Anne-Laure has a gift of always putting our son in good spirits even though he suffers from depression while teaching him and helping him with challenging tasks. So, here's to all you parents trying to find an ABA company! Nov. 2017 we applied to 2 companies literally days after a diagnosis. We applied to ALP and Trumpet. I had to keep up with ALP, Trumpet would send me an email every single month asking if we wanted to stay on the waitlist, every month I replied. Finally in April I called and then was told we could begin services. After more paperwork and evaluations we began therapy the end of June 2018. While our first therapist was sweet, she was not implementing programs. Being new at ABA and currently going through medical troubles about 6 weeks in I chatted with another mom and she said.. wait all she is doing is playing? You need to ask for another BT asap. So I did. We seemed to have semi regular meetings with the BCBA and the senior BT. Both who were very nice and understanding. 3 therapists later (June 2019) we left for a 6 week vacation to Europe. We were told our spot would not be saved, I understood, but figured being a previous client we hopefully wouldn't have to wait long. I was wrong, we were placed back on the waitlist. COVID-19 happened and then I got an email from both companies.. Trumpet.. did you count?? Yes, that is 2 years and 4 months later on the waitlist, and ALP. I promptly said yes to Trumpet and no to ALP. Because many people were putting services on hold we decided to start services with Trumpet. I will review them so if you want to see my review you can look them up. Honestly, ALP doesn't seem to be as organized and well run. Again, it's the people that make it and really love the kiddos. Yes, there is turnover with BT's, but I am not sure if that can be helped. We also did the social skills group at ALP and my son enjoyed it. Regarding my reveiw from the clinic it burdens me that the hard work that these therapists out in day in and day out go unnoticed and is tarnished by upper management and jeopardises the clinic as a whole. These following events were the turning point in my decision to leave this organization and their clinic. 8/2/2025 was the beginning of many problems to come. I was informed that my daughter Victoria and other kids were going to be moved from their standard therapy area to another area within the facility without ever informing parents of the change. We parents were also informed that client lunches were not going to be heated going forward and many kids wouldn't eat their food because their Therapists were not allowed to heat up foods. Us Parents do not feel that we were given enough notice, and this was a trend of insufficient communication from the ACD Kristy. On 8/8/2025, I had my first appointment about the lack of communication they had regarding changes in the clinic, as if felt that changes could be implemented from one day to the next - without fully communicating with parents so that they could prepare their children such drastic changes. On 9/15/2026, since there was no acknowledgement of my concerns regarding sudden and abrupt changes, i requested a meeting with my daughter's BCBA (Celia), Supervisor (Martin), the Assistant Clinical Director (Kristy) and the Regional Director (Sandhya). The team eventually agreed to give me a tour of the clinic. On 9/16/2025, one of my daughter's therapists was removed from her team due to there apparently being a problem with my daughter's hours in their system. They never clarified what the issue was but stated that it came down to authorized hours. They never clarified with me (the parent) or my daughter's therapists about why these drastic changes had to be made. Me and my daughter's therapist found out the same day, and the next day this decision was effective. This means that from one day to the next, my daughter lost her Therapist who she had so much of a relationship with. This is a huge change for a child with ASD, and I do not feel that it was handled with compassion. To this day, I and my daughter's current Therapist do not understand why there was such an abrupt change. Approximately around the end of September, Celia (Behavior Analyst on my daughter's team), left the branch and she was replaced by a woman named Jasmine Mendoza. By the end of the September to December 18th, this BCBA never reached out to the parent or introduced herself to me. She finally did after multiple times of me asking and asking to meet the new "member of group" because I started to notice negative changes in my daughter that she had never done before. This means that instead of progressing with her therapy, she was losing progress day by day. I asked for meetings with Kristy for months and never got any responses, I was ignored. Around, the beginning of November I was dropping off my daughter at the clinic for her session and we had to sign by paper to clock in and clock out. This was another new change, and as the receptionist Blanca was assisting us, Kristy walked in and started yelling at me - saying that I was not doing it correctly. This was in front of other parents and staff in the lobby. I feel that this was very unprofessional, and demeaning. I told the receptionist that if Kristy wanted to speak with me, to please do it in private and not by raising her voice to me and yelling at me. Another thing i noticed is that Kristy says that she knows Spanish and speaks fluently, but when speaking to her she constantly says she doesn't understand because I need to speak more slowly. Continuing with these issues, on 11/17/2025 they gave me a tour at 9am in the clinic. Martin and Kristy were there present, on that day I told Kristy that I had asked for a lot of meetings regarding Jasmine and that same day I asked for change in BCBA. She told me that Jasmine was a very good BCBA and was doing a very good job but I didn't agree with her opinion and she didn't want to change BCBAs. On 11/21/2025, Seeing that they denied my request for a change in BCBA I went straight to my insurance. My insurance told me that they were going to investigate the issue and asked me if I was thinking or planning to move my daughter to another clinic. I told them that I asn't because of the long waitlist most clinics have. After that, the insurance told me that it's more important for them that my daughter receives her needed services and that me as a mom should feel comfortable with the services she is receiving. They recommended that I look for a different clinic. I will attach the rest of the reveiw.

