I've been here quite a few times whenever we're in Scotland. I'm not quite sure if this places turn into a night life scene after hours. We've been for dinner and lunch and always enjoyed our meal. Service was always been great with a friendly smile when we walk in. Menu does have a good selection of dishes. Some are new to me as certain dishes are not offered in the states. Or some is their version of what we have. It does get quite busy as it's one of the local spots in the town. Which not a lot of other places have closed down nearby. Overall, food was good. Service was nice and friendly staff. Like mentioned, don't know if it becomes a social scene cat night. Have notices a dj there and security at the door before. read more

Good pub food. The soup tasted really nice, home made and the warm soda bread with it was perfect. The onion rings were huge and super crunchy, just couldn't taste vinegar. My friend enjoyed the Mac and cheese. Staff were lovely and fun! read more

Ok, first things first, this place always seems to be packed when I visit. If you want a table, better be on the safe side and book it. The business doesn't seem to affect the staff though. On the three occasions I've visited, they've always been fantastic and attentive without being pushy. The menu is pretty varies. There are pub classics like burgers, but also a fair Tex-Mex themed section and even a couple of curries. Portions are generous and I've only once made the mistake of ordering a starter and a main (it turned out to be way too much food for me but there are probably combinations for which this isn't true). The haggis mini chimmis are good, so's the beef curry, the buttermilk fried chicken and the baby back ribs. I've yet to be disappointed with any of the food and the selection of drinks from the bar isn't bad either. Actually, even if you're not eating, this isn't a bad spot for a couple of drinks. The only reasons it doesn't get five stars is that it does feel over crowded to me when full. Hardly a bad thing for BtW if they're popular, though. read more

Being a voucher queen I've used the 2 for 1 deal 3 times this month to eat here and never been disappointed yet!! ... I've used the vouchers for 2 dinner visits and one lunch visit with my family - and it's been a great way to get them away from their usual haunt!!!! I love the variation in behind the wall if you want to sit somewhere different every time .... The main bar, conservatory, beer garden, large bistro area and ale house upstairs - including the area for bands and televised sport events .... The staff are friendly and the food was always tasty .... I'm sure they are approaching their 30th year birthday as a family run business and over the years has seen this place go from strength to strength ... Best pub in falkirk xx read more

I went to BTW on a recent trip back to my hometown and I was sad that it's not as good as it used to be. I guess I went there for nostalgia reasons so that was my bad. My friend and I got the nachos to share which were ok. Nothing special... they used to be pretty special you guys. And it was dead so there wasn't really any atmosphere the night we went. We parked at the bar for most of the night even though it wasn't that busy. We tried a few of their specialty cocktails and asked for them to make something with gin and not too sweet, thats when I realized the cocktail skills were not quite there. With that in mind, we went for the classic cocktail list and that was much better. Porn star martini is the only way to go. That bumped this up from 2 to 3 stars (that's how many Martini's I had)! What's a porn star martini? Vanilla vodka, Passoa, Porsecco and fresh passionfruit. I might need to start making those at home. read more

I love Behind the Wall. What can I say, the food, the drink, the staff and the service are fantastic. Alcohol prices in most places nowadays are over priced so you get used to it wherever you go. For me, Behind the Wall is a favourite bar of mine to visit, plenty of places to sit, an upstairs and downstairs lounge. Entertainment on nearly every other night. Falkirk's social scene has never quite managed to hit that of London or New York, and for many years this cavernous pub was pretty much the central hub of it all. With several rooms, a restaurant, and an admittedly shit nightclub bit through the back at weekends, it did at least cover many bases. Up until recently it was always mobbed, and unusually for a bar in a midsize town, never had any neds. Since the opening of a huge, naff and generally unpleasant sports bar in 2008 though, the numbers have begun a slow but steady decline, and it's no longer the town's social hub in the way it was. That's not to say it's quiet or anything, and I'm still sure it's immensly profitable.It's just a shame that the locals flocked to a horrible, tacky and rough chain pub the first chance they got. The pub could be doing a bit more to reclaim it's crown however. The Mexican style grub isn't bad, but along with the decor and music selection in the main bar, seems a bit stuck in the late 90s, and it's more expensive than most bars in the big cities just a few miles East or West. It still has more atmosphere, and a better level of punter than anwhere else in the town, so I'm sure it could return to it's glory days with a bit of effort, but they don't seem in much of a hurry to do anything about it. read more

