Love them. Ever since I switched from a different bank two years ago I have been so pleased with BECU. My old bank was robbing me with fee's. Every month some new fee appeared. Not anymore! My savings account is accruing tons of interest thanks to the super saver and I get reimbursed the fee whenever I use a non BECU ATM machine. What?! That's amazing! The mobile app is really easy to use too. So streamlined and easy I've only had to go to the main location once since opening my account! I call the main location the mothership, it's in Tukwila. They have a bunch of other smaller locations but as far as I know none of the smaller ones have the coin counter like the mothership has. I've been so happy since I made the switch and highly recommend all my friends and family do the same. Finally feel like I have a bank that has my best interests in mind. I can't wait to buy a house and use BECU and all their programs for that as well! read more

Stay away If you have a business, you don't have 4+ hours to deal with something excrutiatingly simple to hold for their single tech support person, and if you aren't a complete sap. I've been banking with them for 30+ years and in the last 6 months alone they have erased all that good will from utter and complete incompetence- when they say that they've fixed it or they're improving it, you might translate that as the opposite. As soon as I recoup the 8+ hrs I've spent on resetting simple things like bill pay- where the Bill Payee vanishes after set up even after getting activation codes and email confirmations. BECU's customer service has become extremely poor over the past few years. I spoke with the most condescending "supervisor" over the phone today. They would not honor a promotional rate off that they sent me by email for a balance transfer that I submitted THREE DAYS prior. Absurd. Dont get an auto loan here. I have banked with them for over 15 years and have seen the service go to s***. We had a preapproved loan that we just needed to sign for. They didnt do of the paperwork, ran my credit when they didnt need to and wasted our time. What should have been a few minutes turned into well over an hour and a half. The service rep was rude and acted like it was our fault. It also shouldnt take a week to finalize a refinance on an auto loan. Way to drop the ball BECU!! BTW had the representative (Michael Scholzen) smiled our even introduced himself this would not have been such a huge situation. I watched him act the same way toward the customers before us. I am an account holder and have been for awhile now. I've recently lost my job and found other means of work by doing side jobs from people needing help with work on cars, landscaping, etc.. I even sold items like my phone for example. I then got paid by a money grams and now BECU is restricting my access to my account and won't tell me why. Between my general hatred for how BECU operates, this is the only location I've ever tried to visit. Most of my banking can be done online but I had a transaction that required handing things off to a teller. The lines are atrocious. They are clearly understaffed. They have 6(?) drive-thru tellers but it appears they had only 2 or 3 people operating the drive-thru. So you got to wait in line and then wait even longer after you finally got to the stall. The staff is short, rude and generally unpleasant. So when I was delivered bad news about my transaction, it was the icing on the cake of how much I hate BECU and their practices. They require you to do everything in paper-form, so archaic. I can't even sign up for my car loan to auto-pay without faxing them some crap. So I use the transfer function every month. They never explained this fine print to me and I ended up paying a day too early. Creating a headache that they fixed but not without making me aware that I'm the asshole for not knowing that they don't operate like the majority of financial institutions out there. Recently my credit card was compromised. Well well well that's WEIRD it's a card that I only used for balance transfer because the good thing I can say about them is that they have great interest rates on credit cards. I used it once, right after I got it over a year ago for a quick purchase at a reputable store front. Then I put that card away in my locked box at home. It was utterly shocking and distressing to get a call from "Fraud services", [who are outsourced and not mentioned anywhere on the BECU website, I only figured it out by seeing it's a center that multiple credit unions outsource their fraud unit s to.] The good news is that the card was successfully flagged and turned off. The annoying news is that I wasn't asked if I wanted a new card, I don't. I am not using it for that. But they reissued it again. Using the USPS and thankfully wasn't stolen in the mail. I was informed to just not activate it. I didn't but I'm not resting easy that there won't be fraud on the account again. I tried multiple avenues to file complaints. I get brushed off. Use literally any other financial institution. Their interest rates won't help you when they pop you for paying your card the day the statement is cut, silly me thinking that if you sent me a statement, I can go ahead and pay that monthly due. No no no, they give you a whole extra day as a "courtesy" to pay your previous balance. W-T-F. Awful. Worst decision in banking I've made and I used to bank with Chase. I waited in line for 1/2 an hour during the height of Covid to withdraw cash that I desperately needed to pay a bill. When I got to the teller she said she needed a member number from my CU (I'm with another CU in town that doesn't have any nearby branches) but we don't have "member numbers" and my acct number and cu info wasn't enough. OK- fine- can I contact my bank to get my member number? "Sure- but be quick about it" I was on hold with my bank literally 2 minutes when the manager lady came over and said " did you fine it yet?" No- I'm on ho- "OK, we won't be able to help you." Wtf becu- the door was open when I arrived- if you can't stay open until I finish my transaction then close the doors earlier!! Making me wait with 20+ other people in a line in your lobby in the height of Covid and then saying BYE when I wasn't able to IMMEDIATELY produce the info you need is terrible customer service and also, frankly, cruel. read more

