It is not located in the hip touristy area next to Planet Hollywood. It is a small unassuming pub in a working class neighborhood. We walked from Glasgow University (looks like Hogwarts) which turned out to be a longer walk than Google made it seem. It was cold and drizzly just like Scotland should be so when we got there we were ready. We didn't have reservations but they were extremely nice and sat us down. This is a Pub. Just what you are picturing in your head right now. Dark, lots of dark wood, old crumbling bricks. I love this decor. We started with a couple of appetizers I ordered the Salmon Tartar and my wife ordered the smoked duck breast. I ordered a cold pint my wife had a glass of white wine. We decided to also have a half dozen local oysters. The waitress asked if we were expecting someone else. I guess 3 appetizers is not normal for 2. We were just getting started. Once we demolished all 3 appetizers I followed up with the Pan Seared Gigha Halibut my wife had the steamed Shetland Mussels. What a treat. All the seafood is local and very fresh. All of our dishes from beginning to end were tops. A truly historic dining experience from a historic eatery. In Glasgow then GO...... to The Finnieston. See what I did there. BTW we also had dessert.

They also have an ample and strong selection of drinks. The atmosphere inside is very relaxed--a lot of people coming in to meet up with friends for drinks, conversation, and good times. Of course, when there is a show going on this changes a bit--more energy and ambient noise (which is fine.) The service has also been good both times I've been. I was promptly attended to and food came out quick. Looking forward to my next visit!

I guess, what I'm trying to say is... Hug & Pint, I love you. I've only visited once. It was brief, and I barely sampled your wares. But my gosh, I love you and I am going to keep on coming back for more until you bar me from coming back. I'd never been to the Roxy 171 (oops) but I had been to the Liquid Ship and the layout of the Hug & Pint seems to be similar. Stairs up to the bar area and a nice, relaxed vibe. We got a couple of drinks at the bar and took a seat. It has a cosy vibe without seeming small, and the smell from the kitchen was incredible. I wasn't eating (sadly) but I am going back ASAP for the Asian-inspired vegan menu. There's aubergine on it. Need I say more?! Well, I will. The drinks selection is really good - Thistly Cross cider, Blue Moon, Brooklyn, Innis & Gunn. There's wine, spirits, Aperol and Sam Smith's organic fruit beer. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that I think the Hug & Pint is perfect. I need to go back for more visits and to try the food, so maybe I'll lose the rose-tinted glasses. But for now, it's a 5-star first-visit love affair. Swoon.

How bloody cool is this place!? It's like something out an episode of Luther. Not in a serial killer hiding in the toilet type of way, but in a cool, dark, moody atmospheric type of way. I can imagine Luther standing downing whiskeys at the bar. Ok im rambling, but hopefully by now you understand I like this place. It is very dark inside, but it seems to be just enough light. There is no sign outside. It's to cool for signs or it's so popular that it does not need to advertise? Word of mouth is enough for this bar. They also don't have a menu online and the website is basic. This all flys in the face of most other bars now, who are all are busy trying to build their social media profile, giving you offers and trying to draw you in. Anyways enough background. Tempura prawns to start. They were huge and the sweet chill sauce that was with it was great to. On to the main which was a huge house burger rammed with chorizo, Chilli's, chorizo, an onion ring, etc. There is so many other burger places in Glasgow now, but the burger on offer here is as good as anything you will get elsewhere. Finally on the side there was a portion of great skinny fries and a bottle of anchor steamer. The menu was small but certainly had lots more I would like to try, there was a good variety of beer on offer and the service was great. Dinner made me happy tonight.

Excellent eats, cool cocktails, chill ambience - what's not to like?…read moreLet's start with the food. It's Scottish fare that has been thoroughly hipster-ized (that's a complement!), with excellent ingredients and love in equal measures. Everything is cooked JustRight™, the flavors are clear and cohesive, and there is just enough Surprise on each plate to keep you happy and excited for more. On which note, if they've got the gnocchi and/or the lamb, be sure to get them - they are *exceptional*. About the only weak link is the steak. Which isn't bad at all - it's just that you can get steak anywhere... ) The cocktails are very well done, with the menu separating them out appropriately by type/style. Never fear though, if you're not sure what you want, talk to the bartender, and they'll happy pick one, or work something specific up for you. And as for the ambience, well, what can I say. It's got a lot of wood, and is still airy without being barn-like. You feel the presence of others, but aren't overpowered by them. And the staff is always on hand, ready to help and/or leave you alone if you're having a good time. Most importantly, they don't push you out (we guilted ourselves out well past closing!) The bottom line is that if you're in Glasgow, and in the 'hood, you owe it to yourself to come here...

Chelsea Market just opened a few weeks ago, but gauging by their performance of our dinner service, you couldn't tell this was a new place. Usually kinks need to be worked out from food to service, usually followed by lots of apologies for the inevitable missteps in aforementioned food and service. Nothing of the sort happened. Everything was very well done. We walked in without a reservation to a pretty full dining room and a buzzing bar, but they were able to find us a table. We started off with pumpkin soup which had roasted pumpkin in it and pumkpin seeds, which gave it a nice roasted flavor. For dinner we had the lamb shoulder, red deer and a burger. The lamb shoulder was tasty and very tender. The red deer was excellent and my burger was also very good. The service was good as well. They were friendly and helpful throughout our visit.
