The couple owns and operates a 100 goat farm in Sharon Springs and sources goat milk from other US farms to produce the full product line. Their retail store here is beautifully designed and well stocked. I was completely unfamiliar with this brand but it apparently has quite a following. Super super cute place! I heard about their rose apothecary pop up years ago but never made it here because I live in Atlanta. This year we were in town for my son's baseball tournament and guess what is between Cooperstown and the Albany airport? This place!! I was so happy it was literally on the way to the airport and highly recommend a pit stop here on your way in or out of the Albany airport. This shop is like a NYC shop in the middle of a small town. So trendy, so swanky, so open and airy. I wanted to buy everything but was flying so I selected some face wash items and tried some soaps in the big sink in the back. I used to live in the area and have known of the Beekman Boys for years, before they made face products and just had soap and lotion. I've always supported them because of their back story (very sweet and worth looking into). I no longer live in the area but make a special trip during my vacations back to the area. I've always loved walking into the store, being greeted kindly, and shopping all their beautiful products. I have to say, I was really disappointed this time. I was greeted by a woman who was helping another couple. Explored the front portion first, coming across single use sheet mask for $16 (yikes). The back room used to be full of their products, even having cheese to purchase. There was the side table with a few products on it and the rest of the shelves were just stocked with more of their Wicked sets. Really disappointed in the variety this time. I walked up the register and not once did the lady look up at me, maybe having a bad day or something because prior to that they were in the back room chatting about their time cards. All of my past visits she's been so personable so it was just another part of the overall disappointment of the store. Last time I visited we had such a nice conversation and I looked forward to it again. I wasn't even asked for my phone number for rewards, despite a sign being in front of the register and she's the one to sign me up prior. The overall emptiness of the store and not unkind but not the same level of service I've received prior makes the visit out to the store seemingly not worth it for me. We came during a pretty busy afternoon when they were doing brisk business. After trying lots of samples, we couldn't help but buy something before heading out the door. You've goat to be kidding me. I challenge you to find an Upstate NY success story that's as cool and interesting as the Beekman 1802 brand, and the fabulous boys behind it, Dr. Brent Ridge, and Josh Kilmer-Purcell. Beekman 1802 was founded in 2008, but they actually consider themselves to be a 211-year-old company, and that really excites the history geek in me. When the co-founders stumbled across the 200-year old Beekman Farm in upstate New York, they had no plans to create a business around it, they just saw it as a country home to escape weekend in NYC, but then they started making goat milk soaps and gourmet cheeses in 2008 to survive the Great Recession, and one thing led to another... today, they rival brands like Martha Stewart and Magnolia, and they're not done yet! In fact, I'd argue that Beekman 1802 is single handedly responsible for putting Sharon Springs back on the map! It's true, the Beekman brand was built on goats, but it's also founded on the principal of being neighborly and kind to each other, and in today's climate, that's a philosophy worth embracing. The owners live and breath this philosophy, and have done so much to help their own neighbors in Schoharie County it's truly remarkable. For example, they made a tomato sauce, called it, "The Mortgage Lifter," it retailed at Target, and part of the proceeds went back to local farmers in their community to help with financial overhead - i.e. mortgage. What a concept! I've been a Beekman 1802 fan for years, but there's no better time than now to write this review, as the Beekman 1802 Boys are just winding down from an insanely successful marketing promotion, where they took things to the next-level. Most recently, transformed their Beekman 1802 Mercantile into a version of the Rose Apothecary pop up shop to promote the final season of the TV show, "Schitt's Creek." Granted, the pop up. They created products and packaging to reflect brands that might be sold in Rose Apothecary, and they might have already won 2020 with that stunt. You see, the Beekman Boys' story is eerily similar to the Rose Family story in the fictionalized TV show, "Schitt's Creek," -- from the classic fish out of water shtik, crazy mayors, Eugene Levy lookalikes, to the storyline where David launches, "Rose Apothecary," a high end boutique partnering with local makers to make soaps, lip balm, cheese, wine... In fact there is so much overlap between the TV show and the real life story, trials, and tribulations of the Beekman Boys that I'd be willing to bet my bottom dollar that these guys are on the production team! Sure, the Rose Apothecary pop up will come and go, but Beekman 1802 will always be my happy place. I love taking rides out to Sharon Springs in any season to visit the Mercantile, have lunch at the Black Cat Café, where they whip up the best curry chicken salad I've ever had, and appreciate all that the Beekman 1802 brand has done for its community. read more

What a stunning little store. I've been a fan of the Beekman Boys since their TV show aired back in 2010. When friends moved to a small town about an hour away, we were thrilled to find out that Sharon Springs was having a little festival the same weekend we were visiting. Their minimalist and classy style is heavily translated in their branding. I immediately fell in love with their goat milk soap. And my niece fell in love with an orange blossom scent, so I purchased a gift set with 3 of the smaller soaps to distribute to her and the girls in the family. They also offer food products, so I enjoyed tastings of different jams and cheeses. Well worth a visit and their staff are bubbly and friendly. read more