I'm not sure if this is the correct location, but in June we financed a truck through BECU. If I could give minus stars I would. There has not been one month that we have not had a major problem with getting them to process our payment correctly. Every single month we hear the same thing, there was an error. Every month, I have to call and wait on hold while they supposedly "fix" the problem. If this happens again, we plan on getting an attorney to discuss their complete incompetence. THE HOME LOAN department shows NO SIGN OF EFFORT to approve a loan within 60 days. Honestly, I will probably close all my personal and business accounts next week after my loan , if possible, gets approved. The are so slow and poor at customer service and following up or through, it became personal. They satisfy all the complaints I've ever heard about why NOT to use a bank for a home loan. They say their closing time is 45 days from application. We will be at 60 days, and they still can't wait a week at a time for the underwriters to respond. I should have been the easiest loan to approve if they could get a response from the underwriter in less than 1 week per question. Huge disconnect between underwriters and loan officers. In doing a routine review of my TransUnion credit report, I discovered that BECU had run a credit check on me ... four years after I asked them to close my BECU accounts. I had no money with them. I had no loan with them. I had done absolutely NO business with BECU in more than four years and yet, they ran a credit check. There was no legitimate reason for that. read more

If I could give this place a -10 stars I would. I went to change my last name and I had a official document stating that I changed my name and they were giving me troubles about changing my last name. My ID had the same number and they didn't even care. Same address. Same everything. The only thing f that changed was my last name It's not so much that they had to stick the BECU policy it's the way they went about it. They were being condescending and extremely rude. Alexandra was the agent that was helping me and was not helpful. The supervise Jonathan was not being nice and the manager Nhi Le was "unavailable" to speak with me. Have an auto loan through BECU and moved out of state. Needed a copy of the title sent to the new state to register the car. Simple enough right? Called in June 2020 to request the title. Spoke to an employee who had never done this before. Was told they needed an $11 'maintenance fee' for the title which could be included with the monthly payment, and then the WA DOL may take several weeks for the title. Okay, reasonable. Sent it in. Called back July 2020 to follow up. Was told they didn't receive the fee because it actually *can't* be sent in with the payment and must be separate. Due to this, 6 weeks had gone by with nothing happening. Whoever I spoke to first was misinformed. Everyone seemed clueless on how to do this. Was told the fee needed to be sent again but could only be mailed and not paid over the phone. Clarified the address to send it to, twice. Sent it in again. September 2020, check in again. Get told the fee was accidentally applied to the loan and due to that, nothing happened again. Basically got told 'oops' and now I'm another 4-6 weeks out from registering the car while now driving around with expired registration due to BECU's incompetence. They've made what should be a simple process an absolute nightmare that's taken 3 months. Can not wait to never deal with this company again. UPDATE: October 2020. Was expecting a letter in the mail confirming the title change. Instead I received *someone else's* letter. Literally, addressed to a name I don't know but somehow with my address, about someone else's vehicle. Called about it, my title's still pending and this was another "oops." BECU are not the institution they are talking about. like traditional financial institutions, BECU practicing the same scam and fraud on its borrowers. when you borrower from these institutions be more vigilant and read carefully hidden fine print. These kind of practice occasionally happening with the people English are not their native tongues. most of the browsers have been scammed on insurance purchasing scams. without knowing, expensive insurance policy have been purchased on the behalf of you and added to your original loan. these practices had been done in the past by greedy bank and the bank had been fined. now the credit union using the same technique by know the there customer language analysis availability. already over 324 people encounter the same problem. even, let's assume you feel to provide insurance and they purchase on the behalf of you. the insurance premium should not added to the principal loan, should have separate accounts, however, in BECU cases, the practice has been done widely read more

