I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Kaycee, the branch manager, and Francisco, the teller. When my niece and I first arrived, we explained that she had received a check from her high school as an award. Because she is 17 and does not have a bank account, she wanted to sign the check over to me so I could cash it for her. The employee who greeted us at the door told us this would be perfectly fine and directed us to wait in line. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, Francisco informed us that he could not process the transaction. He repeatedly left to speak with Kaycee, the branch manager, and after lengthy discussions continued to tell us "no" without providing a clear explanation. When I requested to speak directly with the manager, I was not assisted, and I ultimately had to approach them myself to try to understand the issue. What made this experience even more frustrating is that I have been a customer for over 10 years, with multiple accounts, investments, and loans through this bank. I have never had a late payment and have maintained an excellent relationship with the institution. I also had more than enough funds in my account to cover the amount of the check, meaning there was virtually no financial risk to the bank. Instead of helping us find a reasonable solution, we were met with resistance at every step. I ultimately had to electronically deposit the check and then withdraw the funds myself because they refused to assist us with a transaction that another employee had already told us was acceptable. To make matters worse, my niece was on her way to prom and needed the money for her evening. The delays and lack of communication caused unnecessary stress and nearly made her late for an important event. I understand that banks have policies and procedures, but the lack of consistency, communication, and customer service shown by both Francisco and Kaycee was unacceptable. After more than a decade as a loyal customer, I expected far better treatment and a much more customer-focused approach. read more

I have brown skin, and in the past, when withdrawing large sums of money through the drive-thru, I've been subjected to additional security questions beyond the standard verification process. After providing my driver's license and code word, I was sometimes asked for information such as my mother's maiden name, employment status, and other questions that did not seem typical for a drive-thru transaction. The other day, I went through the drive-thru and noticed that BECU had hired an African employee. Interestingly, when I withdrew a large sum of money, I provided my driver's license and was only asked for my code word--nothing more. Based on my experiences, I've noticed a difference in how I've been treated during this transaction. The repeated extra questioning in the past has left me feeling that some drive-thru tellers may have treated me differently because of my race. read more

BECU is a terrible place to do any in-depth banking with. They refused to cash a simple check for less than $200 because I was listed as beneficiary. I've been cashing these checks every quarter for over 2 yrs there, but they decided there was a problem all of a sudden. The branch manager even requested that I close my accounts and when I asked for them to provide me security since the amount was over $200,000 they refused. They don't care about you! In short By far their biggest location, with the most services available AFAIK. I've been a very happy customer for 20 years. In long They're not right next door to Boeing, but they're very much in the heart of Boeing country, so they put a big bank on a busy corner right here. A dozen tellers, a couple dozen desks behind there, huge lobby, parking lot big enough for a big supermarket. Multiple drive-through lanes around back. I switched over from full-retail banking about 20 years ago. I've had savings, checking, and 4 car loans through BECU now. I've always had a great experience from beginning to end with everything I've used. Car loans They have lower fees, typically much lower, and always get the best available rate. The online experience is very straightforward--even 15 years after paying off the first one, I can still the records when I log in. You can make payments as early and often as you want, and they just automatically deduct what's due from your checking each month. Unless you're wealthy enough to pay cash, it won't get much easier. Checking/savings/Zelle You can orchestrate pretty much any transaction on these accounts from the web or from the mobile app. The website has gotten really strong over the years--easy to set up a debit card, easy to do anything. I noticed a bug in one transaction type about 12 years ago, emailed them, and it was fixed within a day. (They didn't let you pay your line of credit to zero online, but only for a couple days). Onsite services I've always enjoyed each meeting for car loans, and teller service has always been pleasant and efficient. They really do seem to hire people who are pleasant, and I've never stumped them with any question. They're trained well, too. They even have a coin conversion machine in the outer lobby, which you can use even outside of business hours. You can get multiple types of gift certificate or other stipends out of it. I've needed that only once in 20 years, but it was such a convenience when I did. I really appreciate the pleasant people, low costs/fees, and high functionality with BECU. read more

Had a car loan through BECU. For those years, no complaints, and of course, no interactions. I could never get on the app, but that feedback cycle to nowhere didn't matter to me until we paid off the loan. After paying it off, because I couldn't get online with them, we had to go into a branch to close the account and get the $145 that they'd had us overpay, and which didn't appear on the account until many months after paying off the loan. We waited 40 minutes in the branch, in part because they kept skipping over us, and in part because once we closed the account with a representative, we waited for them to get us a teller for cash. That never did happen, so the representative cut us a check. Five minutes of business took 45 minutes. read more

