If Yelp allowed half stars I would give this place about a three and a half. It's a charming local butcher shop that is located close to, but not in, downtown Annville, meaning that you can bypass all the traffic congestion happening in the downtown and plus Laudermilch has its own nice big parking lot. The staff are all extremely nice people, including to folks like me who just wander in off the street and are not locals or regular customers. While the store hours are not really geared to working people, they still have better hours than many of the farm markets or Amish markets that are only open for limited times on certain days of the week and tend to be mobbed. They have great bacon and sausage, lots of types of each. I'm sure the other meats are good too but the local bacon and sausage are what catch my eye. They also have some good candy and bakery selections.
Laudermilch's also gets a lot of media coverage each year for their sale of traditional fasnachts just before Lent. The fasnachts are supposed to be more traditionally made here than a lot of the other places. I haven't had a chance to try them yet because, although I pre-ordered a dozen this year, they had some technical problem that kept them from fulfilling at least my pre-order. I don't know how many others this affected since while they were telling me I wasn't getting my order, I could see a bunch of other people's orders sitting on the shelf waiting for pickup. Several other people I know didn't pre-order but just walked in hoping to get some after seeing all the media coverage, and they didn't get any either. If the business is going to be featured in media all over central PA for fasnachts, it needs to plan better for the customers that the coverage will bring. The manager did apologize to me for not having my pre-order and gave me a gift certificate, which I used to get some other good stuff that was in stock, but I'd be careful about pre-ordering anything from here again and definitely call them to make sure they actually fulfilled my order before I show up. read more