I've followed the saga of Josh and Brent well enough to know I'd like their products, and I have their Heirloom Dessert cookbook too. I already like goat's milk products, such as soap and cheese, and I'm always glad to see heirloom tomatoes promoted, such as in their sauces. The fact that their Mortgage Lifter products raise money for a good cause means their store exudes even more gravity on me, even living 3 counties away. The store has an heirloom feel about it, very nicely laid out, plenty of room to stroll around, information to read, samples to try, pictures, etc., and most important, a great and helpful staff. I was drawn like a fly (or maybe a bee???) to the honeys available to try. One of my friends likes to put the rosemary honey on pork. Fun stop if you are in or near the area Staff are wonderful and certainly very proud and excited about their products. Finished XMas shopping and restocked our supplies in 35 minutes. One product we wanted they were out of but bent over backwards to make sure it would delivered to us and threw in a smaller size as gift to tide my Wife over. The design consideration that went into creating the space at Beekman is incredible. The atmosphere when you walk in is luxurious, and you pay the price for that. That being said, I think the experience and quality of the products are worth that occasional splurge. I'm the opposite of a bar soap person, but I was given one of their bars and wow, truly a treat. I might even purchase it again for myself. I also picked up a bottle of their balsamic drizzle when I was there and some goat cheese. Delicious. Can not recommend enough. If you skip out on the food samples in the back, you aren't doing your trip correctly. While obviously I don't think any of these products are a necessity, visiting the Mercantile was a fun day trip and these are really nice for gifts or just a little personal pick me up. Treat your self! Also, if you want to grab a bite while you're in the area, HIGHLY recommend the American Hotel across the street. read more

3.5 stars. As someone who was born and raised nearby, I don't buy into the Beekman hype so much. Two affluent New Yorkers making a go at "country life" and parlaying it into more wealth and commercial success doesn't seem so inspirational when you see how local farmers without such privilege struggle just for survival -- not glory, fame, or money. That said, the store is handsome and aspirational. The Beekman boys have taste to spare and this is reflected in the packaging and curation of their products. (And I'm sure the corporate sponsorships certainly don't hurt.) I will admit, shopping here can feel like a guilty pleasure but some of the products are quite nice. The soaps and lotions smell great and the balsamic drizzles are tasty. I believe that many of the soaps are actually made by McGillicuddy's right down the street and most of the other offerings are actually locally produced and then repackaged under the Beekman at a high premium. I recommend that savvy shoppers check out some more local businesses as well as Beekman. read more

Front label says 'goat milk soap" but ingredients say differently; There are SEVEN other ingredients before you finally come to any goat milk content; Read the label (Ingredients, by law, have to listed in the order of content of the product): SODIUM PALMATE, SODIUM COCOATE, and or PALM KERNELATE, WATER (AQUA), GLYCERIN, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM), TITANIUM DIOXIDE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, Caprae Lac (Goat Milk), etc, If you like all these other ingredients, then you may be happy, but please don't be fooled by the 'neighbors boys',,,,, READ WHAT'S actually in there. My grandma loves these Brent and Josh and watches them every time on the shopping channel. She's been talking about Sharon Springs and seeing the store and farm with the goats for a year now. When we decided to go to NYC, I told her we would take her to Sharon Springs. Beekmans main seller is their goat soap. We all use it now. It's great soap. They also now have other products from goat milk. Sharon springs is a small cute little town with about 500 people. I should know the story because I've heard my grandma talking about it a dozen times, but apparently everyone helped them and Farmer John when they started out with selling the goat soap. Fall is off season, I guess. We weren't able to see the goats and tour the farm. Only in Spring and Summer. Brent and Josh weren't in town, they were doing a show on Evine. My grandma was disappointed with that, but at least got to see the town and store. She also got an email from Brent saying sorry they missed her. They have everything in the store. Started out with goat soap and now they have everything from soaps to jelly. You can get it cheaper on the shopping channel, fyi. Just glad I took her to see the town and store. read more