She is always on time, warm, and kind, and my son truly enjoys his sessions with her. Molly has made such a meaningful difference in our son's speech and confidence. From the very beginning, we were welcomed with open arms, and we've felt like part of a caring, supportive community ever since. Her teacher, Miss Rebekkah, has been with her the entire time--and I honestly believe she is heaven-sent. The level of care, compassion, and dedication she pours into her students is something so rare and beautiful. She has made such a profound impact on my daughter's life, and by extension, on our entire family. I also want to recognize her amazing para, Isabel. She is an absolute gem--kind, patient, and so deeply committed to my daughter's growth and well-being. It's clear every day that she genuinely cares, and knowing that my daughter has both Isabel and Miss Rebekkah in her corner brings me so much peace and gratitude. Every staff member at PACE is wonderful. They go above and beyond, not just meeting the students' needs but truly seeing them--celebrating their strengths, patiently guiding them through challenges, and treating each child with dignity, love, and respect. And one time I delivered 15-30 boba teas to the fine folks who work at the center. They left a STRONG TIP!! The students and their teachers walk past my window every day. The employees park in front of my house. When school lets out, a minor traffic jam hems up the intersection. It is because these fine folks are doing the best they can without the type of facility they want or need. They are kind, caring, smart, educated people who care about others and the community. The families that arrive to pick up their students are all nice. They don't want to be a nuisance. AND THEY ARE NOT! If you have a person on the spectrum, they would be in good hands receiving education from this fine center. They are good neighbors to have. They've brightened many a dull day for me by simply saying hello. I'm sad to leave this area, my home. I was born two miles from here. But leave I must. This corner is filled with great neighbors. They enjoy the sunsets looking down Pruneridge and also forest. They helped me out for my moving sale. But one of my favorite neighbors is the Autism center for education. It's because the people who work here and attend for education are good people making a difference in this world. This corner is nearly a paradise. I'm kissing all my neighbors goodbye. I'll admit, when our home school district first recommended placing my child at PHS, I was very…read morereluctant. I read some reviews online that were, frankly, horrifying. So with a lot of reservations and misgivings, I set up an appointment to tour the school and meet with staff. My initial, still somewhat skeptical reaction to the visit was that it "wasn't as bad as I expected." His shadowing days were rather mixed. The first day, a Wednesday, was "awful" according to him and he got in the car crying and refused to ever go back. But after a cooling off period, I got him to try again on Monday and he had a wonderful day and told me how much he loved it. That was six months ago (give or take) and my son has now been enrolled since the summer program in 2022. He is doing so well both academically but also in his behavior. I believe two things are the overwhelming contributors to this: 1) his class is quite small and he is finally getting the attention he craves (that has often prompted inappropriate attention-seeking behaviors in the past). 2) Negative behavior doesn't give him a free pass to go home for 2-3 days or a week (with a suspension). In addition to these, he is also rewarded, praised, and recognized (attention, attention, attention!) for good behavior. Importantly, he is gaining much-needed confidence and learning to ENJOY school. He also tells me that it is so nice to feel like his classmates "get" him. His teacher, Miss Kathy has done amazing work with him and is a great communicator with the parents as well. The other staff are wonderful as well. In particular, the Dean of Students, Mr. Wallace is deeply engaged and puts his whole heart into connecting with students and improving the school and its programs. I am so glad that I overcame my initial reservations (and my son's!) so that he's a chance to learn to be a better student and have a positive school experience.

The staff here really cares about their adults and children with special needs that use this…read morefacility. They do fun activities with the children every day from 4-5 pm. They give them snacks and free time with puzzles and out door equipment while they wait for the daily activity. With the equipment they have they work well with the children. If you walk in on a random day you may see teenagers gazing at a wall, these are volunteers, there to fulfill their community service requirements. I have met a few volunteers that are great with the kids and excited to work with them, but for the most part they just sit there, which is not the staff's fault. My favorite activity that they do is music class, where a couple of volunteers come with bubbles, tambourines and music to sing and dance with the children, everyone has so much fun! Ms. Campbell, one of the directors is the absolute sweetest woman I have ever met, who deals so well with the children and their behaviors.

Everyone on staff has been incredibly easy and pleasant to collaborate with, and responsive to my questions. The school expanded over the summer to add 2 more classrooms, so that Burkard now has 6 classrooms: K/1, 2/3, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7/8th. Having experienced a few private schools and a public school between my 2 kids, I am confident this is the best environment for my child, for both academic differentiation and SEL support. It's often lamented that parents have to choose the least bad educational option for their 2e kids, but I truly believe this is a great option. We were fortunate enough to be with his amazing 2/3 teachers for 2 years, and have a new set of teachers we love this year, too. Speaking with parents across grades, they also think highly of their teaching teams. My son continues to thrive academically (measured by his overall engagement, as well as MAP testing), and we are very happy with the math differentiation he receives. Each year, I have been pleased with the attention and care the staff takes to make sure he's challenged at the right level. They take great care to plan engaging lessons across ELA, science, social studies and SEL, and incorporate hands on projects regularly to extend their learning. My son regularly shares interesting facts he learned in class! Math is a subject he continues to be passionate about, so I reach out to the school annually for math acceleration. He is given math assessments at the start of each year to determine the appropriate placement, and is given the option of joining a higher level class, or doing independent study in his classroom. We opted this year to have him join the higher level math class on a modified schedule, and we are grateful for the ability to choose the right option for him. The daily SEL teaching is also very well done. Many schools don't have the ability to go in-depth with SEL, but our BT has devised fun games and exercises for the kids to put their SEL knowledge into practice. It was so sweet to hear that my son's 4th grade class taught new recess games to the K/1 class! The BT's keep a close watch throughout the day, so the students are able to learn and play in a physically and emotionally safe environment. When conflicts arise, the staff is there to help the students resolve the issue in an appropriate way. We get daily reports, and twice monthly newsletters sharing what he's learning, so I know he's receiving a high quality education. If your child is at a school that is not meeting their needs, I encourage you to tour the Burkard School. It is truly a gem of a school!
