This is a large, multi room thrift store that primarily sells women's clothing. They also have some shoes, a very small men's section, home goods, pet goods, and some furniture. They have four or five dressing rooms with a designated attendant who stayed in the area so there was no waiting for rooms to be unlocked, which I greatly appreciated. She was kind and helpful as well. All of the clothing was in good condition from what I saw. There's also a range of sizes, including plus size. The racks are organized by size and color which was incredible and makes looking for items so much easier. There were many people working at this store which was a plus, in case you had questions or needed help. I enjoyed my experience and would return if I was passing through the area however it did feel a bit overpriced to me. This store is advertised as a consignment shop, which might be why the condition of the items was better than stores like Goodwill, and the pricing was higher. Most of the shirts were about 10$, which again felt a bit high to me. I did get lucky and found some work pants for 8$. Like I said, I'd come back if I was in the area but I've enjoyed my time at other stores more than this particular one. read more

Brought two bags of clothes and shoes. Two days later, requested item list of what I took to store. Did not receive list of items took. When I contacted store, told items smelled of mothballs. I do not use mothballs. I went to pick up items. Told all given to charities. How do u give clothes that "supposedly" smelled of moth balls, to charities? Why not call me to tell me of a smell? I feel and only my opinion, something is not right the way items are handled. I will never go back or recommend this business. read more

Dropped off 5 bags full of good solid merchandise from designers as Vince, Tory Birch, Michael Kors etc... from shoes,shirts, dresses and pocketbooks. 3 weeks later went back to look and see if I was credited for anything and looked throughout the store to locate items I dropped off. I was paid $12 and no where in sight was any of the items that I left with them. When I inquired about certain items ( which were in good condition) they told me they were not acceptable because they were worn! I personally do not think they were worn but of course used! This is a consignment store!!! Something or someone here is not being honest and not trustworthy. How sad that a local store is not honest. read more

A real hidden gem! This place has so many good brands at a wildly low price. They have a sister store in Ocean township that was big and had a great selection as well but this place blows any other thrift store out of the water! Every time I go I leave with Zara, Free People and so much more, most of it brand new with tags. It's a small place but there is a lot packed into it! So I left about 20 items in a big bag last week for consignment. They don't go through the bags anymore so it's basically trusting them to honorably go through your stuff. The bag consisted of Michael Kors , and Calvin Klein and INC spring snd summer tops that were in excellent condition. Some worn maybe twice. There were summer dresses and loungewear as well. I just called to inquire what is on my account and told everything was donated!!! There were no marks or worn looks to any of these items. I expected maybe a few would be rejected but EVERYTHING??!!? How can this be? Something is not right. Next time I am giving to the charity of my choice and forget them making money off of my good things. read more

I had some concern about going in because there had been some pretty scathing reviews, however the staff was cordial and very polite. Although I didn't buy anything on my visit, I found the merchandise to be of really nice quality and the prices excellent. Some interesting finds. If I could give a zero rating, I would. I brought contractor bags and bags full of designer clothes and handbags...many with tags of never being worn, because of the shopaholic I used to be. Clothes that were timeless and would never go out of style. Worked in New York City my entire life and bought the best clothes from Saks 5th Ave., Lord & Taylor, Macy's and more. Due to downsizing and not being able to bring all my treasures to my new home I decided to part with them. To date from 2018, I only received $55. I am astounded by this. I was told that much of my stuff was donated. Really? I could've sold on my own and made more money then I received from this place. Their consignment is a rip off. The store has a terrible smell..the staff are awful...the merchandise even the new things are garbage.. They called the police on a woman with a medical condition refusing to wear a mask, but the staff there...mostly maskless. Find somewhere else to shop. read more

Recently discovered back on the rack through a friend was amazed and thrilled at their prices and the quality of their merchandise everything was clean and up-to-date fashions the store was well organized and the help had smiles on their face no one had a mean or rude words to say you felt like it was more of a boutique than a consignment store. the best part was not having to walk over garbage bags filled with items waiting to be checked in just to get into the store! After being a loyal customer for 4 years I had the absolute worst experience. I dropped off 5 bags of clothing including premium denim like true religion , Joes jeans and AG, several cashmere sweaters including a Joie that still had the tags, north face jackets and outerwear and brand new suede Tom's shoes. I was told that everything was donated. Not One piece was accepted and the reason was listed as cheap retail brands. I reached out to the owner and her solution was to give me a receipt for a donation to the popcorn park zoo for a tax write off. Total disgrace. Beware of this store stealing from you. I never thought it would happen after many years as a loyal customer. But this happened and to say I'm disgusted is an understatement. read more

Went to Back on the Racks this weekend looking for some home furnishings and discovered a beautiful kitchen table with a set of 4 chairs marked very reasonably. Colleen was very helpful and friendly. The delivery guys were both courteous, Anthony was great with getting everything setup where we wanted it and making sure we were happy with it. All of the employess that assisted us were polite and helpful with looking the table over and arranging delivery that arrived the very next day. In addition, they also took away our high-top table that is now on consignment there Overall, extremely pleased with the customer service and care from the staff at this location. We will definitely be stopping in again to see what new items are for sale. read more