Behind The Wall was...just not as good as I remember. I hate writing these kinds of reviews so I'll keep it as short as possible: The nachos were OK, the burger was OK. There was nothing wrong, other than the fact that it was just all...OK. I've ate lots of burgers since I wrote my original BTW review and, in hindsight, for £10.95, there's far, far better, juicier burgers to be had. It lacked something. - Juicy, succulent, top quality beef, a signature burger sauce, something... It all felt a little pre-packaged. I left with a serious case of burger regret. read more

My fave thing about BTW is Eglesbrech Ale and Whisky Bar upstairs. This is a sports bar with TV's and a large screen. It can get very busy when popular sporting events are on, my tip is to get there as soon as possible if you want a table. The tables are refectory style upstairs and can seat a huge gang of mates comfortably. There are alwyas guest ales on and they are always usually good quality and some are unusual. BTW has a restaurant at the back, which I don't use, I've been several times and it has a huge echoey noise to it, so if there's lots of kids in, or just lots of people that sound is deafening and tinny. When I first went I really enjoyed the Tex Mex menu often with a scottish twist, haggis chimichangas I think..or at least haggis something or other. Now I feel the menu is decidedly stale. The food is awlays good quality, well cooked and presented well, its just its the same food, I wish they would rotate their menu. At least they have got rid of the old menu layout, it was incredibly confusing, I gave them a star just for that. At the weekends the young and the restless come here to play, to be seen and heard. It gets busy and the bar can be hard to reach. I havent been in the evening since Sportsters opened but this place has bags of atmosphere that Sportsters doesnt (in my opinion) There are often live bands on upstairs that are usually good entertainment and I think it has just got a late license to compete with the cold airplane hangar that is Sportsters. read more

I have been enjoying the chicken quesadilla in BTW for over 20 years and am delighted it has barely changed in all this time! Great lunch, dinner or snack options, you don't need to be boring and eat the quesadilla all the time! But I totally recommend it! Falkirk's long standing public house institution. read more

Good to see Behind the Wall Busy again. it seemed to have lost a lot of custom to the warehouse that is sportsters and I for 1 am glad because for a while there was no atmosphere in town. I was in on Saturday there and it was rammed full and it wasnt full of kids. Great music downstairs some old cheesy (in a good way)music through in the back area and the band upstairs were fantastic, there was some kind of festival going on like mardi gras with 2 for 1 on cocktails and beads being handed out. It's interesting to hear so many people talk about the rudeness of some of the staff there I have just been informed that I am not welcome back to BTW because I refused to pay for a dessert at a cost of £4.00! Apparently this is company policy, if you refuse to pay for something because you are dissatisfied, you are not welcome back if you do not pay for it. Just had a call from the owner to confirm this. The manager of the evening stated that I was obnoxious, rude and aggressive in my claims, I would disagree. Yet they employ many people (so it seems) with that attitude. Obviously won't be going back there again!! The starter was £5.00 and was tiny. The main was nice - £10ish so fair price I'd say. The dessert, what I did eat of it, was terrible. Was £4.00, tiny, ice cream was more like ice than ice cream. Only ate half of it - stopped eating it when my friend found a hair in his meal. Can't understand why any business would treat their customers this way but each to their own. read more

Not a bad place could of been much better staff didnt do check backs to see if my food was ok and didnt seem to care. I had to go to the bar to ask for my mains not good service but atleast the food was hot and fresh. The prices are reasonable great tasting food and the feel of the pub was warm and cozy upstairs. read more