If you have 2 balances on your credit card (e.g. a balance transfer at 0% and a balance for purchases at the regular rate) , they are supposed to apply your payment as follows: the minimum payment required goes to whichever balance they choose anything paid over the minimum payment is to be applied to the highest interest balance. BECU does not do this, even though it is law. Going to pay off card asap and go elsewhere, where law is followed. Talking to anyone on the phone is near impossible. Horrible service. If my pension check comes in on Saturday they won't credit it to my account until Monday. read more

I've been banking with BECU for years after moving all my accounts and mortgage from BOA. I've really had no issues accept for one. That is not being abke to have two primary names on an account. When I married I convinced my wife to move her accounts and use BECU to finance her new auto loan. We also have accounts at WSECU and there we have no issue with both our names being a primary on the account. However at BECU you can add another name but there is only one primary. This creates a hurtle when you need to withdraw a large amount. I just wish BECU would find a way to make this happen. We are close to moving all our accounts out of BECU and to WSECU because of this ongoing issue. (Update) When I posted this I was responded to and below you will see the private messages. Because of this I now moved from 3 stars to 2 stars. Talking to a customer about something they have mentioned for years and getting the same response is painful. Just like when I was in the bracmnch and asked someone and they said, no we haven't made that change yet, with a tone as if they were working on it. But when questioned more figured out she was just talking to talk and had no knowledge of them actually addressing this issue. This was the message sent to me: "Thanks again for your review, Mark. It's important that we hear from our members, as we're continually looking for ways to improve. We'd like to chat with you further. If you'd like to be contacted, please provide a good contact number and I'll pass your information along. We look forward to hearing from you." This was my response to it: "I have brought this up for years and talked to representatives multiple times about this. Nothing else can be said about it that you don't already know. You cannot have two primary people on an account. Telling me you're aware of this and care about my issue does nothing when it's been 6 years or more since I first brought it up. Becu is fine, except for their mortgage department. Its the worst. This is an honest advice. If you are trying to get your mortgage application going to put an offer on your dream house, go find other banks/credit unions or mortgage companies. Becu wont get you anywhere. Their mortgage department hires unprofessional and unexperienced employees that dont know how to get their work done. When you call, they will keep transfer you to a different person to answer your questions and finally hang up on you. Very rude. I tried to call 10x times and they did the same thing. I've been with BECU even as an out of state member since 2012 and never had any complaints. The bill pay is always on time, the app is good, and while a 0% foreign fee for withdrawals would be better, 1% isn't end of the world. I'm only rating 3* though because their mortgage team is non responsive. I wanted to give them my business twice - when buying and when refinancing - and never had timely callbacks from the first inquiry, and never heard back on the refinance inquiry. read more

Their phone representatives don't seem to care, or aren't very knowledgeable, and will transfer you from one department to the next because they can't answer your question. And along with each transfer, you get to be on hold once again. I have actually been hung up on by representatives on a few occasions, which was very surprising, but also enlightening. Had a car loan with BECU and paid it off early. I called for a payoff amount. I sent a check of the payoff amount I was quoted. I then get a monthly statement showing I owed $7.49. I sent a check for $7.49. My statement arrives the next month and it shows the loan balance of a penny. I called to ask them to waive the penny then I was told that I actually owe $35.51 for the title transfer. I was also told to go into any BECU branch and I can write a check to pay the car off. I went into a branch at the Landing in Renton and I was told I couldn't write a check at that location. I had to deposit the money into a savings account and then they could transfer the money from that account to pay the loan off. I had no idea I had a savings account with BECU, which came with the loan, apparently - without my knowledge or approval. I was unapologetically told to go to Tukwila to get it handled there. Meanwhile, gas is over $5/gal. Not great customer service if I have to drive way out of my way to pay the loan off. Why have a bank branch if you can't do basic teller transactions? (Especially at the location across the street from Boeing.) Inconvenient isn't a strong enough word and bad customer service doesn't even cover it. read more