I have been a BECU customer since 1996 when I joined Boeing and has been good since recently. Few issues with their South Carolina Branch where they can not notarize any document that has to do with real estate including HELOC application for my home in Tacoma which was generated by BECU in Tukwila; the South Carolina branch couldn't even notarized the form for their own loan. Second issue I had was trying to get a VA Home loan apparently they don't offer VA loans in South Carolina but do in Washington. Seems their South Carolina branches cannot offer much support. Then when I tried to deposit a check from Truist on 21Nov only deposited about 60% of the check which I needed the full amount to payoff the HELOC loan that I had just borrowed from. So they put a "Security hold" on the full amount for 5 business days while I am getting charged daily interest on the Heloc loan. Even though I had the full amount in my account I kept incurring interest for those 7 days (5business days). Talk to the Manager and he was like you could of called and might of made an exception and then was oh after reviewing the check would not of made the exception you have never deposited from this institution. If I am trying to payoff the HELOC should allow the full amount to be deposited as a payoff and not wait this 7 days while I'm incurring interest. Then on 12/1/2025 get a letter from BECU for my 11/21 deposit explaining the hold and account will be available 11/27. Why not have a popup explaining this BS process or an email and not a standard letter that is so late arriving. I am seriously looking for a another credit union that will provide all service as other branches and not hold money for so long. If I did a wire transfer would of been instant but cost a lot more. Then using my credit card always getting these security hold when trying to purchase gifts on cyber monday. read more

Every time I come here I'm given a massive wait and treated so (poorly). It's located in a lower class spot. My card was randomly locked, came back twice to fix it and once again locked. They have little games they play every time I come with a simple question or something to do like having my card locked. I'm also noticing the front end team or customer service makes fun of my hair and points towards me gossiping and glancing my way as I sit and wait the time she told me to. I have been a member of BECU since 1992 when it was Boeing Employees Credit Union. That ended today. I have been happy with their services in general. I have been with them through 2 international assignments, several moves to other states, through car loans and credit cards. Recently my daughter got scammed out of $3000 which resulted in a large negative balance on her account. Since I can transfer money in and out of her account I called right away to see if there was any way the scammers could access my account or that BECU would try to retrieve the funds from my account. "Oh no, you are totally separate your money is secure and we would not try to take your money to settle your daughters debt. They lied. Today they took almost $1800 out of my account, without so much as a thank you or by the way. I called. They said the person I spoke with was wrong and that I was out the $1800. Too bad so sad. Well I guess that car loan I was looking at getting will be with someone else. I will take my business and my 857 FICO score someplace else. read more

Had a horrible experience. Please beware that BECU will charge you a late fee without telling you that there is a balance due. And then only notification more than a month later that you are now overdue with the late fee What a scam to make money off it's loyal members Here is the history... Got a notification from BECU on Oct 26 bring charged a bank fee flow $24.75 which was a surprised and not expected. I dug into it and discovered the following 1) My line of credit incurred a balance of $3k on Sept 3rd. Which i was notified 2) I paid off the full balance on Sept 4th. With Line of Credit showing a balance of zero since then 3) BECU apparently charged an interest of $0.75 from the 1 day of overdraft 4) However, the Line of Credit does NOT show the $0.75 for its balance; but still show $0 balance 5) I have received NO notification of this interest charge 6) Then BECU charged me a late fee of $24.75 and notification alert was shown on Oct 26, more than 1.5 months after thr original overdraft on Sept 3rd!!! When I contacted BECU, the Rep said the fee is due me not paying the $0.75 even though they did not notification until it was overdue AND I had no way of knowing I owe the $0.75. I then had to request a waiver for the late fee, which they finally did. But it took a lot of effort on my part, especially when the Rep did not accept the problem with the BECU process I politely then asked the Rep to please ask their IT folks to fix this bug in their software so it will show the correct balance, any interest owed, and notification of balance Due. The Rep just offered to transfer me to their IT Department. I have been a BECU member since 1983 but I will switch to another bank in 2025.... read more

I pay my insurance every 6 months so that meant i pay two time a year but how come in two months they never call me at all just came up with 2340$. read more

