Entrance to our lodging. Great location on Main st. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, shopping and bars.

This place has the perfect location! We stayed in the Blue Lagoon and it was clean and perfect for myself and husband. Our room overlooked the patio of the bar next door that has a live band till 11:00. I loved that, but if you want a quiet room this isn't the best room for you. The only downside is that parking is 1st come 1st serve along Main st. So good luck finding a spot. I will definitely stay here again.

Cowboy room @ Bed & Brew - bed was HORRIBLE

What a cool concept - a Bed & Brew - where instead of getting breakfast like at a normal B&B, you get freshly brewed, unique to the region beer. Let's start with that - the beer. It was FANTASTIC and unlike any other beer I'd tasted. We paid for 2 nights in the B&B (only ended up staying 1, but more on that later) so each night my husband and I each had a voucher for either 1 pint of beer or 1 flight. The first night he had the Enchanted Rock Red Ale and I had the Whitetail Wheat and both were DELICIOUS. The second night he tried a pint of the Helles Keller while I opted for the flight which was beautifully presented in small beer glasses lined up from light to dark. All were great, but my faves were the Enchanted Rock Red Ale & the Whitetail Wheat. The porter was a very close 3rd (how in the heck do they get coffee & chocolate flavors to taste GOOD in beer?). Now, on to the "bed" of the B&B. Checking in was an interesting experience done at the brewery/restaurant. A young girl was helping us and beyond asking us to sign our credit card receipt, she wasn't very happy or helpful. We asked for an itemized receipt (because tax was close to $100 - the cost of 1 night's stay!), but she said she couldn't give us one. We stayed in the Cowboy room and the room itself was quaint, with old western decor, a working A/C, and a hot shower. The window was small and overlooked the top of the building, but that didn't really bother us. We were looking forward to a good night's rest since we were taking an 8 hour rock climbing class at Enchanted Rock the next day...unfortunately that rest never happened. Immediately upon getting into bed both my husband and I noticed the stiffness of the mattress. As we tried to roll around and get comfortable we could feel every single spring poking us, keeping us from finding a position that allowed us to actually sleep. We both tossed and turned all night long. At one point I rolled over to find my husband on the internet on his cell phone - he was looking up the cancellation policy for the next night - it was 3:45am. We had several middle of the night conversations as each of us was wide awake most of the night. When our alarm went off at 6:45am both of us felt groggy and sleepy from not getting any rest and we both agreed that although we had paid for a Saturday night stay, we'd be heading back to San Antonio to sleep in our own bed that night. After a long day of rock climbing we returned to the room to shower, packed our things and left. When "checking out" (again done at the brewery) the same stone-faced girl "helped" us and when my husband told her we couldn't possibly sleep another night in that bed she did nothing but take our key from him and continue with other duties. I was rather sad to have such a poor experience with the bed and service because this B&B could really be nice. The location is perfect (right on Main Street), but the bed will prevent us from ever staying again and from recommending this place to anyone.

The layout of the B&B notice the Admirals room highlighted.

I understand that the cabins are old, and authentic but it would help a little. I would also recommend a little better dusting, around window sills, and windows/curtains, a fair amount of dust that came off, every time we closed the blinds or pulled the curtains. That is the only reason I rated it a 4 instead of 5.

After hearing that they are well known for their little B&Bs this one stood out among the rest for our weekend trip. We were going to be visiting on our 15th anniversary and lucky for us they still had some Saturday night reservations a few weeks before our trip. We originally had the Evening Star reserved but a lovely woman from the reception reached out to us upon seeing our reservation and asked if we wanted to be upgraded to the Weber House - for no additional charge! This was an absolute yes! What a nice gesture since they knew it was our anniversary - based on the questionnaire during check out. Some of the buildings are split with multiple room offerings- like the main hall- the Weber House however we stayed in was just us. We had a cute porch, living room, kitchen, bedroom, hugeeee bathroom with clawfoot tub and a screened in outdoor porch. Some of the bigger houses you can rent have room for multiple people but ours was intended for 2 people. They also have a cute library with some books and DVDs you can borrow. The property itself was VERY quiet. When we arrived we checked in at the little office upfront. The girl working even walked us to our little house since we had never been on the property before. Whoever stayed at the house the night before had broken the glass on the little table in the kitchen which was a bummer, so we could not use that, and maintenance was off on weekends. But otherwise it was the cute quaint place. Bed was comfy, central AC even though the buildings themselves pre-date that. Each one is unique too! We especially liked sitting on the screened in porch at night and enjoying a bottle of wine. In the morning they promptly left breakfast in a basket at 9am at our doorstep that was home cooked. It was a very sweet inn.

There are lots of options around Texas for romantic spots so that doesn't sound too hard, right? Well, it wouldn't be if you weren't dealing with a hormonal, PMSing girl with mad food cravings because she's trying to be good and eat low carb to squeeze into the size-too-small bridesmaid dress that she ordered. Too much info? I digress. We hit the wine road towards Fredericksburg and after seven wineries, 42 tastings, and six bottles later, he brought me to the most adorable place I've ever stayed at: Carriage House. In case you're wondering, it was just as adorable the next day when I was more sober (my photos don't do the place justice). The outside of the main house was pretty, but no, we weren't staying in the main house- he did better than that. Off to the side of the main house was a little cottage standing by itself. "EEEEE, we're staying in there?!" my tipsy self gushed. The girly squeals only intensified after I saw the interior of the cottage. Hubs had outdone himself. A few tips for first timers: Dogs under 30lbs are allowed to stay for an extra $10/night. You have your very own private parking spot that is literally right next to the cottage. Once parked, you will find a little gate about a yard in front of your car; the gate leads right to the front of the cottage. In addition to the usuals that are provided at a hotel, the cottage is also supplied with dishes, silverware, and wine openers. Just check the drawers around the kitchen sink. Towels and extra toiletries are located under the bathroom sinks, and there is a step stool located underneath the (very high) bed. If you're short, use it. If you've been drinking wine all day, use it. When in doubt, use it. You're not actually served breakfast in bed here. Instead, you're given $10 vouchers (one for each guest) that can be used at several popular brunch spots in Fredericksburg. If Carriage House had a cheesy slogan, I would imagine it to be something along the lines of, "Carriage House: Drink Wine and Fall in Love." So friends, drink wine, fall in love, and check this place out. But don't try to book on my birthday weekend. Because it'll be mine.

