During my recent visit to Red Bank, I was wandering around the area off the main drag at Broad Street and this store front caught my eye. It is hard to say what fires one's brain sometimes. I love all types of shops, but when I see a bright, light drenched shop with lots of white and wood, something just fires up my interest. You can see photos of the shop on their site (https://www.shopatforge.com/) to get a sense of what I mean. The store caught my eye and I had to check it out! Inside is a spacious shop with shelves to the left and right and a large island in the middle with all sorts of curated gifts laid out on tables. There are descriptions on every item, which is great because sometimes you see things at these shops and it's hard to tell just what you're looking at. Other times there are items that you just latch onto. There were all sorts of items ranging from soaps, to shampoos, to kitchen ware to an Astrology journal. The common theme was that everything felt elegant and worthy of adding to your home or being a gift. No surprise, as the owner carefully curates everything herself. I wound up picking up a "bag in a bag", a collapsible bag that can fit inside your coat pocket or a side bag. I also picked up some nice hand soaps from Japan. I was told that during my visit the stock in the store was relatively low after the holidays, so I look forward to going back when the shelves and table are more filled with lovely products. Forge is a beautiful shop with a very cool owner and is worth a visit, check it out!

There isn't any place to sit and sip your drinks, but instead of sitting, you can take your latte for a stroll around the shop. This seems like a great place for stocking stuffers and gifts. They have lotions, soaps, candles, holiday decor pieces, ornaments. All things that everyone loves to receive and rarely buys for themselves. If you are in more of a window shopping mood, they have samples of everything. At the cafe counter (also where you can pay) you'll find a small but mighty coffee menu. I got the gingerbread latte and loved every sip. My coworker got the latte with hot honey in it and said it had just the right kick. For a place that doesn't seem to specialize in coffees, they did make two wonderful drinks for us. There was plenty of parking and it looks like they do quite a bit outside (maybe on the weekends?) with the tree lot and farm in the back.

There were plenty of spots on a Tuesday afternoon around 3pm. When you enter you go through these giant barn doors. The inside is a lot of fall decor with candles, bakeware, kitchen towels, all the cute home stuff that makes your house extra cozy for fall. They also have a little coffee area too but I had already gotten coffee earlier so I didn't order any. Although everything was super cute, it was also a bit pricey so I unfortunately only bought some lotion which was really moisturizing and smelled AMAZING. Something I really liked is that you could sample most of the lotions and sprays so although I didn't buy them, I could at least try them out. If you go through the back exit, you enter the farm portion with a little pumpkin patch, donkeys, and sheep! There were a few places for "photo ops" too. If you walk further there's actually a little garden/flower field which was really nice to walk around and take pictures. You couldn't pick any flowers at this time but maybe we could've earlier in the season in the summer. This was a cute little farm that I would come back to for another season to see how they change it up. Although some of the items were pricier I would come back to get something as a gift. I think there's a lot of nice stuff to give for a housewarming and it's good quality too.

This place is a nightmare. It's a very cute shop, but they should not be providing food preparation…read moreservices. Where do I begin? I went into the store and ordered a large cheeseboard for Thanksgiving, a month in advance, with specific instruction to not include nuts given I have a severe nut allergy. They said no problem, just a simple omission. I spoke to them again the morning of by calling to confirm the pick-up time. All seemed well. When I arrived to pick it up, it was very clear that they had lost my box. They were scrambling around and avoiding me, blaming the manager. Finally, they fished something out of the back with no name tag or label, which I assume was not something made specifically for me, but an alternative to band-aid the situation. Knowing this, I asked them to confirm it had no nuts, and it was clear the store associate hadn't even remembered. She opened the box and (surprise!) full of nuts. But wait, it gets worse... The store associate proceeded to throw $10 at me, told me to go buy a coffee, and she would re-make one for me. Very weird and unprofessional, but I thanked her nonetheless and sat down and waited. A few minutes later, another customer who had been waiting by the counter came up to me concerned, and told me that the store associate was not redoing my box and was simply taking the nuts off the top. She told me her son has a peanut allergy and she understands how severe they are, and was worried about cross-contamination. I could not believe it. I spoke to the store associate again who, flustered, understood and then proceeded to re-do the box AGAIN, albeit without cleaning down the area or wearing gloves. Reminder - there was just nuts everywhere. My final box was then slapped together in 5 minutes, sloppily tied together with twine, and not even put back into a box for easy transport. No apology from a manager, hardly any apology from the store associates Needless to say, I will not be risking the ER on Thanksgiving by eating this overpriced cheeseboard. I went to Fourchette because based on the curation of the store, I expected an elevated and tastefully-arranged board with gourmet food and French flair. Instead, I got a $250 board that was haphazardly thrown together in 5-10 minutes with no adherence to deadly food allergies and some of the poorest customer service I've ever experienced. Two customers in the store were kinder to me and more concerned about my food allergies than the store itself. Don't waste your money on their cheeseboards. There are other cheeseboard services in the area with better equipped kitchens, kinder staff, and attention to detail.

