Everything I've had from there has been delicious. The babalafil and baklava mixed tray are my favorites.

Some real good stuff here. I'm blanking on the name but the lamb filled pastries are delicious and a pretty good deal at a buck a piece. The hummus is great. Hummus is one of those things that is fairly simple to make yet so hard to make great. Proportions of ingredients are spot on and it is as fresh as can be. The pita bread is beyond excellent. They have a larger thicker variety that I am unsure what they call it but it is kissed with just a hint of a cinnamon-y/clove-y type of spice combo and is the perfect blend of chewiness and density. I wolfed down a stupendous amount of the bag I bought with hummus as soon as I got home. The cheese bread is also very good and only survived to see another day in my household because we attacked the pita bread first. Can't wait to get back to try more items. *Navigation tip* If you are coming from the West on Beech Daly turn left at the light on Lyndon or a block further up turn left on Kendall and then from either of those streets turn R onto Royal Grand street which will take you right to Beirut bakery. Since Beirut Bakery is located on the one way north I-96 service drive this will save you from making two Michigan lefts across the freeway to get there. *12-26-10 update. Here's what I got: Bag of fresh pita bread (still steamy) Container of crushed lentil soup, very lemony and delicious and enough for 2-3 servings Vegetable grape leaves for half off (they were a bit broken but I couldn't really tell) - no complaints Small container of garlic dip - it has a very light, almost whipped texture and was very good Half pound of the lentil rice salad which tasted like it had some caramelized onions in it which gave it a nice rich flavor I got all of this for $10.09! So the place is only carry-out/grocery/bakery style. I am going back for the bottle of fattoush dressing I saw and some feta so I can make my own salads at home. When I told the man working that I was vegetarian he literally gave me a sample of almost every vegetarian dish they made. It was awesome. I was almost full by the time I left there. read more

Wow! What a great bakery! They make their own pita bread and goddamn, when you get that stuff the day that it's made, it is like crack. No lie--I could not stop eating it! They also sell individual pitas covered with cheese! SO. GOOD. Besides their kick ass pita bread, they sell hummus, baba ghanouj, awesome spinach pies (not like the greek style w/feta and fillo dough--more like spinach, lemon, olive oil and onion, sans fillo), and other standard middle eastern fare. Also, something that I was really impressed by was that they make their own olive oil. Each year they travel to Lebanon and bring back green and black olives. They press the olives and create delicious olive oil right at the bakery; each bottle is $15 (I think), which I think is very reasonable. I'm bummed out at myself for not buying a bottle (I've been a little to spendy lately and trying to exercise restraint, ok?), but I suppose that gives me a reason to go back there soon. Beirut bakery deserves a great deal of credit for my desire to hunt down family owned ethnic food establishments. I've been popping in this spot as long as I can remember and it's been an absolute treat time and time again. Growing up in the west side burbs doesn't lend itself to a ton of adventurous food options, but the Lebanese spots are flat out the best. I have dreams about the spheha ( lamb pie with mint)and green beans in garlic and tomato. Have them toast the spheha on the grill and you'll be speeding back down 96 looking for another I promise. Also the baba Is smoky and tangy and lip smacking good. Try it with the cheese bread to be an extra fat kid about it trust me...Pretty much everything is spot on here so don't be shy to ask for samples, one time the had me trying all these crazy combos of things the way they like em. Awesome. Oh yeah I've recently discovered the 1 dollar worth of zattar spice on the shelf. Toss some in Yo scrambled eggs for an omlette and watch your friends get weak in the knees... I'm not going to let a lil stinkin cold keep my from my yelping duties : ) I've been sick for the past couple days and still not feeling up to par, but my sweet husband was kind enough to take me to Beirut, today. This is my first time visiting this establishment and I was not disappointed. I was disappointed that we got there so late (they close at 3); we got there at 2 p.m. Much of the counter food was picked over. There was only 1 cheese bread left. : ( With all my shortness and sass, I pushed through the line of males and grabbed that last bread and gave the "I dare you" look to any one of them who thought they were going to pry it out of my hands! lol I would have snotted on them : ) LOL I'm so gross! So my hubby and I made a lil lunch for us to go. 2 fried kibbee, two spehas (sp?), 4 vegetarian grape leaves, hummus and cheese bread. $10 Now mind you, I have a cold, so my taste buds are a little off and I'm not sure if I am a fair judge or not. my husband has similar tastes as mines, so I used him as a judge, too : ) The kibbee was YUM! The lamb mixture was puuurrrfect : ) Just the right about seasoning (and I could taste it even though I was congested). There were nice slivers of almond in the kibbee mixture. EXCELLENT. The cheese bread is good, but too me, it was bland. I'm use to it being a bit saltier in taste. The Spehas were delish. Again, the right about of spice and mix..perfect taste. I didn't care for the grape leaves. I've had better. The rice was undercooked and I kept getting bits of hard rice, a little mushy but most of all the flavoring was off or my congested head just wasn't getting the right flavor. The hummus was delicious. I prefer a creamier/tart hummus. This one had the tart and a bit of nuttiness from the beans. It was a good mix. It was clean and the girl working the counter was very very nice. It was busy when we arrived and when we were leaving. I am thankful that I don't have to drive all they way to Dearborn to get my ME fix. The prices are perfect. There is a bakery in Dearborn that my husband will frequently visit and the prices for the same items are about 30% more. I will definitely return as they have many other items that I want to try. The young lady suggested that I order cheese bread on Friday (they don't bake on Saturday) and reserve it for pick up! read more