I always thought Becu was a cut above the rest until today 12-1-23. my husband needed his amount upped to pay rent and we got a (Karen) on the phone who held us for 14 minutes then hung up the phone. we called back spoke with her supervisor another (Karen)who hung up accidentally also. then they put a hold on funds and said they tried to call when we showed that was a lie, they covered up by calling a hour later after they had played games with our money by placing a hold on it. they had all the info they needed so we got disconnected twice? over all a desent place but their Karen's stick together for sure very disappointed. it was totally uncalled for just people exercising their ugly power with our money read more

It was our impression that Banks and Credit Unions are Federally regulated. BECU doesn't seem to be regulated by any Federal Agency. Infact, the "kids" that work there seem to have complete control over everything. Try to get a straight answer and you have a better chance of winning the Lotto. We have been looking where to move our accounts to and at this point it looks like a regular bank is our only option, as we know they are Federally regulated. We had been with Verity (well operated) before BECU, but they shrunk and had fewer branches. Feds, due diligence please. No one should have to do a posting to get the attention of Federal Regulators. BECU employees have no idea what is going on half the time. I literally drove 15 miles and wasted over a half an hour of my life over the fact that I had some change that I needed counted. First I went to the the Lynnwood location, where they told me they do not have tellers so that I could not have them count my change, which was exactly $50 in mostly quarters, and dollar coins. I was told to go to the Evergreen location in Everett WA. So I drove to that location where I told a kind lady at the door that I have change I need counted and deposited, I even held up the bag of change to show her and she said that will be fine and directed me to the teller line. I then waited in line for around 10 mins. When I got to the teller she told me that they don't have a change counter, and that they are "not allowed to have that much change" and that it needs to be rolled in order to be deposited. So in short, a credit union refused to deposit my money. I will be closing my account with BECU as soon as possible. read more

Not what they used to be! Poor customer service, disorganized and clueless! Incompetent, shady and dishonest.

My wife and I have been members of BECU for nearly two decades. Their service is consistently professional and courteous. We have had multiple car loans and now a home equity line of credit through them, in addition to a credit card, savings and checking accounts. We always give them a chance to earn our business on new loans, they dont always get it (rates are fair, not always the lowest) but when they do the experience is always painless. As a perfect example, on our HELOC that we just opened, they were able to rush paperwork through for us since we have moved to California but would be visiting Seattle the following week. We made an appointment, dropped in right when they opened, signed and left all within 15 minutes. Rate was competitive and service as always was fantastic. 3 weeks start to finish. We now have fantastic credit and other credit unions always beat BECU on auto rates. But when our credit was simply average to good, BECU was unbeatable. I recommend BECU to anyone that wants a consistent banking experience... the kind of banking experience that the big name financial institutions advertise but fail to deliver. read more

We were membes of BECU for over 20 years. In 2021 we closed our accounts because we moved out of WA. 18 months later we started receiving notices of a past due payment on the credit card closed in 2021, $800. I called to report it as fraud. I called again. Because I no longer have open accounts, the Rep even had a hard time finding our closed accounts. Again I said this is Fraud, the person said No, you need to pay it!!!!! I asked for a copy of the receipt, asked what this charge was for, the Rep could not provide any information, just kept saying, pay the charge!! I asked for a Supervisor and was told one would call me back. Never called. I wrote a letter. No response. Today I found out BECU reported failure to pay to credit reporting organizations. This is nothing but extortion. So disappointing. Don't bank here. If you have a problem there is NO ONE able to help you. Horrible service. read more

I tried to set up a BECU account because they're closer to my house. They refused to set up an account for me without my social security card because I attempted to start one online before going into the branch. They told me that I might be committing fraud despite having multiple photo IDs, bills stating my address, and even investment documents with me. I'm 36 years old and have never had physical copies of my social security card. I just have it memorized. I have a career for over 10 years and certainly have held multiple other credit union and bank accounts. I've been able to pay off loans andpurchase cars, have great credit, and I just purchased a home all without needing this card. I am not willing to go sit in the Social Security office so that I can open a credit union account to have my money sit in. It is literally the only time in my life I have been asked to produce this. The teller was very smug about this requirement. It is ridiculous to me that they cannot override this when I'm in person with multiple ways to prove who I am. Ultimately I should have avoided this Credit Union to begin with. Their origins are deeply tied with the military industrial complex. As much as Beoing is tied to the local economy they make machines that are used to murder civilians around the world. Better to support a smaller Credit Union with ties to a more noble origin. read more

