Belfor of Tukwila recently remediated and restored my property. I had a massive flooding in the first floor of my house. They did an excellent job of dealing with all my concerns about what the flooding could've done to my house and the processes they used to properly remediate. They provided great customer service, especially in dealing with all my questions and concerns, so I felt confident my home was clean. Additionally, I had some initial issues with the project manager for the restoration part of the work. I called my sales person, Michael Markson, and he worked with me on the challenges I was having. Ultimately, Belfor replaced the project manager and made proper amends for lost time. There aren't many companies that will stand behind their work in that way and be fair about things. I also had a really challenging space to work with to set up a full kitchen in a way where I could maximize the counterspace. BELFOR Property Restoration came out and helped me fix some water damage in my kitchen, as well as were willing to help me with custom cabinetry and adding in a built in microwave! I wanted some custom cabinetry done for a long time and they were able to do the additional project for me since they were already there! In terms of the water damage, they were very responsive, professional, knowledgeable on the process and risks with mold, and made my family feel safe and not put out during the process! In the past, I have worked with other restoration companies that my insurance hired and they were very unprofessional and wiped away the mold with bleach, only for it to grow right back. BELFOR puts their customers first and doesn't cut corners. They made sure everything was dried out before starting the repair and didn't go by "it usually takes X days to dry so we are good" but instead did multiple moisture readings to make sure everything was just right. For the custom cabinetry, I am so impressed!!! We used to have 3 cabinets in our island and they were able to remove one, install the built in microwave (which also required electrical work) AND build a new cabinet that matches the rest of our cabinets perfectly!!! What is amazing to me is they took a space that was a cabinet and created a drawer for me. I was worried about changing the cabinetry since we moved into a new build that had nice finishes, but BELFOR made it look flawless and like you'd never know it didn't come that way. This review is specifically about the process of having an estimate done to restore our roof, exterior and some ceiling surfaces and fixtures inside our house after a cedar tree fell on our house due to a windstorm. My estimator was Collin Daviscourt and I felt that it was worth the effort to pass on a good word about a helpful individual within the company. It was pretty stressful dealing with the insurance company about what was and wasn't going to be covered in the insurance claim. Let's just say that it is not in the best interest of the insurance company to be very thorough in their assessment of all the damage from the falling tree. Collin came over within 2 days of my first call and performed an estimate, taking about an hour. He climbed on my roof, took plenty of pictures and explained to me every item that he would request to be replaced/fixed and why. He went into my attic, looking at the trusses and roof from the inside, pointing out damage that was likely missed by the insurance adjuster. He explained the process of how a punctured ceiling from tree damage would be fixed and how the furniture inside the house would be protected or moved to a safe place during construction. We checked places of the house I would have never thought to look for potential damage from a tree, including all downstairs windows, bathrooms and the garage. I appreciated him explaining his thought process, what he was looking for and taking detailed pages of notes. After the estimate, he offered to work directly with the insurance company to advocate for full coverage for all items damaged due to the tree fall. And true to his word, he followed up with the insurance company repeatedly and consistently. In the end, the insurance company approved a bid from a different restoration company but Collin Daviscourt was there every step of the way, helping me understand how to communicate with the insurance company and following up with the insurance adjuster. I felt that his persistence in presenting evidence of additional damage really helped the insurance company approve a much larger settlement than they initially offered on day one. (over $12K, yes twelve thousand, worth of additional damage that the preliminary adjuster's evaluation did not include) So my suggestion to others Yelpers who deal with these types of insurance claims: do not take the first offer from your insurance company. Even if you get decide to get multiple bids, I wouldn't hesitate bringing in Belfor to evaluate the damage and be part of the discussion and advocate on your behalf. Thankfully, I did decide to because it lead to a fairer settlement for us even though Belfor didn't end up getting approval from the insurance company. read more

Jorge was helpful and really helped us through the whole process and was available whenever we had questions. I would give it one star, but there was one worker who's job was to do the molding and he was very nice. So the extra star is solely for him. We called Belfor in November 2015 at the suggestion of our insurance company, and we weren't done with them until May 2016. They put a tarp on our roof and said it would be for a month of less and the tarp remained on there until March 2016. They were not a consistent company, every time we called they kept pushing it back another month and would simply give us the reason that they were behind on other projects. They tried to over charge us twice which resulted in many phone calls turning to phone tag. Overall, would not recommend. read more

