    Clerk at Simpsonville, SC ladies department was very RUDE this morning. Did not greet me. Seemed not concerned.

    I really like Belk's. They have a laid-back Southern feel. Hey also some really great brands for clothing. Good service.

    Very disappointed after attempting to return an item ($3.49) which was defective.I presented the…read moreitem along with my receipt to the clerk at the front desk, where she called over the counter to someone that she had a return. After being questioned by the manager as to whether the item was broken when I purchased it, I told him I got it home, opened it, and it pulled apart. Was told I had an attitude. Also that he had the right to question me...which is a correct statement. However, the accusatory tone he had over a small return was overkill. I asked if he were going to proceed with my return, and he responded no...pushing the item toward me on the counter. I flicked it back toward him and stated that I wouldn't return to that store, and he responded, good. I asked for, and was give his name, the owner's name and telephone number, and again told I had an attitude. Having been in retail for 44 years, I was taught early on in my career that returns are just as, if not more important than purchases, and should be treated with at least the same amount of respect. That makes for a happy customer who will eventually purchase far more than the amount of the return...in this case $3.49. I did not call the owner and threw his name and number away. The amount of the purchase and the item were not worth the trouble nor the stress. This post is to tell owners and their staff that everyone who enters their place of business is an invited guest, and the benefit the owners and staff receive is the successful operation of their business, the resulting profits, and the jobs of all of the staff involved in that operation. All of that is dependent upon their invited guests and the way the employees threat them in order to encourage purchases. The treatment I received was far harsher than needed, and the eventual outcome disappointing. I will not return to that store where I have been a very long-time customer. The same items are available elsewhere, and hopefully any needed return will be graciously accepted or refused in a polite and proper manner.
