Bad service when I was here, staff were quite rude and the food we waited for was cold. Don't recommend this place

Lively restaurant next to our hotel in Portsmouth. Lots of nice French dishes. Tried the Fish Soup…read moreas a starter. The cheese comes on the side so you can proportion the amount you want. The soup was great. Not overly fishy at all. Light and tasty. Then had trout. Wonderfully prepared with water cress of all things. A unique and innovative recipe. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise.

You will find this restaurant in the outlet mall complex, just outside the main buildings. Bustling…read moreand lively dining room, even on a weekday evening. The waitstaff were quite accommodating and seated us at the only table that had an outlet for charging, per my request. It's one of those fancy open style kitchen places where you can see the chefs shouting at each other and dinging the little bell for service. My raspberry tonic mocktail was quite good, but the zest mocktail was much more refreshing. The Malabar fish curry was pretty good, a Thai red curry style of sauce with a cod piece in it. It tasted fresh, so so far I was happy. But the menu says prawns as well, as in plural, more than one. But there was only one prawn in my bowl. Should I have made a complaint about the semantic scam? Maybe, but they always make it seem like you're the idiot, is my experience. I liked their take on a fish curry, it comes with white rice and shaved crunchy coconut flakes. The dessert menu had nuts in every single dessert, which is not good if you rely on an epi-pen for such ingredients. I was offered the pleasure to have the cheese platter for the cost of a weekly grocery bill - Eeh, no thanks. The waitress agreed the dessert menu is crap and kindly offered a complimentary scoop of ice cream.

I visit every Tuesday evening with my 5 year old boy after his karate club as a treat. We order at…read morethe bar, before siting in the front area to the side of the bar as you don't need to book. Today, we sat in our usual spot but the place was very busy. Half way through our meal, the most rude and unpleasant man (Jack) approached the table and in a loud voice for the benefit of the whole restaurant, said that we had not booked and were siting in the wrong place. The table was quite some way apart from the restaurant, the other side of the enterance area, and next to the bar. That area was not clear at all to be a part of the restaurant opposite. We had been told to order at the bar and it in that area. Instead of politely telling us we had sat in a satellite area of the restaurant to eat our carvery and being offering help to move. He approached in an aggressive manner and told us, we were not allowed to sit there and had 15 minutes to finish our food and leave. No explanation, no offer to help us relocate. When I politely explained that we always sat there and did not know it was part of the restaurant, and were half way through our meals, he became even more aggressive and told us, we had 15 minutes or he would be calling the police to have both myself and my 5 year old child " forcibly removed from the restaurant" My son was very scared and did not want the rest of his dinner, so we left. Imagine threatening a small child that he would be forcibly removed if he took more than 15 minutes to eat his dinner.... We were so shocked. Advertised as family friendly but I believe Jack should be nowhere near small children.
