Located outside of downtown, we walked in and got seated right away by the lovely staff. Surrounded by Arab-American families, I knew this was the right spot! We were given some pita bread with a house dip (which I only got a pic of after digging in). We ordered the Olive Tree Sampler, Fatoush, and the Mansaf (as this is what I had a craving for). The sampler platter was very good, offering a wide variety of options and flavors. The Fatoush was good, but not the best I've had; I was a little disappointed by it. But the headliner, the Mansaf, was probably one of the better ones I've ever had! The lamb was cooked to perfection and the rice was delicious. The portion was good enough to feed 4-5 people, so for the two of us it was a struggle, but we gorged ourselves on the dish. The flavors made it too difficult to stop eating... If you have a craving for Middle Eastern food, or even curiosity about trying it for the first time, I would highly recommend going to the Olive Tree!

I want to eat every pairing they suggest. My husband cannot get over the Merlot cheddar and chocolate jam. I was partial to the potato cheddar and sweet onion jam. The Fattoush dressing is the type that has olive oil instead of pomegranate molasses (or at least includes it) and you can legitimately taste the quality of the olive oil. The five items I got, ranked from best to least best: 2 falafels-really good, hummus-very good, cucumber salad-good, cous cous-fine, beet salad-meh. Make sure you ask for the hot sauce - it jazzed everything up. The platter was served with a couple of pieces of pita, but there really needed to be more to dip into all the salads. The only available drinks were to purchase bottled water or bottled soda. I only ate about a third, but I will say it did not travel well. Because three of the salads were placed in the same section, by the next day all three salads were a combined soggy mess, and the only part that was still edible was the hummus. I did enjoy the food, and the worker was incredibly friendly and hospitable, but it was a bit too pricey for one lunch for me.

Either way, I'm very pleased with the fact that I've begun exploring these great little mobile sources of food pleasure. This food truck swung by work recently, and I have to admit I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Middle East cuisine. The young woman taking the order was very patient and explained all the different plates, the variations available, and what came on each. Her top recommendation came for the beef shawarma and I told her I'd take it. One thing that folks have to realize is that these are mobile kitchens with very limited space. In today's age of fast food that seems to be sitting under a food warmer and being prepared long before you order, there is an unrealistic expectation that a food truck will spit your order out in a minute or two. I played on my phone for a while and was delighted when my name was called. The meat was perfectly seasoned and there was no skimping on the portions. The liberal amount of sauce on top added to the tastiness (and most definitely the messiness) of this dish. I'm hoping this food truck comes back soon. Not only for a chance to try some other of their tasty dishes, but also because of the friendliness of the woman at the window, and for how (relatively) quickly my food was served.

When I asked about moving, we were told the tables were reserved and we'd need to leave by 8:30 PM ~ yet we stayed until 9:40 PM and those tables were never used... Service started off slow. No one greeted us for about 20 minutes until we waved someone over. When our server, Briana, arrived, she asked if we had been helped, which made it seem like there was a lack of communication between the host staff and servers. Food was okay: the branzino with grilled vegetables was very good, but the octopus was extremely tough and chewy. My plate was also chipped on both the left and right sides, which was surprising considering how expensive the dinner was. Drinks were fine, just a bit too sweet. What really caught me off guard was the automatic 20% gratuity added to a two-top. The most expensive restaurants in Tampa don't even do it and this is not Miami. Overall, not a terrible experience ~ but not one that makes me eager to return.
