Cathey Roofing installed a new shingled roof on our home in October 2020. While we had a few…read moremiscommunications during the install, Corey did a good job of resolving our concerns and it appeared all was in good order. What we didn't know is what was hidden under the new shingles. A few years prior in October 2016, he had brand new Velux skylights installed. Knowing that skylights can present the possibility of leaks, I was careful to choose a vendor that would use the Velux flashing kit and install precisely according to the manufacturer's instructions. I saw the skylight installation first hand including pictures of the completed flashing. It was pristine. Flash forward to a few months ago. We started to notice mold appearing on our living room ceiling. It wasn't in the skylight shaft but on the ceiling around the shaft about 8-12" away. We reached out to Cathey Roofing and they sent a repair specialist who said that the skylights "failed" and that was evidenced by the mold. Knowing how those skylights were installed and that they were warrantied, we reached out to the Velux dealer. They sent a representative who came and inspected the skylights and the flashing around them. The flashing had been damaged and the new roof incorrectly installed around the skylights. Cathey Roofing nailed THROUGH the skylight flashing when they reroofed. They also covered up the channels intended to divert water around the skylight rather than leaving them exposed as they should have. We even went so far as to arrange a Velux representative to train the Cathey Roofing team on correct flashing and shingling around a Velux skylight so that in the future they would not have a repeat of this problem. The shingles are actually bent and wavy around the skylights. Again we called Cathey Roofing and got no response. Finally, I texted Corey Cathey and laid out my concerns since he wouldn't return our calls. He stated that he would meet the Velux representative at our home and make it right. That has now been another ten days and Cathey Roofing will not answer the calls nor respond. The Velux rep has called and left two messages that have gone unanswered. The Velux folks have even gone to the address listed for the business but was not able to reach anybody. We have called and our calls and texts have been unanswered as well. Meanwhile, there is water damage and mold all over my living room ceiling from their poor quality installation. Any company can make a mistake. Reputable companies place a priority on correcting their mistakes because their reputation on the line. Cathey Roofing is intentionally evading having to correct their shotty workmanship. I do not recommend this roofing company and strongly suggest before requesting a quote you consider how very important it is for a company to stand behind their work.

Update - response to owner response. There are many false hoods written in their response, but what…read moreis expected from a company that doesn't honor their agreements? With regard to stating I asked for many different high end shingles this is untrue. At beginning of the project I suggested two I liked, but immediately the company stated these were on back order and so THEY RECOMMENDED a product which we moved on. They never provided multiple quotes on shingles. There were never any changes or any back and forth. In the attached photos you can see why they said they cancelled - because it was going to cost them more in labor than they thought. So depending on whether you believe anything they say since they love to tell tales in their responses, they don't know what it takes to do a job. Also appears they don't have their own dedicated crews and just sub your work out while taking a cut of the profits. The company offered upgrades such as copper valleys, which I simply accepted. Again never any changes or back-and-forth this was all written into the original quote and the original agreement. The agreement, all prices and options were absolutely finalized. I have attached a copy of the signed agreement. It's untrue that they cancelled due to my response and/or reviews. According to them I wrote a bad review about them cancelling a contract, so they cancelled the contract? Do they have a time travel machine? The company also never made any offers to "see what they could do" to remedy the situation, other than me paying more or having me accept a cheaper product. I've attached the email exchange. Funny that I ask them to honor their agreements and their response is to accuse me even then of being "angry" for asking them to do what they signed up for. Evidently they cannot accept responsibility for anything they do or cause. I hope these continued falsehoods show potential new customers what they would be dealing with if they went with this company!!

Working with Secure Roofing has been an absolute nightmare. What started as a straightforward…read moreproject has turned into months of missed deadlines, broken promises, and zero accountability. Our install date was in July of this year, as of October 25th the work is still not complete. Despite initially committing to repair the under-hang for our gutters and provide a chimney cap for the chimney, they have consistently failed to complete the work - without providing any updates or reasons for the delay. Every "estimated completion date" has been a false promise, forcing us to chase them down for any kind of response. To add insult to injury, Secure Roofing filed a request with our insurance company for a higher payout than our signed contract stated, without informing us of any additional charges. When we rightfully held off on final payment until they completed the work, they began sending us threatening emails, warning of court action and even accusing us of insurance fraud - all while the money sits, ready to be paid upon actual project completion. This company has not only failed to fulfill their contractual obligations but has also resorted to intimidation tactics to try to collect payment for work that remains incomplete. We have in writing (from one of their employees) what they were going to do and even after submitting that information they still did not resolve the issue. All we want is what was promised to us. We're not asking for anything extra. We are appalled by their unprofessionalism and unethical behavior and strongly advise anyone considering their services to look elsewhere. Do not trust this company with your home or your money."
