We spent a great deal of time on the phone and email and when the dust settled, we rented one of their cabins and, through their own recommendation, one of their competitors' nearby cabins to fit our large group. On top of this, they recommended us two restaurants (Yelp! review coming soon...) and our loding accomodations were both perfect. Blue Ridge For Rent has a "go straight to the house" to get the keys policy, which saved us time, unlike the last trip we took, and their booking system and check-out instructions were simple. No complaints and would recommend to everyone!

Upon entering check in was quick and easy. Our dog was welcomed and we could get any room (not special animal rooms) Our room had a wonderful view of the mountains. The room wasn't all that big but it had everything you needed for short or long stays. Full sized refrigerator, microwave,dish washer, cook top, coffee maker and all your dishes and utensils. (Missing anything just ask the front desk) **** they didn't clean our room- we were gone 8am-4 pm- i had to hunt down a member of the cleaning crew for new towels. *****floor in shower really slippery and mold growing. I used the gym equipment was new and plenty of room. Pool looked nice- we didn't use (went fishing instead) Lots of nice seating in front and back of building, dog walking areas We used the grills outside- big Weber grills- we had are our own utensils- they do have some if you need them. **** smoking station outside of main doors- yuck- you have to walk through the smoke to get in building and it is by where you eat. Breakfast was good plenty of options, coffee and tea all day even non-dairy creamer options!

We really liked to rent from moms/pops and the cabin setting more so we decided to try Willow Valley when I saw the listing from Interval International. As much as I was expecting cozy and relaxing time with my family for 6 days, it turned out to be a very stressful and quite a shock how careless the management here. Checked in to a Cabin and thought it was cute and cozy but quite concerned the fact that we had informed the reservation we have disabled veteran but the entry to in-cabin stairs were very steep, especially in the cabin. Next thing my son is screaming "there's rat poop on the bed!!" and sure enough- mouse feces all over the bed and the floor. To ruin the evening we had positive attitude trying to understand and be optimistic. We started stripping the blanket, and pillow covers to wash it then ALL the pillows had brownish-yellow stains. We brought only one 3 oz of laundry detergent not expecting we would do blanket and linen laundry on our first day there. When we turn on the shower to wash off our travels- the water was brown- coming out of the shower head. We had to run it for a while to clear out. This is truly something we did not want to do driving 5 hours in the rain. The next day it was snowing. It was freezing in the cabin and the heater would not get high enough to keep us warm. We were directed to get log for the fire place so we accepted that was what needed to be done. Then the dish washer leaked and flooded the whole floor. We asked to be moved to another room but no room were available. Asked some assistance to the manager and we were told the GM is not there. When we asked what can be done, the front desk lady raised her voice and started yelling. I was very much dumbfounded by her behavior. Actually felt helpless with our family stuck in the cabin that is wet - cold - and rat infested. We cut the our trip in half and just left. The Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock, NC was our first time staying there. It was walkable from the…read moreextensive shopping area on Main Street and the website seemed to present a good place to stay. We booked through Expedia and paid through them also. The Inn itself had about 62 rooms but could use a bit of upgrades, not in the rooms which were furnished nicely with the standard being two queen beds. Added to that was a desk as well as two comfortable chairs, close to the window. Nothing at all was in the slightest wrong with the furnishings of the room. The problem I had was that the Wi-Fi never, ever was usable other than one time about 3:30 in the morning when I happened to wake up and read on my Kindle at that outrageous hour. I communicated with the front desk a number of times, probably three times for the 3 days when we stayed there. When I checked out I told the General Manager who was running the front desk that they needed some extenders or something regarding their Wi-Fi but she informed me that they had them at either ends of the hallway on the second floor (where all rooms are located) and in the middle. I thought perhaps our room 204 being at the end of the hall that was the problem but obviously it was not. Also advertised on its website was that they had a bar in the lower level but it was not open or usable with the explanation being that they did not have enough people using it to keep it open other than for the special events which were booked at the Inn. The parking area had 4 spaces close to the front door, but the rest were on higher ground, requiring a bit of exercise to reach the Registration desk. The Wi-Fi and the not open bar are the reason for the deduction of one star, almost exclusively due to the Wi-Fi. In addition to the rooms, other good attributes was a large indoor swimming pool and a sumptuous breakfast, served buffet style from 7:30 AM to 10 AM. The breakfast dining area had outdoor seating which we used on one cooly comfortable morning. Added to the metal tables and chairs with a covering umbrella was the joy of a dozen ducks. TIP: Ask at the desk for bags of seeds to feed the ducks, adding to the joy of the exterior, raised patio above a smaller water feature.

Someone came and emptied our trash, made our beds, and gave us fresh towels every day. Everything seemed nice and clean, zero complaints. Outside they have other little cabins and a fire pit with multiple chairs and maybe one picnic table. Really cute, well kept area! There were also several benches outside of the rooms where guest can sit and enjoy the weather, talk to each other, play music, etc. We frequently saw a lady outside her cabin painting the garden scenery. Blowing Rock seems to gather an older crowd, so being in our 20s and heavily tattooed, you get some looks. However, the staff at the inn was very friendly and enjoyed talking to our infant daughter. The resort is advertised as "beginner-friendly" with good instructors, so we felt confident choosing this place for our first experience. We arrived just one hour after opening and were told there were no private lessons available for the entire day. Not only that - it was impossible to book anything in advance. If you are on vacation, apparently you have to show up at 7 AM and fight for a spot just to maybe get a lesson. It felt very disorganized. It seems like the number of instructors is very limited because it's more profitable for them to sell group lessons. Since there were no private options, we had to take a group lesson. There were 8 people in the group, possibly more. The instructor was honestly terrible. We didn't understand anything, and whenever we said we were confused, he just replied that we were "doing great" without actually explaining anything properly. It felt like he just wanted to rush through the lesson as quickly as possible and move on to the next group. We were immediately taken to a small slope, which was already challenging for people who had never even stood on skis before. No one properly explained the basics. Most importantly, we were never clearly shown how to fall safely - which is essential for beginners. By the end of the lesson, we hadn't learned how to properly snowplough stop (the pizza technique) or make snowplough turns. At the very end, the instructor took us to a slightly steeper slope and just said, "Follow me." It ended in chaos. Everyone went down however they could. I was pulled toward the magic carpet lift twice, had to take off my skis, and that was it. We left frustrated and upset. Our first skiing experience was completely ruined. We genuinely started to feel like skiing just wasn't for us. Ironically, watching YouTube videos that evening was more helpful than the lesson we paid for. Thankfully, we later went to Appalachian Ski Mountain, and the difference was unbelievable. You can book everything online in advance - lessons, equipment, everything. We initially booked one instructor because that was all that showed online, but when we arrived, they were able to find two more instructors so each of us could have a proper private lesson. The instructors there were friendly, patient, and explained all the fundamentals clearly. Within one hour we learned how to snowplough stop (pizza), make snowplough turns, and confidently ski on green runs. We actually enjoyed skiing and left happy and excited. If you are a beginner, I strongly recommend going to Appalachian Ski Mountain instead. Otherwise, your first skiing experience might completely discourage you from this sport.
