The owner is a real snake. Brought my car in for upholstery and a new top installed The owner stole my head rest and swapped it out for a cheap different one. Who does this ! He did. Funny thing is if he would have asked I had an extra one I would of have him for FREE! I confronted him and he said he was using it for a another car or some BS. I had a tear (plus a splitting seam developing) in the leather seat of my 2017 Subaru. This had been bugging me (and getting worse) for about a year. Upon the recommendation of my mechanic, I called Beil's, who had me bring in the car the next day for a look. I met with Trevor, who examined the car and quoted a price, and then ordered a part needed to fix the problem. They called me the next day that the part was received, and we scheduled the repair for the next day, at which time the work was beautifully done either the seat looking great! Trevor was thoroughly professional. We had a small tear in our driver's seat for our Subaru Outback. I drove up for an estimate and was seen right away. Trevor went to get a swatch to match the color/material of the seat. Once I approved the match, we made an appointment for the following week. The work was done in approximately 4 hours and I was pleased with the price and workmanship. Additionally, Trevor was professional and friendly. My Buddy recommended this place, had all his cars upholstered here! I have an 04 Cavalier (original owner) & it just turned 10years old with only 32K miles on it. Wanted a new look so I came here, had old OEM fabric inside. Spoke with Trevor who helped me out with swatches & stuff. Chose what I wanted & was quoted 1500 for the whole thing. Materials finally arrive a week or so later, left my car & in 2days seats, bench & headliner were all redone! Car looks great very happy with end result, total price was 2G's, but well worth it! Short sport-touring or sport bike riders, rejoice!!!! I say this, of course, because I stand 5 foot 3 inches on a good day, and if I happen to be wearing my motorcycle boots, I stand 5 foot 3.5 inches. And if I were proportioned so that my legs were longer than my torso, finding bikes that fit me wouldn't be a problem. But alas - this is not the case, as I have much more length from my torso up than I do from my legs down. As such, even motorcycles such as mine (2004 Kawa ZZR600) present slight problems with its demure 30.7 advertised seat height. Onto the review: Location: 3 out of 5 Out of the way if you live in the loop, but because they came at a recommendation from Motorcycle Mania, the entity that I trust with all of my motorcycle needs, I made the trip to Edgewater. The Granville Red Line stop is a bit of a trek, although the Clark bus is right out in front (or across the street, depending on which way you're going). Customer Service: 5 out of 5 The first person that I talked to on the phone was a very nice gentleman, who is the now-proprietor of the shop. I believe his name is Paul. I dropped my seat off, and he gave me a conservative estimate of when I could expect a call regarding my motorcycle seat. The original intent was to have them shave about 1.25 inches out of the existing seat to get me closer to the ground. I was given a conservative estimate of 3 working days. But I got a call the next business day letting me know what could, and could not be done. As it turns out, 1.25 inches in the front of the seat basically brought the foam all the way to the plastic, which is not ideal. I made a trip after I got the call and interacted with Paul's son, named Trevor. Now, Trevor and Paul are both only about 5 foot 5, and they are built in a similar manner - shorter legs in comparison to their respective torso. Trevor actually came up with a decent solution: he would cut out 1.25 of the stock foam, and replace 1 inch of it with a softer foam. Although 1/4 inch may not be much, because of the compression ratio, the seat would, in theory, get me closer to the ground, which would help me when backing up the bike. After speaking to Trevor, he showed me lowered CBR600. It's a pretty nice set-up. The summary here, is that interacting with both Paul and Trevor was as easy and as amicable as it got. Shop Amenities: 4 out of 5 I'm not in tune with what should go into an upholstery place. But they have a very large working area with multiple long benches and work stations. Things aren't exactly "organized" in a traditional sense, but I could tell by watching the people who were working in the shop that all of them knew exactly where everything was. They also have large open spaces to work on their current car projects. Selection of Services: 5 out of 5 Very impressive. Again, because I don't know what all goes into an upholstery place, what I saw may be narrow in scope. On the day that I picked up my seat, Paul gave me a tour of the place. At that moment, they were working on an old GTO (new convertible cover, new seat upholstery, restoration, etc.), and old school Bentley, a boat seat, various couches/sofas/chairs, and a few other vehicles that were replicas of cars that I see in "antique" car magazines. Pricing: 5 out of 5 I had called to get a quote from Paul before I dropped off the seat. He said "anywhere between 75 and 125 is what we usually charge." This seemed reasonable, as other places in Chicago (including Orlando's Glass) gave me ballpark quotes of 175 - 200. Well, I picked up the seat and the bill was a whopping 25 dollars. Not 125. Not 75. But twenty five dollars. Paul's reason was simple: "Trevor didn't have to do that much...the hardest part was just cutting the foam." Final Product: 5 out of 5 After about 400 miles on the new seat, I can say that it was a complete success. Placebo effect or not, I feel like I have a bit more leverage, particularly when backing up the bike. Also, the mixing of softer foam with a bit of feathering juxtaposed with the stock foam didn't present a problem at all. Since I ride in heavily padded biking shorts under my jeans, the addition of the softer foam was, in essence, like putting a pillow there for my gonads. In other words - the seat is very comfortable. Overall: 5 out of 5 This place is frequently featured in local and national magazines, and may be listed as "Biel" instead of "Beil." I would highly recommend them based on their work products, ethics, and amicability. And if you happen to be a short motorcycle rider, they can probably do wonders for your seat to make it a little more accessible. read more