We had the worst experience with this company and would not recommend them to anyone. We had a roof leak and our insurance company had Belfor on their list of approved contractors so we called them up. At first everything was fine but after the initial bid everything went downhill from there. Every time we were told someone was coming out it didn't happen when it was supposed to even after I'd called to confirm. We were told our flooring had been ordered and then the day before install when I called to confirm again we found out it hadn't been so they had to rush to make it happen. There were so many more things that went wrong, too many too list. Every time I called to complain I could not get anyone to transfer me to a manager. Also they ended up subcontracting out the work due their screw ups and no one from Belfor ever bothered to follow up with us to see if we were satisfied or not and we were not. So frustrating!!!!! The office in Riverside, CA did not return my call for an estimate since 9/04/13, and when I spoke to the GM, Kurt Vergoef, today, he refused to send anyone because I refused to show him my insurance estimate which had already been "cashed out". The decision on which company I would use for remediation and reconstruction was up to me. He insulted my intelligence by saying that he had "an agreement with my insurance company" and I advised, " they never said anything like that to me, and in fact, they said, you can do anything you want with the check". I asked him to put his statement in writing to me and he refused. I believe he refused as he knew it was a lie and was an outrageous one at that. He then said, " sorry we can't be of help to you". I note that most of the good reviews on this site are from "other" states. I hope Belfor's CEO, Sheldon Yellen, who gets so much publicity in "Inc" magazine, etc. re: being "No. 1" in the restoration field, and being so "interested in PEOPLE", etc. initiates some training sessions with his new, three year old, office in Riverside. They are the most amateur, crude people,.with adversarial attitudes ( the receptionist, Robin, refused to tell me who the CEO of the company was, and said I'd have to ask Kurt Verhoef.......like it was a secret organization!!!!!!). And, Kurt Verhoef, talked to me like I was the creature from the Black Lagoon because I wanted an estimate, and an expert opinion. This is not a good company. Their goal is, in my opinion, to get the job before any other company estimates are secured, get the most money that insurance will pay, and know that figure before they give an estimate. And too bad for the client that gets cashed out. and refuses to play that game, and just wants a legitimate estimate. This company should be investigated, as something is very wrong in how they're doing business ( with no government oversight.) It's a billion dollar business and they're in bed with insurance companies ( per Kurt Vergoef) who give them carte blanche. Our home flooded on Dec 12 (frozen pipe busted due to unusual cold weather in Seattle). We had significant damages (2/3 of our home was impacted, we lost dry wall and all hardwood floors) and Belfor Property Restoration was the company selected by our condo association to manage repairs. Ted Sitterley from Belfor and all his contractors (drying/dehumidifying, painting, carpenters, flooring, duct cleaning, etc) did remarkable work in our house to get everything back to normal in 2 weeks (record time given the extend of our damages, the Holidays and the busy repair season due to all the floods/busted pipes all around Seattle.) We highly recommend Belfor! My husband and I couldn't be happier and more grateful as our first son is arriving in any moment and Belfor went above and beyond as they knew how stressed we are due to imminent baby arrival. Poor communication. Frustrating timing - and this was just during the stage of getting a quote. During the quotation development stages, someone came to evaluate the work to be done and he took a cabinet door from my place to be able to match wood and stain. We ended up choosing NOT to work with BELFOR (for numerous reasons) and they didn't return the door. Upon contacting them kindly for its return, I was notified:"if you need us to deliver it it will be $400.00 for trip charges incurred." This is absurd. My wife and I found mold in our daughter's nursery before she was born. We contacted our condo HOA because we thought it was water coming in from outside. Belfor Senior Project Manager Brain Wilcut and his guys came out to our place found and found the issue. It took our HOA board a week to approve the proposal. Belfor is best described by the logo on their truck--24 hour disaster team. They milked our insurance company for $200,000 then did next to nothing to repair our home. What they did accomplish was to destroy our two fireplaces and the chimney. They destroyed 6 white oak trees as well as all of our landscaping. Our furnace and air conditioner were inoperable by the time they were finished and, to add insult to injury, they kept our possessions in storage and refused to release them to us. All in all, Belfor delayed our repair by 3 years. I would not recommend them to anyone, ever. read more

We had a terrible experience with Belfor. While under warranty on their new construction, our roof leaked twice. The first time they brought a team out and the job was completed slowly but adequately. By the next rainy season, the roof started leaking again, and Belfor refused to return our calls. We called for two months, until they finally sent someone to inspect their work. Weeks later, and without anyone ever returning my calls, they sent a certified letter saying our home was no longer under warranty and that the leaves in the gutter caused the leak. I had another contractor review the roof, and they verified that the leak was caused by Belfor's poor workmanship, not the leaves. Furthermore, my contractor had verbal agreement from Belfor that they would pay for replacement of the roof. Belfor bailed on this too. Ross Michell and Steve Winthrow were the representatives who told me by telephone they would repair their work, and then bailed without even the honor of a conversation. Due to their poor integrity, I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

