baby, and my second birth center experience, I gave birth to my first with a different center and didn't get the care I deserved there. Bella Births was such a different experience! First, they have a dedicated receptionist and office manager who were very clear about the finances and insurance and scheduling appointments. I did not have to file or do any insurance paperwork myself, they handled all of it and everything was clear and in writing up front. The receptionist would send appointment t reminders, and also send a text heads up if there was a birth going on and we needed to expect delays. Lisa and Kathleen have different personalities but both supported and respected my choices regarding the birth and did not question or try to "convince" me to change my mind about any of the decisions. They gave informed advice, but never bullied me into doing something I wasn't comfortable with. I had equal time/appointments with both of them so I was comfortable with either one being at my birth. The day of the birth, Kathleen answered the phone promptly when I called at 5:30 am and we were met at the birth center (they welcomed my whole family, including our 2 year old), Debbie was an AMAZING calming and reassuring presence and Kathleen was so present and knowledgeable. It was clear to me that they had read my birth plan and were following my cues during labor. I gave birth in the water and was supported by both Kathleen and Debbie as well as my husband the entire time. I had a healthy 9 pound 11 oz baby with no tearing! They gave us time to eat and I took a bath, and had a nap, and we were not rushed out the door. When we were ready to leave, Debbie gave my husband and I clear instructions for after birth and was so kind helping me get cleaned up and dressed and into the car, I will always remember how incredible her support was. After the birth, we were able to text the midwives with questions, we had a FaceTime check-in (baby was born the day before pandemic was announced), and they did a home visit for the 2 day appointment. Paperwork was filed promptly for the social security card and we got it in the mail right away, and the office staff handled paperwork for getting my maternity leave started. We got a list of recommendations for LC's and pediatricians, which was super helpful since baby had a tongue tie. I would absolutely recommend this place. Only downside is that appointments sometimes are late, but that's because they don't rush you and spend time answering all your questions. read more

I was so blessed to find Bella Births! I love Kathleen and Lisa and her staff. I always feel so calm when I am around them. We chose Bella Births for our last 2 births. While we needed up with a c-section with our first birth, I can assure you that Kathleen does not take risks. When it was apparent I needed the hospital we went!!! You can feel confident that if anything doesn't go as planned she will make sure you get the care you need. We successfully V-bac'ed 3 years later and had an amazing experience. I continue to see her for all my well woman needs now that I am no longer having babies. I am so comfortable with her that unless I absolutely have too, I am not going anywhere else. I am so grateful for Anna Catron. After 3 hospital births, I was tired of being pushed around and manipulated by doctors and hospital staff. I refused to participate in their assembly line style birth practices, so I researched alternative birth options and decided to have my 4th child at home. At first my husband and I were both a little apprehensive, but Anna not only answered my questions directly and honestly, she provided her expertise and encouraged me to use my intuition and instincts to make informed decisions about my birth that I felt safe and comfortable with. The entire Bella Births staff is absolutely amazing in so many ways! I don't know if there are enough words to say how wonderful of a midwife Kathleen is! I had a terrible and very traumatic first birth in a hospital but my experience with Bella Births completely redeemed the pregnancy and birth experience with our second child. Beginning with the ease of scheduling appointments, short office wait time, and being knowledgable about health insurance Kara and Stephanie are wonderful! They are quick, efficient, and give thorough information regarding insurance. They have their stuff together and are always prompt in getting answers to you. (I actually started out my 2nd pregnancy at a different birth center and it was very frustrating because they never understood or had a handle on the insurance portion, so I was constantly asking questions and never getting answers.) Not the case at Bella! At every prenatal appointment my midwife Kathleen was very caring, concerned, and genuinely interested in how I was doing and what she could do to help me through the pregnancy. She always educated me on how to have a healthy pregnancy and the best ways to prepare for the labor and delivery of our daughter. She always let me know before she did something so there were never any surprises and she always followed through on things she said she would do. Through the entire birth process Kathleen was responsive and readily available (even