We were meandering around this pretty awesome and ancient place quickly wilting under the oppressive sun. Imagine it's near 93 million miles away and still bakes our world.
This central place looked quirky and I was attracted by their pot of tea, jam, butter, scone and clotted cream deal at £5.95. It was a fiercely hot afternoon, over 33c in this 'green and pleasant land' in July 2022.
There's a similar deal offered with a savoury cheese scone also at this price.
My wife opted for a cappuccino and we shared the year's supply of cholesterol on a plate between us.
I was asked if I wanted a plain or fruit scone and opted for fruit.
We paid upfront (£8.85) and sat outside to sizzle. They have free WiFi but the walls are so thick that it doesn't work at the outside tables.
The staff were friendly. Everything was faultless - the scone was perfectly delicious. The clotted cream moreish and the strawberry jam delightful. The tea pot delivered two generous cups of tea. All in all just scrummy. Some days are diamond. read more
