Beechnut insists on "doggie standards of behavior" that no dog can meet. If they downgrade your dog, after years of faithful service, your dog is "banished." I think that older, larger dogs get the worst of the treatment. My dog will not return. read more

My puppy is excited to go to day care every time! He's happy, socialized with other dogs and humans, and gets the exercise he needs. I don't know what I would do without it. The staff is fantastic. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Recently moving to the area and trying to find a kennel that you can trust is a challenge. Took a chance and so glad I did. They do a trial day to see if your pet can fit in, which I appreciate. Mid day you get an update of how they are doing. They require vet records and your pet to have a flu shot in order to be boarded there. I have been pleased with their updates. They have a website and you as a customer can have your own online account. Managing reservations through the portal is helpful. My pets come home tired at the end of the day!! This is by far the best kennel in the Annapolis area. I have two dogs that we board here 2-3 times a year. They are very reasonable priced and caring. I love the fact that my dogs get to play with other dogs. They are absolutely exhausted when they come back home. I feel like they get a vacation when we go on vacation. On two separate occasions, one of my dogs needed vet care while they were there. Just this past week the staff at Beechnut noticed my older dog needing to urinate several times an hour with very little excretion. They called me right away and after discussion I agreed she should go to the vet. No questions asked, no extra charges to take her there - just great caring service. And as they guessed - she had a urinary tract infection. They then called me after the vet visit to provide me with an update and reassure me everything was ok. I won't board my dogs anywhere else. I'm giving them one star because my dog came back without fleas and one star because my dog came back alive. Not impressed overall. I was traveling to the Chesapeake for a family reunion and chose Beechnut because a friend recommended it. My friend has a German Shepard mix, and the most interesting detail that she shared was that the staff kept her dog in the office instead of in the kennels because she was stressed. Sounded like a great place. This didn't happen for my dog. My first issue: they are absolutely inflexible about their "induction." I had to travel to MD two days early so that the staff could assess my dog. I had to pay for a day of doggie day care. And their findings were something I could have told them on the phone: my dog doesn't like other strange dogs. In fact, I told them that one the phone when I booked the boarding. When I arrived, I was unimpressed with the tone of the staff. They seemed to be college kids on summer break who couldn't care less. They didn't seem friendly or interested in my dog of the fact that I drive from TX to drop my dog off. This place also has a mandatory bath rule. You pay for a bath, regardless. My dog came back to me filthy. The bath apparently happened on the day before and he had diarrhea, which they didn't clean off of him. We didn't realize how filthy he was until about a half hour after we picked him up. They also handed back his bed which had diarrhea stains all over it. My dog usually weighs 10 pounds and came back to me at 8 pounds. I'm wondering what happened to him when he was there and hope to get the word out. This place wasn't a good fit for my dog. read more

When we moved to Edgewater we were worried that we wouldn't find a great local place that provided both doggie daycare and overnight stays for our extremely active Chocolate Lab. We were beyond happy when we visited Beechnut and met the staff in particular, the manager Melissa. This isn't just a paycheck to her, she really cares about animals and continues educating herself by attending classes about various pet issues. Our dog is tireless and when they told me to expect my dog to be exhausted at the end of his stay during daycare I laughed at the thought and even challenged this statement. Afterall, when he is home with me, we go out about every 2 hours to play fetch and he usually gets long walks twice a day. Well I was so wrong. The best part of this operation is that the dogs have human contact for most of their stay. The staff is always out playing with the pets, so my dog gets a ball thrown to him for a good part of the day. That is nirvana for my retriever. He lives and breathes to play fetch and they oblige. For three days of day care per week, we pay $40 bucks. A drop in the bucket for the assurance we get knowing our dog is having the time of his life socializing with other dogs and playing fetch. That sure beats the alternative: home alone sleeping his life away. They are very concerned that all dogs are up on their vaccinations, and group the pets based upon personalities and compatibility. Beechnut has baby pools in the hot summer months, and indoor areas during the winter. We love this place and so does our pup! read more

