I know I'm getting older because why am I at the department store's Clinique counter? Well, I'll tell you why. I don't have to deal with the sticky teens in Sephora, the unattentive staff at Ulta, and I get to explore lots of different, quiet nooks of shopping. I got my Clinique stuff, they were having a good deal and a good gift with purchase situation, definitely worth checking out. The women at the counter were very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable about the products. Before YouTube, TikTok, and online tutorials, women learned to do makeup from the ladies at the makeup counters! It does feel special and very no-judgement. I like it there, very different vibe from Sephora. My mom shopped swimsuits while I went to go check on the Fiesta Ware stock. I've inherited the brightly-colored plates of my childhood and love them to pieces. Belk had an ok selection of 4-6 Fiesta colors. Unfortunately, a lot of my bowls and plates seem to be old models. I'd like to add to my collection, but struggling to find the old shapes! This is how they get you, I guess. I'll have to bite the bullet on some rounder bowls. Macy's also stocks Fiesta, I haven't been there to check it out. Belk is really the only department store left at The Summit! Thankfully, it's a good one! read more

Belk will always be that department store that you can find something for any occasion. I was making a return to another store and decided to stop in for a quick browse of the shoe department. In reference to the Mac Cosmetics counter at Belk, Riverchase Galleria- I purchased a Pro Brow Definer, and within a couple of weeks, it had broken. I figured it would be easy enough to get a replacement, but when trying to do so, the sales rep basically said, "yeah, they can use up pretty quickly, especially if you use them everyday." I explained that I don't use it everyday, and I'm pretty sure it had to have broken, as it had only been two weeks. She basically looked as if to say, "oh well", and refused to replace it. I used to be a more frequent Mac Cosmetics shopper, and I recall a convenient return or exchange policy, ESPECIALLY in the case of a faulty product. Between the product issue, and the poor customer service, I'm done! There are plenty other products, and retailers, thankfully. read more

This place is in The Summit shopping center. Nice prices when you can catch them on sale. I found the reason why they call B-ham " the magic city". Folks were well mannered (it's the South). Customer service was great. Elevator pop music was playing in the store. Then all of a sudden, the Cha-Cha Slide came on the radio. Employees, customers stopped what they were doing and started dancing. Lol young and old. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. I thought I was missing out on a party so I joined in. If you're looking for some low priced Christmas apparel or an ugly Christmas sweater, this is the place to come!! Belk is a department store with nice clothes that are moderate-high priced. It can be considered to be on a Macy's level but the down south version. Customer service was a 10 out of 10! As we walked through the store we were greeted and helped each step of the way. The store itself was neat and clean, except the bathroom! The bathroom was A MESS! The toilets and stalls were not clean, the soap dispenser barely dispensed soap and the smell was horrible. Being an out of towner, I didn't expect that from a store like this which is, unfortunately why they got 3 stars. I came to this Belk solely to look for a new pair of Crown and Ivy jeans. Sadly, I found none that I just loved but there were several options available that were already Black Friday priced. I really like this location because there is just so much more variety and so many different brand names to pick from. However, I did feel like this store was a tad bit on the crowded side. I mean , stuff was everywhere but it was arranged nicely. The associate that helped me was very warm and engaged. Even those associates I saw in passing were courtesy and served with a smile. These types of jobs are not easy especially around the holidays, so I really appreciate the service I received on my visit here. read more

Macy's used to be my go to department store, but here lately Belk has been the place I have to go to now. It's main advantage at the Summit is that it's competition is Saks Fifth Avenue. I've only ever bought one thing at Saks while most of the time I don't even bother going in there. I've noticed this Belk probably has the best deals. I almost always find what I need here. On my last visit, I bought two tops here, one being a DKNY top that I've already worn twice. I've only had it four days....haha. read more