On 5/4/11 we had a major fire in our home damaging the entire house. Belfor was called in and at first the demolition and removal of contents went without a hitch. Then the problems started - an incompetent carpenter who did shoddy work which they still have not fixed, a bad leak in a wall from a hole put in by - according to them - the plumber or heating and cooling contractor - who knows. Their response was to paint over the buckled paint and drywall instead of fixing it properly and repairing the hole. The estimator who was on the job was rude, nasty and heaven help you if you did not meet his demands as evidenced by him coming into my home and trying to bully me into signing the final authorization for payment before they were finished. It was a fight for them to do the garage which is attached to the living room wall which is where the fire started and most of the damage occurred. When they were told about the smoke smell I was told "oh yeah, we know but figured it was no big deal". And now they want further payment for work they still have not finished and want to blame it on me for my "inability to contact Belfor". I'm sure it has nothing to do with the numerous calls I put in to them before I left on vacation which evidently I was not supposed to do before they decided to mosey on over and fix what still needs to be fixed. I would get bricks and cement and finish my house myself if need be rather than call Belfor for anything ever again. They can continue to threaten me all they want but no one should get paid before all the work is done. It is now a month after I originally started this post. I have been threatened, told the work was completed even though it isn't and the foreman on the job wanted me to pay him before everything was done so that he could get his Christmas bonus. Everytime my phone rings and it is Belfor I think it is them coming to finish what needs to be done, but it is them calling to threaten and harass me. I wouldn't let those people fix my dog house let alone my house. The shoddy workmanship is coming out more and more the longer we are home.....and don't even ask about the items I was told were ordered that I have yet to see or weren't ever done. If Belfor shows up at your house, run as fast as you can to anyone else! read more

I can't even begin to express how frustrating and terrible it has been hiring Belfor for a repair job for our home. There was a backup in the main sewer line so the downstairs bathroom flooded into the bedroom. The initial work was done by another company which ripped out all the carpet and side boards, removed the bathroom vanity cut out part of the dry wall. Belfor was suggested by the water damage people and the real nightmare began. I called to schedule a time for them to come out and assess the damage and it took a FULL WEEK for anyone to actually come out. This was after they strung me along saying someone would call me each day to schedule a time. I called them each day and each day they said one of their contractors would call me. The contractor set up a time and then didn't show. And finally when he did show, he took a couple measurements which took 10 minutes then left. Then another week of daily phone calls and demanding a firm estimate on when work could start yielded this response from Belfor: "We won't be able to start work for another 4-6 weeks." W.T.F.?! The lady's response to my anger was "Well don't you have another bathroom in the house?" I wish I could do more to steer people away from this company. It's just unbelievable... read more

Having to deal with a company like this is never a truly enjoyable experience, but even though the overall process was drawn out and communication was rough dealing with multiple people (insurance companies/ subcontractors), Anatoly and his crew did a good job of communicating and were very personable and trustworthy. I felt very comfortable with them working on the house whether I was present or not. Anatoly did his best to go above and beyond to make sure things were done right and well, and made sure that if he or his crew couldn't be there, someone else from the company would be. The worst company I have ever had to deal with. If I could give this review zero stars I would. These people have the communication skills of a brick wall and the book keeping skills of a preschooler. We had damage to our floors. Our insurance company hired these incompetent people to come out to put fans to dry out our floors for 24 hours. Mind you, my wife is trying to deal with these people while I'm 7,000 miles away. Long story short, we thought they had been communication with our insurance company. Wrong!! 7 months later we get a bill for $1200. I call my insurance company. They attempted to get ahold of the company. Belfor never called back. Instead, they send us to collections. Finally my insurance company got a hold of them and a payment was issued. 3 weeks later after the payment had cleared I receive another collection notice for the same amount that had just been paid 3 weeks ago. We filed a claim with insurance company, and they recommended Belfor. It was all right experience while they were doing the work. They promised me that insurance will pay them and had me sign some papers. After a while we asked them to stop with the work, because we were waiting for insurance response. 10 months later I received a weird call from them and they were asking me to pay them. I couldn't understand wht were they waiting for all this time? I was repeating them "talk with insurance about payment" and I said that I do not want to pay! As soon as I said that, he threatened me with filing lien on my house and hang up on me with no trying to resolve the situation.
