Great store! A lot of things have changed since Covid but the customer service is amazing!

On September 7th, 2024, around 11:00 am my mom made a visit to the Belk store located in Lenoir, N.C. to get a birthday gift. Today at checkout my mom was asked in front of other customers by Pam if she had enough ono her card to pay for the transaction which was incredibly unprofessional and embarrassing. My mom of course has never had an issue with her payments and answered Pam that indeed she did have enough. The unfortunate part about this situation is that my mom's experience with Pam in the past was never a bad one, but today, Pam made my mom feel extremely uncomfortable in front of another customer which is not acceptable. Not only was this question asked to my mom if she had enough money to cover on the card, but she asked her three different times. Prior to this experience, Pam has always taken my mom's payment without any questions. My mom did speak to the Manager on Duty, a gentleman about this situation. His name is Garret Milsap. My mom stated he was nice and told my mom that nobody should be asking if the customer has enough on the card. My mom told him she would like an apology from Pam, and he promised my mom he would get with Pam and have a conversation about this situation because she should not have asked my mom if she had enough funds on her card, let alone in front of another customer. It is obvious that some employees need to be trained on Customer Service skills as well as what to ask and what not to ask. I called to the store to try and speak to the Manager three different times, and I got transferred to voicemail. I was hoping to speak with Garret about this further but was not successful in doing so. It is concerning that each time I called to speak with him, he was not available to talk. Karen assisted me with the call and was extremely friendly. When I asked for the corporate number, she told me they didn't have one to give and asked her co-worker and they gave me the 1-800-669-6550 number which is the number for credits only. I asked how this could help me when I am trying to reach someone for a complaint? She then said I would need to speak with Garret whom I could not get a hold of. This is also not acceptable. I have worked in Customer Service/Management for 20 plus years and this situation is extremely concerning. Pam in the makeup department needs to be removed from helping customers until she knows the correct questions to ask her customers. Thank you. read more

I stopped by this store on August 1, 2019 to return some Birkenstock sandals that I had ordered from Belk.com. I had ordered the narrow size by mistake, and the Belk in Boone did not stock the regular width. The young male salesclerk suggested I go up a size. That might fix the issue with the width, but then the length of the shoe becomes the issue. I got a refund. I also stopped by the bra department while I was at Belk to take advantage of a buy one/get one free sale. The store had only one bra in the size and style that I wanted. I asked an older sales lady if she would search behind me to see if I had perhaps missed similar bras. She said she wasn't really good at finding bras and asked another older sales lady to help. The second person did look but could not find a second bra in the style and size that I wanted. As a second bra was unavailable, I asked if I might purchase the one that I had found for half price. She said that I could not, and I asked to speak to a manager. The sales lady called a a manager and explained the situation. The manager told her to make the sale. Apparently the sales lady did not understand the concept of math. She made the sale but did so begrudgingly. It's always hard to track down a salesperson to wait on you at this Belk location, but when I do, I expect better customer service than I received today. read more

June 24 went to check what was new and see the sales . I usually don't like shopping this store due to customer service and being asked over ten times if I have a belk card while simply looking at an item . I picked out an outfit for my daughter and went to check out , I am not joking when I say the lady behind the counter by the women's area was clipping her nails and filing them with a mask on during COVID and had only stopped when she notice I was ready to check out . The lady asked me four times if I had a card after the first time I politely told her no I am not interested and didn't even think my daughter could fit the item and she stopped me before I could finish and say well you need to think about Belk card it could save you today, again no thank you . Ok fine the total is . Needless to say I returned the item which for little girl thirty dollars was a lot and got it from T.J.Maxx for much less . I won't step foot in another belk . Love the selection of clothes here but they are limited in quantities. Nice small town feel to this store.