I live near O'Hare and came out to Beil based on these reviews, especially Andy C's. Last summer I bought a 96 BMW K75RT with the ironically named "comfort seat". It's design prevented me from sliding back at all. I'm a 5'9.5" tall and my knees kept hitting the fairing lowers so I had to splay out my legs. It didn't take too many rides for me to be thinking of a new seat. When I got to Beil on a Monday afternoon, Trevor attended to me almost immediately. I explained what I wanted. he offered a few solutions. In the end, I decided to shave off 2" off the back of the rider's section which would allow me to slide back. I also decided on a standard black cover. Trevor offered to let me bring the seat home after the shave to try it out. Since I lived so far and I thought it was a simple modification, I declined. Still a professional gesture which I appreciated. Trevor then took me into the back room to show me his motocycles including a Grom and Ruckus. Always to cool to talk to a bike enthusiast! I then asked for a delivery estimate and price. I asked if I could have it by the end of the week, hoping to go riding on the weekend. Trevor said they had some large projects and that they would try. The price was to be $200-250. A little more than I wanted to pay, but then again, what do I know? Friday Morning I got a call that the seat was ready. I picked it up. The price was $200. The seat looked great, looked OEM. I mounted it on the BMW and it sat upon it. Perfect. My car had a leak coming through the sunroof and needed a new headliner on top of that. I took it to Beils and Trevor was very straight forward about the process. He water tested the leak to find exactly where it was, silicone sealed it (because they no longer make the gasket where the leak was coming from). And applied a brand new headliner. It was very reasonably priced and the quality of the work was A+. Next time I have an issue with my interior I'll be coming back! read more

These guys are professional, courteous and fast! I took my '03 Audi A4 here recently because the driver's side seat had an ugly tear in the bolster. Trevor took a quick look, immediately assessed that the bolster's were factory vinyl despite the seat bottom/back being leather (who knew?), and gave me a quote much lower than I feared. Took the car in the next morning and it was done within a half-day. The results look great - color matches and you'd never guess it wasn't the original panel. Repair: rip on the vinyl portion of car seat of Audi A4 Rocky (spelling?) was awesome taking probably 20-25 minutes of her day to explain pricing, process, etc. with me on my initial phone call. I drove there on a Saturday morning to get a quote - took about 5 mins. I spent more than 5 mins there as Trevor is a motorcycle guy as am I. The fix was to replace just the panel that was ripped. The price was way lower than those companies that do vinyl repair with composites or liquids. They can accommodate before-hours drop-offs and after-hours pick-ups. Not really centrally located but they're about 3-4 blocks away from Granville Red Line stop if you work downtown. Get an appointment first. As promised, my car way ready on same day as drop-off day. I was going to be picking up after hours. My paid bill was in the trunk with the key (as instructed) with a nice note from Rocky and some little packaged M&M candies. And they're family owned! I could not have had a better experience. My 4 year old Subaru developed a tear in the driver's seat. Apparently Subaru's leather seat is about half leather and the rest vinyl. The vinyl part tore. Trevor said he could match the vinyl with leather and sew it in or he could get a replacement cover from Subaru and install that. I went with the latter. [I actually thought he meant he would get Subaru leather for a perfect color match versus using non Subaru leather for a pretty good match-I was wrong, he meant to replace the whole seat cover with a new Subaru part.] I went in on a Monday to have him look at the seat, he had the new cover from Subaru on Tuesday and installed it on Wednesday morning in about an hour. I thought the fee was very reasonable-about $200 for everything. I suspect if I had brought my car into the dealership for repair the fee would have easily been triple the price and the time without my car much longer than an hour. [I think the dealer would have sent it out to a specialty shop like this for the actual work to be done.] read more

This place has no respect for customers. I put a down payment down early part of December for product that was to be received in two weeks. I had to call to inquire if the order came me. The guy on the other end said yes, and I was surprised that no one called me. When I asked him if I could bring my car in, I was told that the shop would close for the holidays but would reopen on Jan 3rd. When I did not get a cal back, I called on the 4th and the lady that answered the phone said that there was death in the family and they would be gone for many weeks. I called again on Feb 1st, 2017 and asked the guy why no one called me that they were back in business, there was no response. So I requested to have my down payment back , which was refunded without any apology or explanation. The guys are very unprofessional, undependable and disrespectful. read more
