Cooler with beers, soda and non-alcoholic beers

Amazing that a place like this caters to vegans and not just one or two items on the Menu that can be adjusted to make it vegan, a special menu is vegan - apps, mains and desserts! Vegan Guacamole and Chips - the guacamole tasted factory made and not house made and too smooth and bit more tangy for our taste. Chips are good. Vegan Hot Chik'n Sandwich - amazing burger, loved the thickness of it and freshly fried. The coating was super crunchy perfectly golden brown. The fries fresh and perfectly crisp outside and soft inside. Wish there was more of it. Vegan Mongolian Fried Chik'n Sandwich - well, both burgers really. The same Chik'n patty, really great but with different toppings. A bit sweeter for our taste. The Chik'n patty was the star. Vegan Faux Tacos as a meal with three tacos, comes with fries. Again same patty cut into individual strips and fried, perhaps making look like fish, but not. The strips tasted amazing in a taco as well. The pico de gallo OK. The bottled Ginger Beer OK and virgin Raspberry Lemonade good. The waitress was kind to bring out a complimentary mini Vegan Beertown Brownie - amazing - must have it on the next visit. Yes, we are for sure visiting again, perhaps for their vegan brunch. Can't wait.

While the food is only okay, the real star of the show here is an extensive beer list, well-organized so you can find a pint that appeals to your palate. Typical chain restaurant service and casual vibe. Decent kids menu that satisfied the kids and let us enjoy another beer or two.

Chicken and Waffles

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't that busy. We were a group of 8 though so my friend reserved seating in advanced but there were a good amount of seats available. The menu is digital through a QR code and the prices were pretty affordable for the big portions. I got the sangria and it was huge but mainly juice - I'm a lightweight and only felt maybe a small buzz from the entire drink. The food was delicious. I got the chicken and waffles and the chicken was crisy and juicy. I would have preferred a little less syrup on the waffles as it was heavily sweet, but it was still good. My friends all recommended their potatoes/home fries as a side. The staff were super friendly and upbeat. The washrooms had shower head faucets which were kind of weird when you use it but at least the gentle pressure felt nice on the hands. Parking should be a breeze since it shares the large parking lot at the plaza.

So typically when I go to a chain restaurant I'm not usually expecting to be wowed... There are a lot of delicious chain restaurants but this one is definitely in the top-tier! A friend of mine recommended it as we were down in Guelph doing back to school shopping for the kids and I'm very glad that he did! It was a very busy place yet we did not wait in the line to be seated and our server was very friendly and very prompt with our service. A massive selection of craft beers to choose from I felt obligated to try a couple flights, the first flight I was very well aware of the companies and the beers I was drinking but the second flight took me by surprise with some delicious IPAs that reminded me of my love for the style of beer... At a place called Beertown you would think that's where the excitement would end but you would be absolutely wrong as the food was incredible! The appetizers arrived only about five minutes from us ordering them and after sampling what came out I got very excited about the entrées which were just as amazing! If you bundle great service, cool atmosphere, delicious cold beer and amazing food, I'd say you definitely have a winner! Thanks Beertown! Zeke

In the USA, different states had different liquor laws. In California, I could buy wine, beer and…read morehard liquor at grocery stores and drug stores. In Minnesota and Oregon, I could buy wine and beer at grocery stores, but liquors were purchased at licensed liquor stores. I'm still getting used to Ontario, where one can buy wine at 'wine shops', either stand-alone or in certain grocery stores (separate from the rest of the store), beer at 'The Beer Store', or everything at the LCBO. Heck, I'm nothing if not adaptable. On the wine side of things: I like the way the LCBO has organized the wines by region. So far, the local wines fall into two categories for me: affordable but not really drinkable, and drinkable but not really affordable. Which leaves me with imports, which aren't that affordable after paying for importation and -- oh yeah -- the egregious taxes here. Liquor selection: OMG, where the heck is the TEQUILA?! The best stuff they have is Patron Silver! I got so spoiled at Trebol, with somewhere between 80-100 high-end tequilas, and developed such a palate for it... good thing I don't really have the time to drink, these days. *Sigh.* Maybe some kind soul in the U.S. will take pity on us and send us something decent for Christmas...? At least they have Bulleit bourbon, because I haven't liked the Canadian whiskeys I've tried. I miss the Oregon locals: 12 Bridges gin, Crater Lake vodka, all of the beautiful SakeOne sakes... to say nothing of the delicious and affordable local wines and craft beers. Beer, which I didn't learn to love until I moved to Oregon, microbrew capital of the continent, has become a highly limited experience here. Mostly, there are lagers in cans. Yuk. So far, the Stone Hammer dark ale, the Wellington special pale ale, and the Harvest 'taste of Ontario' all meet my standards, but you can't get those just anywhere. (You can get them at Borealis... which is just another reason we end up there so often.) Even the LCBO selection is limited: of the beers I just listed, only the Wellington SPA is available. And then, on the back wall, on the top shelf... Aha! Is that an old friend I spy? It is! Come to mama, Rogue hazelnut ale! Wait, what's this I see? A price tag of... TWELVE DOLLARS?! Really? *Sigh.* I just cannot justify it, and sadly put it back. Being a loquacious beast, I talk about the terrible sorrow of the twelve-dollar beer at the checkout stand. "Twelve dollars?" Asks the woman helping us (Cynthia). "That cannot be right." And she calls the manager over about it, even though I didn't ask; he shrugs and wanders off. She gets annoyed with him, and grabs someone else to do a proper price check -- it's only SIX dollars! Huzzah! I get to go home with my prize -- thank you, Cynthia. That kind of service really deserves to be rewarded; one of the stars above is for you specifically. I'd love to see you promoted to manager!