We have been customers for 10+ years and have had a few bumps along the way but have been pretty happy until last week. We went on a mini vacation and discovered that two payments were pulled early causing almost $200 in overdraft fees. Of course I couldn't talk to anybody about it because it was Sunday. When I called to talk to a manager it took three days for someone to call me back and when I did I had to talk to someone above him to get even half of the late fees reverse because it was their fault. We are severely unhappy and when I said we would take our business somewhere else they didn't seem concerned in the least. I would give zero stars if I could. The loss prevention department just took money out of my account to pay my visa bill. This is money that I had already earmarked for another bill that is coming out of my account on Monday. This (of course) made me overdrawn and so I won't be able to make the payment that the money was originally earmarked for. I just joined yesterday and I'm all ready heavily considering closing my account. I just moved here recently from California and I've had a wonderful experiences with the credit unions there. While I can't say anything about the customer service since the line was so awfully long, two things really agitated me. -The Coinstar machine is just your average coinstar machine that takes 8.9% of your coins if you want cash. I drove 30 minutes here thinking it was a change counter like they had at my old bank that counted your coins free of charge as long as you were a member. Was very disappointed and ended up with an amazon card instead. -There are only TWO actual bank locations with tellers and full service in King County. Don't be mislead by the abundance of red thumbtacks on their site, those are either atms or "bank lite" locations that only have atms and people that deal with loans. So anytime I need to cash a check now I'll have to drive 30 minutes from Federal Way to the Tukwila location and then wait at least another 30 minutes in line. Seems asinine such a large credit union would only have 2 fully functional locations. read more

So my son and his fiancé are buying a car. His fiancé has an out of state drivers license. My son as a FOCO score in the high 700's. They spent an hour at the CU, filled out all the paperwork, ran their credit until the very end they were denied because the fiancé had an out of stare drivers license. My husband and I chose BECU to go through for our home loan because of the good experience we've had working with this local credit union for our banking, and because they offered perks of providing us with a so-called "vetted" real estate agent to work with as well as a rebate at closing. We should have shopped around! It took a month for us to get a pre-approval letter for the correct amount we are qualified for because of "special circumstances" that the loan officer did not understand (my husband changed jobs and I own a small business, which both seem pretty typical circumstances) and the underwriter took weeks to look over the documents we provided as soon as they were requested. Things were not explained to us along the way and we rarely received updates on the process, but rather needed to check in with our loan officer in order to get updates. As first time home buyers, what we really needed was to have professionals who have been through this process time and time again answering questions for us before we knew to ask them. We never were sure who was handling the case during the process and weren't aware of who was doing what job or who we needed to speak to get things done. To top it all off, because of a several day delay in handling paperwork on BECU's and the Escrow company's part, we closed three days later than originally planned. We did not find out that we weren't to close as expected until late afternoon on our original closing day, which was after we'd worked hard to get the notary to us so we could close "on time" and had wired our down payment. This negligence put us out of time and money, caused a delay in vital work being done on the house and was extremely frustrating! If you are desiring to get a home loan, especially as a first time home buyer, go elsewhere. Although it appears to be working for its "members," the BECU Home Loan department doesn't behave as if customer service for their members is very important to them. read more