I absolutely love Beechnut Kennel. Like most pet owners, our Shiloh is one of our top priorities. Shes' our kid and she's considered family so having a trusted place that takes care of her while we are out of town is priceless. I could write a lot about how much I like this kennel but I'll try to make it brief and stay on points. Facilities: Their facilities are clean and well kept. Your dog will stay in a kennel with heated tiles and a door to go outdoors. They have plenty of space in the yard so your baby will have space to run around and play. Shiloh gets a little bit of anxiety so I asked them to be able to come in to her kennel where she was going to stay and set it up for her (with a shirt with our smell and her toys) and they were very accommodating and understanding. Honesty/Reliability: The first time we boarded Shiloh with them was the first time she was ever boarded so I was very nervous and called them 5 days into her stay. When I asked how she was doing they told me she was little shy the first couple of days and stayed to herself but she was a little bit more comfortable by then which is exactly what I expected from her. I appreciated the fact that they gave me an honest answer and they didn't tell me she had made a bunch of friends because I would have known that's not my doggie. Also, this last Christmas, Shiloh got really sick the night before we were supposed to board her and we had to take her to vet that night. The following day we were supposed to drop her off and leave and we just didn't feel right about it so we had to cancel her appointment and our trip and when we called Beechnut they were very understanding and they just asked for a note from the vet. Price: They are very affordable compared to the rest of the DMV area. Yes, they are far and you have to plan for that but they are worth the trip. read more

I had a great experience taking my puppy to Beechnut for the first time. We boarded our puppy for a week and it was so nice to not worry whether she was safe or having a good time. It was really important to me that she would have plenty of playtime and that she wouldn't just be placed in a cage for several days. I chose Beechnut based on the positive reviews and their socialization method. We took our puppy in for a trial day prior to boarding her. During the trial day, we received a few photos and a report card that described her behavior during daycare, which really put us at ease. Throughout boarding, Beechnut posts photos on Facebook every day so we were able to see how she was doing and who she was playing with. Our puppy came back happy, healthy, bathed, and nails clipped (extra charge, but worth it for us)! They have a convenient online portal so you can manage your dog's profile and reservations. Any staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful. We will bring her back in the future. read more

I am very disappointed in this facility. I dropped my senior, blind dog off for his trial. I was encouraged when I first spoke with the staff because they had another blind dog there. I thought they would know who to handle another one. I was wrong. Within 1 hr. and 15 mins. of my dog being there, they called me to tell me that he was doing great but because he was blind and seemed stressed they didn't think he would be a good fit. He had to be tethered to them so he would not get lost. They said when he was inside that he was shaking from hearing the dogs bark. Funny he gets groomed every other month and does fine with barking dogs in the kennels while he is there all day long. They said when he went out in group play that he would not come when called, did not interact with dogs, just sat there and if another dog or human brushed up against him, he would flinch. Of course he would, he is blind and doesn't know what is brushing up against him. At home he walks the perimeter of the yard, barks at neighbors and lays in the grass. How do you expect a blind dog to learn the layout of your facility in 1 hr. and 15 mins.? I wanted to take him a few times a month until he got familiar with the layout and then planned to use them for boarding. When I said this to the manager, she said that I told them I had other caregivers for him and that I was just going to use them for backup. What? Do you not want the business? If your dog doesn't adjust within an hour, don't waste your time because the facility doesn't want to be bothered with work. read more

We've used Beechnut for Doggy Daycare and Boarding for our energetic, but slightly anxious, 3 year old pup. He is super excited when we pull into the drive and I can barely get him back into the car to go home at the end of the day--he wants to stay and play! Definitely a great daycare experience. We were equally pleased with the boarding experience. It was our first time boarding our dog, so we were all a little nervous. The staff at Beechnut were very patient with my endless questions, and very reassuring when I called to check on our dog over the long weekend. When I picked him up, they let me know that he wasn't eating much his first day, so they mixed rice and cooked chicken in with his food every evening to make sure he was eating properly. I was so appreciative of the extra attention and thought Beechnut put into taking care of our pup. We will continue to use both the daycare and boarding services and I have spread the word to our friends. Such wonderful staff and a great facility!! read more

