Fried food and fancy caffeinated drinks are delicious, but they are not necessarily the best fuel for getting through your day with lots of energy. I was very happy to find several kinds of smoothies, in two different sizes, including some without dairy. The fresh foods look delicious too, though in my opinion there are too many sandwiches and too few salads. And when I say salads I mean something nutritious; if I'm paying 15 bucks for a salad it better more or less take care of my lunch. I cannot have sandwiches because I have celiac and cannot consume any wheat or other glutenous grains, which also excludes anything breaded (life falafel, in one of the salads) or croutons, or breaded chicken (in another salad); so I would love to see some salads including simple protein like hard-boiled eggs, tuna or other seafood, grilled chicken. To be fair however, they also have soups, curry and quinoa salad, so it's not like anyone will go hungry once they set foot in here :-) All in all a great addition to the station!

Note: the soup sizes don't read 'small' and 'large' on the menu board. The restaurant is…read morerelatively small and when we came around 9 am on a Friday, it was pretty full so we opted to sit at the bar countertop. My brother got a bacon omelette which he was not particularly impressed with and said he could make the same quality at home. I got the hangover brekkie which consisted of a pile of potato wedges smothered in cheese, a fried egg, 2 slices of bacon, a sausage, and herb cream cheese. This.... was so incredibly heavy - I love potatoes but couldn't only eat half of it. Part of it is because the chef puts the entire plate into like the microwave/oven once everything is plated so the cheese hardens too quickly and the potato wedges were mouth burning hot the entire meal. Even 15 min in, I was burning my mouth on them. The sausage also had an unusual texture and taste to it, I guess I'm used to American sausages but it just did not fit my palette. Also cream cheese is a strange pairing with this dish, something like ranch would have been better. The only redeeming quality was the bacon was perfectly crisp. The cappuccino Dihei was just the boost of caffeine I needed but when I read orange zest as part of the ingredients, I was expecting like finely grated orange, not a thick slice of orange peel hanging off of the cup.

Zürich is just a quite expensive place (and that's coming from me, being Swiss myself). One of the more affordable options is this restaurant / Café on a sub-level in the Zurich Train Station. There are some nice seats and tables, but also some massive wodden tables with benches. It was quite packed that day, so the bench it was. Not too comfortable if you stay a while. The menu was quite interesting (all-day breakfast) and in the end we went for one Prosciutto Panini (Ham), a Pastrami Panini, scrambled eggs with bacon and toast and a Beef Burger with fries. Some water and beer with. The panini set us back 10 CHF and 12 CHF (for a small one), the eggs with sides 10 CHF and the Burger 17 CHF PLUS 5 CHF for the fries. The Panini were a bit of a disappointment. Quite small (even for a small serving) and there wasn't really any meat inside. The Pastrami got nothing to do with the true original american Pastrami. The eggs with bacon were fine...but 10 bucks for a small bowl of breakfast. Oh well. The Burger was quite good. Patty had a nice flavour, good meat quality, a bit small though. The Burger itself was a bit of a dry affair. But the fries were nice, hot and crispy. A decent meal. But - together with fries - 22 bucks is on the top end. Beer was nice and cold, 7 bucks for half a litre...that's fine. Food-wise not a great spot. The best was definitely the Burger, presentation was nice as well. The other items we wouldn't order again. Service was very friendly though and our dog was welcome as well. All in all it's still an ok place to grab a quick bite...other places even cost more. There's always the big chains of course (the King and the Clown....), but sometimes you wanna try something else. And for that, this place was ok. But just.