What a wonderful place! The food is very fresh and tasty. The staff is really friendly and helpful. If you are unsure of a salad or rice dish, just ask for a sample. It is sad to admit, I have lived in the area for 8 years and this is my first visit! Won't be the last, for sure. I tried the Fattoush salad and spinach pie. The salad was amazing and the dressing, even better (they bottle and sell it, too). Beiruit Bakery doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The employees are very friendly and the place is small, but clean. They have specials for sandwiches, salads, etc. and a big selection of all your Middle Eastern favorites. The fatoosh is super crisp and fresh, which makes me happy since wilty lettuce is a big pet peeve of mine. And, if you get a take-out order, they serve the dressing and pita chips separately to keep things from getting soggy. Yay! read more

Pros: The food is great and fresh. Particularly love the zataar, garlic sauce, and beef shwarma. Cons: Parking lot is just as authentic as one you'd find in the middle east. Upon getting a job in Redford I was super stoked. Upon discovering Beirut Bakery is a mile away I was ecstatic. I'm not big on Mediterranian-Middle Eastern-Lebanese food, but this place is one of the few exceptions. I've had some really good shwarma in New York and this ranks right up there. The service inside is great. The girls are always so nice and helpful. They always try to pair my food selections with a particular sauce or side, but I'm extremely picky so it never works on me. Even so, I eat it and pretend to like it because I don't want to disappoint them. I used to buy their garlic sauce at Busch's for an exuberant amount. So being able to get a huge container of it for only 2-3 bucks is awesome. Definitely worth the trip even if its a bit of a drive. Unfortunately the parking lot is kind of a joke. It's tiny and has some decent craters, mixed in with a "hmmm, is this a curb or an entrance" thought every time I pull in. There is always open spots as it's not a sit down place. I highly recommend this place to everyone. I don't like to go into places not knowing anything about a type of food, but the workers are over joyed to help you and answer your questions. read more

Have to agree with much of what Elizabeth C. says. I've been going here since moving to Redford in 2004 because it's very local to me and I love Arabic foods. Their hummus is responsible for getting my three year old to eat his raw vegetables. When you visit, be sure to pick up at least one pint of this stuff - very zesty. Best of what I've tasted in the Detroit area. According to the owner, it freezes OK too, though I've never tried this - it's eaten too quickly in my household. The pita is excellent and available in 2 sizes (sometimes 3). Highly recommended is their green bean/tomato/garlic salad. Though a little oily, I have to get this every time. Also good are their spinach pies (in both greek / feta / phyllo style and lemon/pocket style) and meat pies. Like many bakeries, not everything is available all of the time. Baklava is available in pistachio and walnut in all sorts of styles. Having been spoiled with mass quantities of Shatila (Dearborn) baklava I have high standards and found BB's a little too sweet yet bland. I buy it anyway to get my baklava fix. Also recently tried an anise & fig Easter cookie and a rice pudding with rose water - both very good. Expect everything that they make there to be very fresh and preservative free, which also means that it needs to be eaten within two days, three at the most. They also have a small grocery section with spices, dry goods, cheeses, etc. Located at a very busy intersection of Schoolcraft; most people speed by while exiting I-96. Parking is a bit strange, just pull up on the sidewalk. Agree with Elizabeth C. in that the employees/owners are very friendly. Now accepts plastic payment; a good thing for both of us - I tend to spend more. Beirut Bakery is also fairly inexpensive, for now. It's up there with Randazzo's Market for my list of cheap and fun family-pleasing eats in Redford. read more

The Beirut Bakery is a great place, one of my favorites to go on my lunch breaks. It's set up like a grocery store deli. There are a couple tables, but I wouldn't call this place a dine in restaurant. The service is still great and the girls behind the counter are really cheery and helpful. The place also operates as a mini grocery store for your Mediterranean cooking needs. I get the impression that all the ingredients are fresh and organic, at least that's how all the food tastes. If you find yourself lost and confused, ask for a taste! It's fun to be adventurous here because virtually everything tastes pretty good. I have been here at least 50 times in the last few years. It is by far the best Middle Eastern food in the area, whether you're looking for sandwiches or sides. And if you're a green olive fan, they have THE BEST marinated green olives you will ever eat. I typically walk out with a chicken shawarma and a falafel sandwich and a couple sides. Just went here for the first time and can`t wait to go back. Being a hommus snob BBs hommus may be the best I have ever had. The meat pies were very tasty and their salad dressing is filled with fresh herbs!! I will update when I try other things, but from the first things I have tasted I only see it getting better!! EDIT: Been here 9-10 times since and have tried pretty much everything and it has never disappointed. Plus even if it did the staff is so nice and helpful it would not matter. I would still come back. If you are driving down Jeffries in Redford make it a point to grab something to take home. This is a deli type place with only 2 tables but man, is the food good! Counter staff was upbeat, helpful and friendly. Think I may have seemed a little gruff at first (just my nature rather than an attitude) but they worked with me and made me feel welcome there. I left full of really nice food and feeling happy. I have drove past here So many times!! Ive seen people raving about this place. I decided to go in finally. They had something online about an orange tree, I really wanted to see the orange tree in person. Its absolutely beautiful!! I was impressed by the selection of stuff they have in the store. It kinda seems a bit pricey but I'm not a frequent shopper with this type of market so I'm not sure how it compares up to others. I know its fresh and thats what matters to me! Ive never paid too much attention before to prices specifically. The store was So busy. Im glad to see they are doing so well. The line seemed to move very quickly despite them being busy which was Very cool. The girl rang me up for one more spinach pie than I actually had but I know it wasn't on purpose they were bagged up already & its an easy mistake to make esp when very busy. I will def be back. I know a few people who would love to see the tree! The people working are a family and you can tell they are very happy to be there they are all smiles! read more