BTW I've been going to BTW on and off since my college days/ trainee cobbler, and its still the best in FK1 for a drink minus the trouble. 2 Min's walk from train stn. to Glasgow or the Burgho and its usually full of Shereen Nanjiani, which was nice. read more

Behind the wall (btw) has been the scene of some great nights in my life however that has all been undone with their recent change in direction into an attempt to be a cocktail bar. I say attempt because what I saw on the cocktail list could all have been replaced with a glass of sugar and grain alcohol. The service while attentive, and light years better than the casual indifference staff used to treat you with in the downstairs bar, is let down by poor design of the main bar itself. It took me several minutes to realise they even had draft lager as the taps are now in the back of the bar where the spirit rack was and poorly illuminated so the range of beers is not immediately apparent. When pouring from these taps the staff are directly in front of the fridges hindering the work of others trying to get bottles from the fridges, and although the redesigned bar looks pretty the image is spoiled by the easily spotted car jack holding it up. The removal of the big back door of the conservatory area limits the amount of ventilation available making it all feel a bit muggy. And then there is the music. A DJ can be a great addition to a bar, the cavernous trendy spaces of Edinburgh. Glasgow, or London accommodate them quite well and when recognisable tunes are played it can go down quite well. To be subjected to hours and hours of endless looping beats that would be more at home in an arcade game from the early nineties does not a good evening make. Played at a volume that is long passed comfortable and everyone has to talk louder than the DJ and everyone else to be heard creating the atmosphere of a rave in a prison dining hall. Not all things were bad though. The range of draft beer and lager is quite good and suits all tastes and budgets. The spirit selection is noticeably improved with a focus on premium brands especially in the choices of Gin. The food is good with generous portion sizes and the redesign is cosmetically a welcome update to the ageing look that it had previously. It now feels like a good modern bar but lacking a direction a little. Is it a night club? Is it a relaxed cocktail bar? Is it a pub? Right now it's trying to be too many things to too many people. It might work for some but to me it doesn't. I wanted to award more stars to behind the wall in this review but that would be based more on previous experience that the one I just had. I can't see myself returning to behind the wall anytime soon but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a look for yourself. read more

i had not been in here for ages, then i was in her last friday. it used to be a really busy place on a friday night, but not last week. since sportsters opened up round the corner, thay have taken all the regulars from behind the wall. but last week, i came in for a meal and a few drinks. the meal was quite nice. i had dixy chicken and it was a bit too crispy for my. the meal was huge. then we noticed the a sign on the wall that said cocktails were 2 for 1 from 5 till 7pm, so we got 2 big jugs of skittles for 12 pounds, what a great deal, so about 6.50pm we got another couple. they are very tasty. it did get a bit busier later on, but nothing like it used too. they also had a private function on in the conservatory, which is where most of the seating is, so it was a bit limited. i'd definitely go back for a meal and a few drinks. it's a shame it has lot so much of its atmosphere though. read more

Visit with family for a 2 course lunch and catch up at half noon ended in over an hour wait for food order to be delivered - some parts wrong like a wrap being served as a baguette?? gets worse disabled/baby change cordoned off at the back of an unlit empty dining/function/nightclub room - the toilet or rather freeze box in that see your own breath and see kids teeth chatter and bodys shake! Complain by phone ask to put in writing eventually email to them the complaints - hee haw done for 3 weeks then offers of vouchers by manager (duty) as we don't want to loose custom and family when its a decades worth give or take a few years - then nothing - no vouchers - chase up by phone get told why delay - ok - then Brian the MD calls to say his business his decision = no vouchers nothing and no explanations as to why so if complaining due it at time face being barred or called by MD to say almost so what its my business I will do what I like despite what the customer says - see my full and frank review over on tripadvisor seems a pattern 3 bad 1 ok 4 bad 1 good hmmmm not good food not good service not good at taking criticism or complaints therefore customer is not king....so no more custom from me and reading other reviews not surprised! Don't do BTW unless you want the ultimate poor customer service from an MD in Falkirk ever who overrides the decisions of his own managers desperate for the cash cow called families!
