I wanted to see this store since I shop their groceries weekly at the Hometown Farmers Market. The…read morefamily who works there talked up the store and told me they have refrigerated, freezer, and deli items. Maybe my expectations were too high? The aisles are so narrow you cannot get down them if there is another shopper. If the staff is stocking shelves- you're not getting down the aisle either. Also, I only saw shopping baskets- no carts. The line for the register backs up so far you can't really shop the bread/candy aisle unless you're waiting in line. It is much of the same as Hometown Market. I am not likely to go back because it isn't close to where I live. I am glad I got to go and I think this grocery store is a Godsend to the locals. The buys are great - but watch the expiration dates. Olive oil, pet items, candy, coffee, snack bars, paper plates, desserts in the fridge section, eggs and butter sometimes too. The stock is changing always so you may not see the same things twice- so if you see it, and you want it- then buy it!

The owner Latosha, her staff and her family were all so inviting. Mayor Williams, her Staff & Commissioner Hartwick all came by for the ribbon cutting and to welcome this new business to the Midtown area. It was also nice seeing all the locals coming in to try this new restaurant and support their local business. For husband, and myself, I got the catfish platter, mac n' cheese, sweet potatoes, potato salad, shrimp & crab pasta salad and a piece of the carrot cake togo. The platters also came with a cornbread muffin. Everything was fantastic! The food was fresh, the restaurant was clean, the people preparing the food all wore gloves and made sure not to touch anything except what they were preparing. There was a separate person that handled the register and order taking. If you've read any of my other reviews then you know that I do not play when it comes to food safety, cleanliness and hospitality. After 40 years in the service industry, I look for certain things and Aunt HOCKER's Fish Fry did not disappoint. So when I tell you that I will definitely be making a trip into the city more often, to get food here. That says a lot. 5

I've only tried their Lamb Gyro on Pita Bread, but that alone is enough for me to write a 4 star review for now. Great Value: $5 for chicken gyro and $6 for lamb or beef gyro, tax included. Of course a low price tag alone is not a sufficient gauge of value. They absolutely jam-pack the protein of your choice into each pita bread. One gyro is enough to stuff your face! Great Taste: I am salivating as I look at the picture I took and reminisce the experience. The lamb with white and spicy sauces was delicious and addicting. The pita bread is the thick, warm, springy kind I crave for in a gyro, and they nailed it. Comparisons: Based on my experiences around Harrisburg thus far: The gyro from Phyllo is nice, but the serving is way too small; 2nd Street Shawarma isn't bad but they serve gyros on wraps instead of springy pitas. I've yet to find and try Gyro Express. So far my vote goes to New York Gyro. UPDATE: After trying out Gyro Express, I am now crowning New York Gyros the king of gyros in the Harrisburg area. Up one star to 5 :)

Was so happy to bite into this gyro and taste all the flavors dancing in my palate, the lettuce, tomatoes and parsley were fresh. BUT, it didn't taste Greek. The tzatziki sauce had too much of mayonnaise flavor. Here I missed that Greek flavor that makes the gyro when you get that yogurt, oregano and mint flavors. I also love when gyros have a few crumbles of feta cheese over the meat but I didn't get that in this wrap either. This location was so easy to find but I'm not familiar with the one way streets so I had to loop around a few times to find that one way street to get into right behind the truck. The service was so quick I didn't need to feed the meter! He did a great job of wrapping the gyros in a way that was not messy to eat. I did not eat all three but took home to relatives to try and they said it was delicious. One also had the same comment that I had about the tzatziki sauce lacking that yogurt, oregano mint flavor. Next time I'll try the chicken gyro and a platter. Look for my next review!
