Just a cleaner, more polished version of what is already there. Keep the character, keep the history, keep the nostalgia. Just make it feel cleaner and a little more cared for. The food itself was pretty underwhelming. Nothing was especially BAD, but very little was memorable either. For a place with this much history and reputation, I expected more. I'm glad I checked the box. I guess I understand why people come here, and I understand why it matters to Atlanta. For me, though, this was a once-and-done experience. Glad I went. There is a large sign on the side of building. Entering from the street, there is a ramp down to the counter and seating area. Seating is mostly tables with a few stools at the counter. There is a sign above the counter on the right for takeout orders. The menu is simple. It's fried chicken. There are sides like slaw and baked beans with a few appetizers, but mostly it's chicken. Once our order was placed, it only took about ten minutes to get our food. One thing we noticed while waiting was the cook was checking the internal temperature of each piece of chicken as it came out of the fryer. This was very much appreciated and ensured every piece was cooked to perfection. Constant quality checks like that show they take their product seriously and do not rely only on a timer to tell them when it is done. All the chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. While moist, the meat was not dripping with juices that ran down your arm or left a puddle on your plate. All the flavor was locked into the chicken. The baked beans were good, maybe nothing special but certainly a good accompaniment to the chicken. The slaw was also decent. The mac and cheese was good as well. One note of caution. The chicken seasoning is spicy. If you are used to large chain spicy versions, this is more than that. The flavor is great but the spiciness will get your attention. As long as you are aware of that, you will very much enjoy this chicken.

The burger was a little on the dry side even with the toppings but the potato roll made it a little more interesting. The onion rings were great and can't go wrong with crinkle cut fries. Cold Tropicalia on draft ($8) served by friendly bar staff made it a really great experience. Even though this is not my favorite burger, the sides, the drink options and the overall vibe of the place with excellent service still will make this a place I could visit again.