"As you SHOULD" the smiling sales professional said...!! I wish we found something that we liked so we could buy it from here!!! BUT, we'll keep this store on our radar for the future..!!!

This review will be updated…read more As of right now, this review is about customer service or the lack thereof, specifically of the Manager of this location, Patti Estavanik. We came in on a Friday, shopping for a bed frame as we just purchased a new mattress. I honestly never heard of Bassett and was skeptical going in at first. Nancy Romano was the nice sales lady who helped us. She was kind and sweet, not pushy - not quite up to speed with the product that her own company sells, but I guess that's normal these days. We found a bed that we like and we got all the information in case we decided to buy it. They were also running a promotion that was going to end on Sunday, however, we didn't get the entirety of the promotion. On Saturday, we decide the bed with found on Bassett was the one for us and we called Nancy back so that she can get the credit after helping us. She sends us the contract via email, but we had a few questions since it's a contract that we are signing and we aren't the type of people to not read what our signature holds. Unfortunately, by the time we received it, they were already closed. We left a message and Ms. Estavanik returned our phone call. I had asked if she could elaborate a specific sentence that requires our signature and all she said that is correct. How is that elaborating? I didn't ask you if it was correct. I know very well that I can read correctly. I wanted elaboration so that I can be as clear as possible of what we are signing and you can only tell me that is correct? When I had to repeat my request, she started to sound annoyed but ended up being able to explain it. I didn't realize doing her job was rocket science and being unfriendly is now the norm in customer service. The real kicker to me is that when I asked about the return restocking fee of 50% as that seems super high. Be reminded that Bassett is not cheap and we have to wait almost 4-6 weeks to receive our bed, the last thing we want to do is wait for that long to just return it for shits and giggles. However, I need to understand everything before I sign something. I mean everything. While this bed frame can be customized, we didn't customize anything, we chose how the bed came, nothing special. I can understand a restocking fee, but 50% is steep. When I had asked not-to-so-friendly Ms. Estavanik, she told me it's because of the 'shipping and such', etc. But we are paying $149 shipping, so how is it suddenly 50% of the bed price? She was getting agitated, it was clear she didn't know how to explain it, most likely because she had no idea, so she told us this is Bassett not Wayfair. Wow. How did you become Manager again? First of all, get off your damn high horse. Just because you have a higher price tag does NOT mean you are better. Our mattress from Tempurdic cost a lot more than a frame (obviously) but not only do they back their product by providing free returns and their customer service was impeccable. So even a higher end store has a better policy than yours. But not once did they talk crap about someone else. Just because Bassett is not Wayfair is STILL not an explanation of why their is a 50% restocking charge. And who are you to down talk Wayfair? I told her that comment was rude and unnecessary and instead of letting me finish, she talked over me because she probably realized how big of a stick she has up in her ass. I, personally, have never purchased anything from Wayfair, not because it has a lower price tag, but because I can't physically see it. I don't like buying stuff online that I can't see first - that is just me. But what is wrong with someone buying from Wayfair? What if that is what they like and what if that is all they can afford? Who are you to be such a snobby woman? If we didn't have a mattress coming, I would have totally canceled the order and gone to a different location. I know that may be petty, but she is a horrible woman to be so unkind to other people. Bassett - you disappoint me. Let's hope the bed frame will actually work out.