I joined BECU last year after being at Washington Mutual for 20 years. WaMu effed up one to many times with debit card issues and what not. So me and my husband decided to try BECU. We have a branch right across the street on 21st and Madison in the Safeway. Oof. That Safeway is another story altogether. So we opened our accounts there, ordered our debit cards and were on our way. The first problem happened when one debit card was lost and BECU cancelled both cards and we had zero access to any account. When I went in to the Madison branch the girl belittled me and was unhelpful. I did get upset, was literally healing from a sinus infection...told her I was sick and tired of banks screwing me over and left. I called the corporate offices and told them the employees at the Madison branch were always rude and explained what had happened. The girl at the branch called me five minutes later to offer a temporary atm card, which she should have done while I was there. Afraid for her job maybe? The next issue happened when I forgot my pin number and went to the branch to see if I could reorder a new pin or reset it somehow. At other banks I know you can swipe your card and reset your pin. The girl working there that time got...seriously....finger-waving ghetto on me. "Of course you CAN'T change your pin number and I can't look it up either." Ok. Fine. I go home and call corporate and request a pin change. They were helpful as usual. I explained the girl's rudeness and have never seen her again. Last week I opened a new savings account and deposited 304 in it. I watched the girl...a different girl...count out the money and write it on the deposit slip, agree at the amount, put in in an envelope and say she would put it in the express box. NO receipt was offered and I didn't ask for one, which was my mistake. A week later when I checked online it was 16 clams short. Two days ago I again deposited 422.62 in that same account through the express box. 330 cash, counted TWICE. Text messaged the amount to my husband and messaged him on instant messager on the computer the amounts. Also deposited a 92.62 check. Two days later...one hundred dollars is missing. Also no receipts are available when you use the express box. When I called the member services for the first mess up they said the photo of the deposit slip said 288. ?!?! I watched her write 304?!?! The next photo said 322.62. ?!?! So I count my money TWICE and they can just decide that its one hundred bucks less?! Too suspicious for me. I would strongly advise not banking at BECU. The only remedy they offered was to do a "Research" that would be done in 7-10 days. What would they decide in 7-10 days that they couldn't decide now with two CHANGED deposit slips. They also wouldn't e-mail me a photo of those deposit slips. I think with no receipt I have zero recourse. So BECU can change your deposit slips as they see fit. If they decide to "lose" $116, they can and just write in whatever amount they want and chalk it up to YOUR error. Even if you did not make an error. Oh and a "third party security person" picks up those express slot deposits. Why is it necessary to include a third party? Don't they trust their bank employees? DON'T BANK AT BECU!!!! read more

I joined BECU a few months ago. Thus far, reaching a live customer service banking individual has become an absolute chore and a half! Calling more times than I can count parallels an absolute migraine headache with added double vertigo! I am an extremely busy online business owner, and time is of the essence! When calling for services I need assistance NOW. I recall an individual reminding me about the credit union's convenient local location, so I could just drive to the office if questions occurred. Upon calling, I heard, "We value your time . . . Your expected wait time will be at least 10 minutes." I disconnected the call. After about half an hour, I redialed and heard, "We value your time . . . Your expected wait time will be at least 15 minutes." Again, I disconnected the call. The above-referenced calling circumstance occurred more times than I can count! I thought calling on the weekend may serve better, but the telephone lines were CLOSED! Also, no direct number is available to the local office! At one point in time, I made a note to myself. It read: Tomorrow morning call to wait on hold while preparing for work. Moments later, I thought: I AM IN CONTROL OF MY TIME! Why interrupt my personal clothing, hair, and makeup time WAITING ON HOLD for a credit union that is NEVER AVAIILABLE to assist me? JOYFULLY, I TORE THE NOTE INTO A MILLION PIECES. WHILE SMILING, I TOSSED IT INTO THE RECYCLING BIN! For NUMEROUS SPECIFIC reasons, moving hard earned cash from my current banking institution to this credit union is likely will never occur. My current banking institution always answers their phones 24 x 7 EVERY SINGLE DAY AND NIGHT OF THE YEAR (INCLUDING CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S EVE)! We are currently having a terrible home loan experience. Questions are not being answered, documents are requested multiple times and the loan officer keeps trying to move a loan closing date that is currently 28 days away. How much time could they possibly need. We are anticipating more problems as the closing date nears. I would never work with BECU if I had the chance to do it over and the process has barely started. read more

The fact I have to drive down to Tukwila to cash a check is ridiculous. I'm not sure why they even have people at their other locations sitting behind desks, because they can't do anything. In the past, I've tried to get a cashier's check (no, we can't do that), transfer funds, (another no-no) and of course, get cold hard cash when their ATM isn't working. They are unable to open the ATM and need someone "special" to take care of said ATM. Get a key! Get a key! As I will be driving down to Tukwila today for basic banking needs- cashing a check that their two ATMS in Ballard and Queen Anne won't take plus their ridiculous app (who designed that awful thing?!) AND also to change my pin AND order a new debit card since the whole chunk of plastic is fraying, I will be gritting my teeth. Bank elsewhere for convenience, real banking experience. This place is a joke. Oh, and to add: if you use an ATM at one of their "partner" credit unions, you will be charged a fee for breaking down the money- say a $10 into quarters because BECU brokered their agreement that way. *Facepalm read more