in the wee hours of the morning). Through the delivery she was calm, collected, focused, and very intentional about the words she used to encourage me through the contractions and pushing. She knew exactly what to say to motivate me to keep going in the natural birth process and got our baby out safe and healthy. Both she and Lisa (another fantastic midwife) have been wonderful in my post-partum care also- Involved and ready to answer any questions i have. They're both amazing to work with and I will definitely, without any hesitation have all of my prenatal care and birth all of our future children at Bella Births!!! I need to share my experience so that other moms don't go through what I went through. This year I was pregnant with my first child and I chose to use a midwife instead of an OB. I picked Bella Births in McKinney because the staff was friendly and I wanted a more natural experience. Even though I have Blue Cross Blue Shield which is 100% in network with them they told me I needed to pay $4200 upfront because that is the fee and they would bill my insurance company later. Because I trusted them, I didn't think much of it. At 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant I began to hemorrhage after drinking two rounds of a drink they gave me called Start Up. (Research that before ever using) I first called Kathleen who told me I may have just lost my mucus plug and not to worry. About twelve hours later at 2:30 am when I had lost a lot of blood I called Kathleen again and she told me to call Lisa because she was on call. Lisa met us at the birthing center and she told me that the blood was okay, I was not in labor and to go home and take Benadryl so that I could sleep. My husband and I were extremely uncomfortable with this so we chose to go against their advice and head to Medical City McKinney. When I got there I was immediately rushed to labor and delivery because I had lost a very large amount of blood. They quickly started checking my vitals and both my unborn daughter and I were extremely unstable. They called the birthing center to ask for my medical records to which they were told they couldn't give them however even though Kathleen does not have privileges at that hospital she headed there in scrubs. By the time she got there it was becoming extremely apparent that I needed an emergency C Section. We did not need her there and I clearly should have been advised the day before to head to the hospital. Thankfully an amazing OBGYN happened to be on call and took me on as a patient and literally saved both my daughters life and mine. There were clear indications that I needed to be a c section patient and they were ignored by the midwifes and had I taken myself to the hospital any later it would have been fatal. After the birth I was so thankful to have a healthy baby that I was going to just forget what happened with the midwife and just never make that decision again. Then I got a call from the hospital billing department. I had been told from Bella that they were taking my $4200 ($1800 of that is a delivery fee) and they would be filing with my insurance. They did not. We called them because obviously the delivery fee needed to be refunded. They not only told me they didn't want to refund me but that they wanted to bill me for Kathleen coming to the hospital! We didn't ask her to come to the hospital not that it would even matter she has no privileges there. The hospital billed my insurance so I owed my max out of pocket to them and my deductible was met. Then Bella billed my insurance for a fraction of the money they took from me. So even though my deductible/ max out of pocket is $3750 for the year, I have payed almost double that. With the help of Blue Cross we emailed Bella Births an itemized break down of how much they owe us back. They refunded a portion of the actual birthing fee (ironically they had nothing to do with the birth) but they have failed to make right any of the rest of it. I'm posting this for a few reasons. I want to encourage moms that anytime they feel they have been given bad medical advice to follow their gut and seek a second opinion. It literally saved my life and my daughters. Also do not pay cash up front for anything when you have health insurance. I should have never done this because it has become a nightmare. read more

As a doula and a student midwife I was extremely picky about who I wanted to handle my personal prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. I originally sought care with an OB in the Rockwall area, but quickly saw signs that their practice wasn't a good fit for me. My insurance didn't leave me with many options, but thankfully I had heard good things about Bella Births, so I booked a tour with them at approximately 15 weeks. The center is gorgeous, and Kathleen and Lisa are both amazing midwives. The care I received was exactly what I was looking for. They took time to address all of my concerns, booked me appointments just to ease my mind, helped mitigate with my anxiety ridden quirks, and treated me with genuine respect throughout the entire process. My delivery went as smoothly as possible, and the minor hiccups that followed were handled with professional ease.