I have never in my life felt the need to write a negative review until my experience with this company. I left a one-star review on the website after I received the Pure Goat milk lotion and it had a completely different ingredient list than the site advertised. THEY REMOVED MY REVIEW. The ingredient list was entirely different from the site's, missing key ingredients, and had SIGNIFICANTLY less goat milk than advertised. In fact, the lotion was mostly shea butter. I paid $20 for a product advertised as goat milk lotion; if I wanted a shea butter lotion I could get one at Walmart for a couple of bucks. And I'm lucky I wasn't allergic to any of the added ingredients. This is false advertising, DANGEROUS, and I'm appalled at this dishonest company, especially after seeing other reviews complaining of the same thing to no effect. This is a VERY DISHONEST business that markets itself as being different. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do not waste your money here. UPDATE: The company refunded me almost immediately after complaining in an email (mentioning an FTC complaint) and saying they had no idea how the ingredient lists were different, even though there is literally a review here from a few months ago complaining of the same thing, and they have replied to reviews after that one. So they obviously know exactly what they are doing and just banking on people not noticing. SHADY SHADY SHADY company. Please do not waste your money on anything from them. They said they would fix the ingredient list but nothing as of yet. I would not trust any of their products. I'm sure they are selling cheaper products than advertised for other items as well. I encourage everyone to check the ingredient lists on their products and compare them to what is advertised on the website. They won the Amazing Race in 2012&married June the following year. Ridge&Purcell had Sharon Springs, once a tourist area in the 19th century for its natural springs, spring back to life. Brent&Josh have an amazing array of products, from goat's milk cheese, to cookbooks, to seed growing kits. While their green chile salsa is meh (it calls to mind that old Pace ad which mocked "salsa made in New York City" with their motto "grab life by the bottle") and their heirloom pasta sauces are as pricey as that from Rao's, the NYC establishment that's an exclusive celebrity hangout. Their standout products- Harvest Pumpkin Spice Chili Seasoning- While Pumpkin Spice Lattes are seasonal, this brings pumpkin spice to chili year around. It's unique, and that's its strength. Sunrise Buttermilk Pancake&Waffle Mix- It's superior to the "just add water" pancake mixes. It's versatile. I've made mocha pancakes adding cocoa&brewed coffee. You wish Josh&Brent had a B&B at their place, it's that good. 5 Pepper Salsa- It's kicky. Who said that New Yorkers can't make salsa? This past weekend just so happened to be the Sharon Springs Victorian Holiday Celebration, imagine a quaint town with a buzzing Main Street with everyone dressed in turn of the century garb. Yes this really happened. Both Brent and Josh could be found on the porch or in the store helping and chatting with both the locals and out of towners. Everything in the store was gorgeously displayed for customers from the year of soap collection to the handmade pillows. It was so hard restraining myself from purchasing everything in the store. You can tell that each product was created and developed with love and appreciation of the land. It's amazing what they have contributed to the community, both in Sharon Springs and back-to-basics (or farm?) foodies. Took a day trip to Sharon springs, it's not anyplace you would just drive to unless you had a purpose or knowledge of what is in Sharon springs. But you must take this trip, one of two place that are open during the day is beekman 1802 general store. It's a great store that the beekman boys open to showcase their wears, such as bath and beauty products made of goats milk from the beekman mansion farm, also there is food products and homemade goats cheese, and on the 2nd floor textiles and home goods. The products are a little expensive, but the ingredients are all natural and local based. And the best part of this place is the young lady that is filled with knowledge about the sleepy town and the beekman mansion and farm. So take a day trip and hit Sharon springs before or after you head to Cooperstown. read more

Every single member of their staff was helpful, very knowledgeable and friendly. The store is beautifully staged and well stocked. A great deal of their merchandise is locally sourced and created specifically for Beekman 1802. From home decor to amazing skin care products (utilizing goats milk from local Farmer John) to tasty jams, syrups, and cheese (also sourced from the goats) to their famous goat poop (seriously the best tasting poop around...NOT derived from their goats), all of your senses will be satisfied. I made Beekman 1802 the destination for my summer mini break vacation, and could not have been more pleased. The store was beautifully arranged, pleasant and relaxing. Kat and Anna were especially helpful, pointing out new items, and explaining some of the history. The creams, soaps and jellies are my favorites, and the new laundry and cleaning products are healthy and safe. I loved my visit. read more

I ordered one of their lip balms and when I received it the product looked like it was used. The lip balm was up above the top of the container and has marks on it like it was used. When I contacted customer service I was told it wasn't a used product and sometimes the machine does funny things and sometimes they even send out empty tubes because of the machine not filling them! I was offered a replacement and accepted but it wouldn't go out until Monday so I sent an email explaining I'd rather have a refund because of this issue and also because they send you a 15% off coupon "off your first order" after it's been placed. Makes no sense. They refunded my $1.20. I never heard back from customer service but got an email saying they shipped another tube of lip balm after I requested they didn't! Like many, we followed Brent and Josh on their TV show. I always thought how nice it would be to visit their store. When we found ourselves in the area, we tried some of their samples and were blown away. Fudge sauce, honey, all of it was good. We stocked up! When we began to run low, we made an excuse to get back out there and stocked up again! Shipping is fast when you order online and they even replaced an item that appeared to have a defective pump when I received it. Great customer service, wonderful products and the perfect excuse to put Sharon Springs on your travel route if you find yourself even within 2-3 hours of the place.