I wish this was the Belk located near my home because the service is better and this store seems to have a better selection. Because the Belk near me always has issues when I use the order online, pickup in store feature, I decided to try picking up from this location instead. The experience was so different. First, I didn't have to hunt down a worker to ask who could get my items from the back. Their online pickup area had an employee behind the counter. Additionally, I received exactly what up ordered and it didn't take a long time for them to bring it out. While I was there, I looked through there sale priced shoes and it was easy to find my size. The display were more organized than what I usually encounter at the Belk I normally go to. This is a decent Belk. I prefer this one to the one at the Galleria. I just feel like this one has a lot more to offer and frankly, is a lot cleaner. This store has a huge Lily Pulitzer section. I was surprised given that there is a Lily store in the Summit. I was surprised to see so many things discounted too. I will definitely be coming here for Lily deals in the future. All I wanted to do was exchange them but the manager Holly said that they wouldn't allow that. I will never ever do business with Belks again. I had the worse experience today at the Belk Salon. The price for the service was $250. You would expect a good hair cut and a color. The color was good. But the hair cut was unreal. It took three stylists (if you could call them that) to try to fix the worse haircut ever. What made the experience even more unreal is when I asked for the manager Nicole to fix it. She never showed and I needed to leave. They had my card info. Instead, Nicole calls me a threatens me with calling the authorities. Never once did she ask me why I was dissatisfied with the service. I paid the full bill because it was not about the money for me. It was more about the lack of experience of the salon and its staff. No experience in cutting hair and in customer service. I visited this location a few weeks back and it is very poorly kept. They don't seem to have much of the latest stock and what they do have seems to be pretty dated and the worst picks from a brand. The staff was also extremely rude and no one offered to help me at all. I'm honestly surprised to see this from the Summit as most places here are well kept, except this location. Overall, the extremely rude service and horrible stock makes this a place to avoid. Everything is thrown around and not organized well. Furthermore, no one is ever at the changing rooms, so annoying. So the overall rating was elevated because at the end of the day staff did go above and beyond to be accommodating and make the shopping experience good. First, as far as Belk goes, this one is located at the Summit which offers tons of shopping options. Most of which are really great locations. They can all be a little on the high side of the pricing scale, but make up for it with service, cleanliness and selection. This store just kind of misses the mark. It is exceptionally crowded. Meaning as you try to navigate through the store and stray from main aisle ways you are having to try to squeeze between displays. This location also just doesn't seem to have the same level of cleanliness as other Belk locations or stores at the Summit. Second, the selection. Not nearly as good as other locations, such as the one at the Galleria. It gets the job done in a pinch but don't be surprised if they don't have what you are after. Lastly, the staff. When I was checking out they asked if I was doing the preorder. They didn't explain and I didn't ask (so kind of my fault) that I didn't realize I was going to have to come back another day to pick up items that I already had in my hand (not what I think of when I think pre-order). When I finished paying and they didn't let me take my stuff it dawned on both of us we weren't on the same page as what pre-order was. She did go out of her way to get a manager to try and get approval to take my stuff with me that day and ultimately they worked it out at the same pricing level. If it wasn't for the staff and their willingness to be accommodating and friendly for the misunderstanding I would probably rate this store with a 2 star review, especially when comparing to other Belk locations. If you are in the area and want to stop in I wouldn't discourage it, however I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here. read more

