Clarendon Hotel
The 1st visit was back in May 2019. Due to no fault of my own I didn't read the pay policy section…read morein much detail and when arrived was asked for payment up front. Once paid, was handed the keys but had to find the room on my own which isn't very friendly, the receptionist gave very basic instructions but didn't mention it was up three flight of stairs at the top of the hotel. Going back to the reception, this was not clear as stood in the doorway of the bar to confirm reservation. Not professional at all, spoke quietly my private details so customers at the bar didn't overhear. Once entering the room, came to a nice and big airy family room. All decor was standard and you could tell that it had been previously touched with a lick of paint. Unfortunately not all furniture was safe to sit in as a chair in the lounge area had a wobbly leg and immediately broke off when sat off. This is reported to the reception straight away as the room was classed as a family room. Imagine a child sitting in the chair then falling over, it would of been more an incident hopefully nothing major. I must mention that there was a fridge in the room and only small which isn't great as they don't serve breakfast only a few complimentary items above. The coffee machine had no instructions and was rather complex so those with no knowledge of one would of been parched. My stay was for two nights and due to budget it would of been worth staying at an accommodation that offered bed and breakfast. A night or two would be perfect as its in the centre of all amusements, shops, restaurants and the big plus that hasn't had a mention yet is the sea view. You couldn't get nearer other than be in the sea itself with the pier which is just for a pleasant walk along on a dry day. There is a restaurant at the end but didn't stay open until late. I could go on about the dangers of the pier but this review is about the hotel. This hotel offers a variety of different feature rooms, I would recommend you to view the rooms before booking. Other than that its a standard and calm place to stay.

Be sure to bring the following items: a telephone (the room did not have any in case of any room emergency); an air conditioner or fan (we had the unfortunate luck to come on one of the hottest days in years. Our room was well over 90 degrees with only one small window opening); bug spray (the window had no screen, so the room filled with small flying insects); extra towels, and your own internet (spotty connection at best).