I have been using Beechnut for my Boston Terrier for almost 2 yrs and except for their forgetting baths & nail clipping have been pleased with the level of service. I always made a point to bring the employees something from wherever we went. I recently got another 6 month old Boston that is a show dog. I was extremely disappointed that I could not board my new puppy because he is not fixed. I understand the hormone issue, however don't understand why they can't keep him in his room with my other Boston I know someone that has a non-friendly Jack Russell & thats what Beechnut does for them. I adopted my dog, Max, out of a rescue in October 2015. After our first visit to Muddy Creek Animal Hospital, it became obvious that Max had some trauma. He had extreme fear of strangers, separation anxiety, anxiety/aggression issues around other dogs, etc. Poor guy had bounced around different homes and also had some doggie PTSD so it was understandable. The VT at Muddy Creek recommended Beechnut Kennels and Meagan (PC Manager) very highly; that they had worked successfully with another rescue dog with a traumatic past similar to Max's. I called Beechnut/Meagan and coordinated a Temperament test for Max to see if he could be a candidate for daycare at their facility. Thankfully he passed! (just barely probably...) So for the last 2-something years I've been bringing Max to Beechnut daycare 3-5 days per week and he has made tremendous progress with his social skills! Melissa, Meagan and all of the staff there really seem to love him and he has become an integral member of their family (or so it appears to me as dog dad...) I highly recommend Beechnut (5 stars) and believe that its the best dog facility in the Anne Arundel/greater Annapolis area (my .02, I worked at a competitor in my youth and prefer Beechnut so take that fwiw...) read more

I have a 2 year old rescue German Shepherd (who sticks to me like velcro) and have only had her about 5 months. She was terrified of people, especially men, including some that spend a fair amount of time at my house. Since she is so fearful of humans, I made the decision to board her to ensure her safety instead of having a friend come stay at my house. I called Beechnut on a Thursday, intending to board her Sunday night. I explained my work situation and they were extremely accommodating and let me come in Thursday afternoon to do the behavioral evaluation prior to boarding. The staff were able to get her to engage with them and play with the other dogs. When I dropped her off on Sunday morning, she was very anxious and whining and freaking out, and I was incredibly nervous because I had never left her for more than 14 hours before. By the time I got home, they called me just to let me know she settled out and Monday afternoon they called me just to give me an update and even said they would be willing to stay late if I couldn't make it there by 6pm. They had earned her trust to the point that she was seeking staff out for attention and cuddles. When I got there to pick her up, she was excited to see me and I could tell that she was tired but in a good way. If I could give Beechnut more than 5 stars, I would! read more

Such a great facility!! I have a very skid-dish German Shepherd. I was very skeptical about bringing her to a kennel because she had never been before. I took a tour of the facility and I loved it right away. The staff is so nice and understanding. I dropped my pup off for her first time at daycare and they took such great care of her! I have worked with dogs since I was old enough to work. If it's a position involving dogs, you name it, I've done it. I finally settled on grooming as a career, so naturally I own a little dog myself. I work long hours to accommodate our clients dropping off in the morning before work and picking up by 5:00 PM during the week. So at least 2 days a week, she visits Beechnut. The other 3 she comes to work with me, but is crated. The days she comes home from Beechnut she is so tuckered out and content. She gets so excited when she realizes where we are as I am pulling into the driveway. She loves to go play with her friends (canine and human, I'm sure) and spend the day romping around in the fresh air. Which makes for a much less stressful day for me at work, knowing she is having fun in the sun (or shade). I love the fact that everyone knows her there, and treats her sweetly. They aren't any hidden fees as they are all inclusive. Their daycare prices are a little higher than a few resorts I've checked, but for comfort, convenience, and peace of mind...it's worth it. read more