I would give the Belk at the Summit zero stars if I could. Most of the dressing rooms are closed, you have to stand in line forever the grumpiest old woman ever working the one that's open, people are standing in line 10 deep to check out at the two registers open, and the quality of their products are worse than Walmart these days. In fact, one of the sales associates yelled across the sales floor' "Do you feel like you're at Walmart?" The entire line agreed with her. The lack of customer service was being discussed all over the store. This is supposed to be one of the nicest Belks in the area, but it feels like you're shopping at a thrift store. I was pleasantly surprised when I went shopping at Belks on Dec. 31, 2019. They were slammed but I was still able to get help that's was until I got to the shoe department. I think they only had 2 people working on the floor. There were so many people trying to buy shoes, the line to the cash register was so, so long. It was horrible. My wife asked the one and only person in the shoe department at Belk's at the Summit. He brought out two pairs, neither the size she requested, threw them in a chair, and said, "We don't have that size." When she decided to buy them, anyway, he had her dig for an old Belk credit card to the the discount that was posted all over the department, then told her, "That discount is only for new customer," and she had to pay full, undiscounted price. Belk, Belk, Belk! Please get some consistency between your stores! I hit up 3 Belk stores in one day (I know how to shop) and each one had different "policies" on their sales and the sales staff fell along a wide continuum of "attitude" from store to store. This Belk, in the (truly) most luxurious shopping center in all of Alabama, is by far the best, the friendliest, and has the widest selection of designer duds a California "Big City" girl like myself could want. Juicy sweats? Check! Betsey Johnson nighties? Check! Trina Turk dresses? Check! High end shoe lines? Check! Wacoal and Cosabella? Check! Rock and Republic, Seven, and Paper Denim? Check! Sure, these are more 2008 but I won't complain when you're hard pressed to find even an A. Byer top in most of the other department stores in Alabama, Saks being the exception. The real reason for 5 stars? Lacy Wacoal skivvies and bras marked down 90% from their original price, my beloved (and reserved solely for weekends) Chuck Taylors in 4 colors on sale for $10 each, 2 Free People dresses, normally $150 each, for a mere $15 a pop. Granted, they're having huge sales around the holidays, and granted, I wear the tiniest bras in the history of boobs, and granted, I may be the only person besides Tinna H who likes pink Converse sneakers, but still...I saved about $450 when all was said and done... Now if only I could get around to shopping for other people! read more

We have been to this location of Belk many a time. The store is generally in decent condition and the sales staff is friendly, though the aisles and departments always seem hard to navigate. I think they try to squeeze the same amount of merchandise into this store as they have at the Galleria store, and I don't think it's as big. I have had to, on several occasions, search tirelessly for a cashier. The men's department is where we typically go to get my son pants, and as much stock as they have out, it's been near impossible to find his size. Prices are a little high, but it's not a surprise, as I think most people know what to expect from Belk. They do allow pets inside, which for us is a plus, though I am sure other patrons are not as impressed. read more

I was hoping to experience a little southern hospitality but this place sucked a big one! Everyone working here seemed bored and uninterested! I shopped in the juniors department, everything in the fitting rooms was messy and disorganized. I found a dress I liked on sale and wanted to buy it, but NO ONE WAS THERE! let me buy stuff people! The I walked over to the lingerie dept where a woman was there, but unfortunately for me there was some grandmother buying her granddaughter $700 worth of underwear and hooded sweatshirts in line in front of me. I kid you not, seven HUNDRED dollars was her total. The cashier moved slower than molasses, she didn't give a crap that I waited for 15min. Then, I had to use the restroom, they had no signs, all I could find after an extensive search was this scary little weird family bathroom in the corner next to the XXL women's panties. I visited the Mac counter in Belk at the Summit store today. I was pleasantly surprised at the OUTSTANDING level of service that I received from the associate by the name of Tracy. Not only was she courteous and personable but she was EXTREMELY patient as I had her to try (what seems like) thousands different lip and makeup options. She did a super job going back and forth between myself and the other customers who needed assistance. Most times when visit a Mac counter it seems as if the associate is more concerned with selling me as many products as possible. What I appreciated the most about Tracy is that she gave me options on what I needed and what I didn't need.... that meant more to me than anything. Thank you Tracy at the Summit Mac Counter of Belk. I tried to purchase a cosmetic, and since customers can't swatch it due to COVID restriction, I politely asked the sales rep if she would mind putting a swatch of the makeup on a tissue (which is what Sephora & Mac does for customers), to which she refused. So then I told her I'll buy the product because I can return it if the color is wrong. The rep said once I open it, I'm stuck w/ it, no returns. This person also suggested that I go to the Mac Cosmetics Store to get what I needed. Well, since I recently bought and exchanged an eyeliner at Belk, I knew this was not true. This was confirmed by Belk's manager. The sales rep was unfriendly and stared me down while I was looking (not touching) at the eyeshadows, she made me feel like I was putting her out by having to assist me. I just left the store empty handed and dismayed by the awful customer service. I empathize w/ all businesses that are having to deal w/ having less employees available to work and the myriad of COVID restrictions that employees must enforce to ensure all safety standards are being met, but that does not give an employee the right to take out their frustration on a customer who just wants to purchase an item. read more