One of my usual consignment stops over the years. I rarely leave there empty-handed. They carry many different high and low end brands. I think some of the prices on the accessories are a little high tho for resale compared to other comparable consignment shops I've been to in Monmouth and Ocean County. Been consigning with back on the racks since day one. Their selection is incredible. The women's clothing store is very organized and filled with treasures! I have found some pretty amazing deals and truly loved shopping there....until recently. On two separate, but recent occasions I've left back on the racks so frustrated and disgusted. Their prices have skyrocketed and all of the women who work there are completely unprofessional and unwelcoming. I was trying on dresses in the dressing room and heard the employees speaking very poorly about a customer. Thought maybe they didn't realize I was right there, so I let it go. Next time I went back and the same thing happen, but this time the employees were talking about the customers who were shopping in the front of the store! When the customers paid for their overpriced items and left, the employees again had something nasty to say about them. Just when I didn't think it could get any worse the phone rings. A customer called the store to ask the women working a question.. when she hung up she went off about how stupid the question was and even called the customer dumb. Feeling extremely uncomfortable.. I put the items I planned to buy back on the racks and walked out. For good this time. I literally could not believe my ears. I could only imagine what they had to say about me when I left. This is probably one of the best consignment shops I've been to so far. The lady who owns it is a sweetheart. It's also customized for the boyfriends with comfy couches and a flat screen tv. I had my sister drive me all the way to Backs on Racks because of the previous reviews. There was a huge selection of clothes but most of them seemed outdated. I was expecting more vintage thrifted items. But they did have a nice selection of premium jeans. There were lots of other customers there with various items in their hands. Absolutely 5 ~ professional, knowledgeable, caring and delightful staff as well as awesome merchandise that is priced perfectly. I can buy designer brands as well as top label store brands and enjoy much more merchandise than I could if purchased in regular retail stores. I wish I could give this place zero stars. Myself, my mom and my entire family have been shopping here ever since they opened in their little West End locations. However, there are some nasty old ladies in there working and will give you such attitude if you bring in something that they personally don't like and will turn it down for sale just because it doesn't appeal to them. A woman with short blonde hair that's all patchy in the back, scoffed at my mom when she brought in a picture frame that she didn't like and said "oh no we can't sell THAT." Also I have won a few items on their Facebook live sales and when I go to pick them up they are so nasty and condescending. After I knocked on their back door (which I was personally instructed to do over the phone when I called to find out how pick up works) I was yelled at through the door "ITS OPEN OH MY GOD" Why would you treat a customer like that? Needless to say, I will NEVER be going here again and I WILL write a review about this disgraceful establishment every single place that I possibly can because no customer should be treated the way that I've been treated after being a loyal customer since they've opened many years ago. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store. This is by far the best consignment shop in all of Ocean County or matter of fact NJ in general. The staff is uber nice and the shop is in order to a T. I recently went here with my sister and fell in LOVE. I purchased 5 tops all from Banana Republic & Gap and two pair of jean one from DKNY and also David Bittion all for $40 bucks. WINNING in my book literally. A must go if you are in the area. They have two separates stores one for house wear items and shoes and one soley for clothes both are a must to visit. read more

Absolutely love this place. For a small-ish store, they pack in a ton of stuff while keeping it organized and presentable. Always a lot to find and browse through, including a great sale section too. Definitely suggest making the trip . The owner is nice too and they support dog rescue efforts which I love. I consign there too and recommend doing that as well. read more

I wrote a very poor review months ago that was recently removed. Why I have no idea. But let me tell you why this place is so horrible. First they employ teenagers without any customer service skills meaning the kids are RUDE, CARELESS, UNPROFESSIONAL, and have zero manors. They could care less if a warm friendly attitude could make or break a sale. I'm not expecting the ritz but I do expect a general compassion and kindness from any human being. Secondly this place is a mess. I know it's a "thrift" shop but the store is not clean. There are barely dressing rooms, unless you consider a bed sheet tacked up a changing room. Thirdly you can not tell who is an employee or who is the consumer. They don't wear uniforms, tags, or for example all black attire to identify themselves as someone who's employed here. Lastly their terrible snobbish attitude you receive from ALL employees is enough for me to bad mouth them and write this review. Needless to say I would NOT recommend this place to shop or consign. read more

I used to love this store and have frequented it tons of times every time I visit my grandmother who lives nearby. In the past I have always bought lots of clothes each time I visited and have always experienced friendly and helpful customer service. However, today when I went with my grandma I experienced the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life! The three women there were nasty and rude to us and basically pushed us out of the store. I was probably trying on about 15-20 items and one of the women told me I could only bring 6 into the dressing room (which is the typical policy and I was fine with), however she said so in such a snappy and condescending way and then when I came out to show my grandma a shirt and give back two items I was not taking and to take in two more, she yelled at me that I could not do that and that I had to instead try on all six. So I tried on the rest, choosing to keep three to buy and gave three items back. Then when I went to take in the next six she rudely informed me that since there were people waiting I could not try on anymore unless I waited in the line again, and then I could only try on six more before having to wait again! Coming from NYC, where there are muuuch longer lines than in this store, I've never heard of such a ridiculous and time-wasting policy. Each customer has to get dressed and undressed to try on six items and then get back in the line?? Absurd. We asked if I could hold the rest of my items and come back in an hour or so when the store was less busy and she said no. There was no way I was going to keep waiting in line to try on more items, so I told her I was not buying anything, including the three items I had already tried on and was planning on buying, because I had never experienced such horrible customer service. She made no attempt to stop us from leaving, and gave no apology. I have never been treated so badly in a store, and even though this is one of my all-time favorite stores, I will never go back there. read more