Thankfully, we found out that it's not quite as expensive as it looks, and we could afford to stay there, so we did! The room was wonderful and very comfortable. I love the stone wall! Only qualm I had was in regard to the shower/tub. The jacuzzi tub itself was amazing, but they put a "rainshower" head above it for showers. First of all, it was a regular showerhead pointed straight down, not a rainshower like those positioned that way should be. A sign asks you to utilize the shower curtain properly so there is no water damage... which is impossible even when using the curtain. It's just a very odd setup. There will be water damage just of how the whole thing was designed. Worst about it all, was how high the tub itself is- if you are in any way disabled (be it permanently or temporarily injured) or elderly, you are going to despise this tub/shower. I'm a 34-year old fit and active person, and I struggled getting in and out of this thing. It's awkward to start with but then add water and oh sh!t, you're going down for sure! We used the stairs for the bed and put them in the bathroom for this reason but it didn't help much. Other than that, everything else was spectacular. The staff was friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the fireplace which was SO cozy! Perfect for the chilly nights we had. They supply firewood and firestarters so it's very easy to make your own. During one of the days, it was warm enough to enjoy the pool too. Breakfast gets delivered in an adorable picnic basket and it's loaded! We expected the norm of simple breakfast options like mini boxes of cereal and muffins. Nope! Hard-boiled eggs, fruit galore, prosciutto, cheese, danishes/pastries, oatmeal, and yogurt. It was different every day and delicious every day. Treat yourself and stay here! You'll be glad you did. If you fear the wacky tub/shower, don't choose room 10. That's where we were but all the rooms are unique and others may have a better layout in the bathroom.

We were seated immediately, the ambiance was nice, the gardens we walked thru outside were gorgeous. Our first waiter was aloof, he spilled water all over the table, cleaned it up...accidents happen no biggie but he seemed annoyed with us, when he was the one who spilled onto the table and into my friend's lap. Fortunately, most landed on the table. We had scheduled on line and the limit it showed was 8 on the first screen and then we were given a noted area where it asked how many people, we confirmed 9 people, we paid $180 for this reservation. It did charge for 8 (missed that in the email). When we arrived we asked the hostess ( young dark haired girl not friendly) she answered with an attitude and let us know we had booked for eight and NO they would not accommodate. Part of our group was seated. The rest of the group came in and saw that the two ladies on the end were so crowded at the narrow table it was going to make eating difficult. So I went to ask for a manager. The manager (Chris maybe, bearded guy). He was immediately, defensive and attitude-y. I asked him if it was possible for us to get another table moved over. "NO, the girl already told you. Not possible, we are booked ". Mind you I'm looking around and there are two tables in our room with people, us and another one AND Three empty tables. Each room had more empty tables than they did people. He tells me they are ALL booked. I'm like there is nothing. NOPE. I tell him there is no need to speak with that attitude and rudeness and then I go sit down because I'm not trying to ruin our trip. So a new waiter came, some ordered the lavender mimosas, peach Bellini, Bloody Mary, hot tea & champagne. The lavender mimosa got mixed reviews, very sweet. Bloody Mary and green tea were exceptionally good. We asked whether there was a sugar free coffee option, waiter didn't ever come back. We ordered chicken and waffles, salmon eggs Benedict, regular eggs Benedict and tuna ahi salad & a cinnamon roll. Chicken and waffles was cinnamon forwards but not really a Belgian waffle and the waffle was not hot, you got two chicken strips (the crust was flavorful but the chicken was a bit dry). Two of us paid extra for hot honey, it WASN'T hot or even flavorful! Both Eggs Benedict were cooked right but just warm. Tasted good but the classic breakfast fries could have been cooked longer. The tuna ahi salad was very good although the tuna was a small serving. Asked another waiter About the sugarfree coffee, he suggested and then came back with raspberry latte, tried it but it was weird...No one ever asked if it was okay, no one asked about the lavender mimosa even though we ordered another champagne and pushed it aside . The cinnamon roll was delicious but more of a bread pudding. Overall it was not a great experience. The customer service was lacking. I realize we showed up with an extra person( from the managers viewpoint) but they could have accommodated even if they said we'll try but if all the booked clientele show up then we will have to come get the table. Also after spilling the water on the table and some into a customers lap, the manager should have comped her champagne or something as an apology for the ruckus. Two tables in our section were empty the entire time we were there. There were multiple empty tables throughout the restaurant the entire time we were there. I can't recommend this place, very rude management and not at all accommodating, lacking customer service & the food was not up to par

It was a WONDERFUL, down to each little detail. The next morning we had another great breakfast... fresh eggs, sausage links, french toast w/ strawberries and bananas, walnuts and more fresh squeezed orange juice. Glenda also made us a sweet treat (individual chocolate lava cakes) that Steve delivered to us on Saturday afternoon. YUM!
