Heading to Eschol Park House for a wedding reception I didn't know what to expect…read more To be honest the princess in me was a little judgemental due to the location and impression I was given, well how wrong I was, this was a beautiful location for a wedding, classy, pretty and stylish with a heritage feel. It is a heritage listed house, the wedding we attended was one of 2 on the day, with the ceremony in the grounds. I know the wedding we attended was planned on a tight budget, but you would never have known that. It really was a beautiful day, the food was lovely, salmon steak with avocado, dill and capers as an entree, a beautiful main of chicken and sweet potato mash or lamb shanks and a dessert platter with a trio of little dessert tasters. I was devastated with this because it wasn't one hair but two long black hairs! I honestly think that the meat had dropped on the floor and the chef picked it up and slopped it back on my plate because the chefs were wearing hair nets! The bar staff and gaming room staff also are always friendly and happy to help you out. The atmosphere there is great with several dining areas that cater for small groups or large groups and families as well with 2 separate play areas. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It seems like this is a pretty wealthy club, but it's scary to wonder about how much of their wealth comes from poker machines. I can see the immense value of this club for its constituents, I just wish it wasn't also at their expense. As well as having a pokies area that feels like it's the size of the MCG, they also have a pokies cage. Basically this is an "outdoor" area that is caged in with metal, so you can sit outside and smoke while you gamble on the pokies. It basically looks like a jail full of pokies. Having a cage means that no one has to get up and leave the pokies to have a ciggie break. Plenty of people playing them, too, with ciggies and schooners, even at 10.30am. It's the saddest thing I've seen in ages.