So my boyfriend goes to this bank to pay his car & a situation had happen. So he came up to the window and told the teller that he needed to do an auto payment, and she threw her hands up in the air and shakes her head like if she was saying "omg really now" I've been here many times on a Saturday & no workers gave me that type of gesture. She did what she needed to do but even if it was a long process, it's your job to do so. So at the end she ended up being nice to me & suggested other options on how he can pay for it. I'm giving this 3 stars because the person who always helps us ( it's always a coincidence to be the same person ) is always very helpful. He always starts up a conversation & does his job at the same time. The lady ( no need to say names ) need to be just like him. Good Customer service!!!!! Every time I get a car loan I pray that it doesn't get sent to BECU, actually I request that it doesn't get sent there. It was next to impossible to pay off the $7 and change I owed for my last payment. Apparently they had the incorrect mothers maiden name, which come to find out they misspelled (go figure) so they couldn't verify me over the phone. Oh and those phone wait times, I could've done my morning workout in that period of time. I go in to this place and they gave me the run around on how to make the final payment. So I ended mailing a check. Side note if you walk in this place it has the feeling of the DMV/DOL or even a prison lobby nobody wants to be there but they have to even the workers. Anyways, this business model is not sustainable and that's why I recommend Alaska USA or Navy Federal. Those employees really understand how to communicate. read more

BECU's IT department is constantly messing things up. First they botched the separation of business and personal accounts resulting in loss of access to my business account for days. Now it looks like they have moved access to mortgage payments and the other bank account that I have paid from no longer shows up on the app. If you need phone help to resolve the problems that they cause, plan on a long hold time. Who ever is in charge at BECU needs to rein in (fire) their IT department ASAP! read more

Now for this review sadly, it was an awful experience. I rarely write negative reviews and I couldn't help but write this review as soon as I left the BECU. The reason I went in was to ask about refinancing my loan. This isn't something I'm familiar with so I wasn't all too confident about what questions to ask. ANGIE, is the "awesome" employee that I was luckily matched with. She made me feel like an absolute stupid little rock. The entire time, I felt like she was talking down to me. She answered my questions with an attitude and simplicity as though a 5 year old was asking the questions. Her voice when she answered my questions reminded me of the way a pissed off parent would talk to their kid when their kid ask a silly question like "Mom, should I wipe the mud off my shoes or just come inside the house and track mud everywhere?" Like of course you should wipe off your shoes. I walked into BECU for help and questions because I wasn't too familiar with how refinancing my load would work. I'm a younger person and I'm still learning about this kind of stuff. I have questions and they don't teach you this stuff in school. What I got instead, was the feeling of embarrassment and anger. BECU wouldn't allow me to stay in their building with my face shield and not a mask, even after I explained that I have angioedema and the heat from the mask triggers an angioedema attack. I carry an Epipen in case my throat completely closes. I have never had anyone challenge my face shield until now. There are legitimate exceptions, but BECU won't acknowledge them. Maybe I need to find another home for my money. read more

They cross train in multiple departments, so employees are generally more knowledgeable than any other big institutions. My card was cut off the second time in two days, and two days before that had also been cut off with zero notice and no phone call to confirm the charges. I went in person to a BECU location today and specifically informed them that I would be spending a large amount of money today. I was also assured that I would be called if my card were shut off. I am extremely dissatisfied with BECUs security measures, especially since I went in person to make sure my card would not be cut off. I am forced to be without funds until the next open business hours, two days from now. Thank god my car already has gas in it. They could help by having 24 hour representatives to deal with this exact thing, since a card can be cut off anytime, 24 hours a day. This should not be happening this often. This should definitely not happen if I went in and specifically addressed this exact issue. read more

Hate this bank and location. My auto loan is through them and I can't wait to have it paid off so I don't have to deal with them anymore. I can't set up an online profile to pay my car payment through the app because I don't have an actual bank account with them. Any time I go into the branch the line is almost through the front door which is about a 30 min wait every time before you see the teller. Same with drive through. Never seems like they have enough staff working or working faster for the volume of people they see. Will never deal with this place again once my load is done! But until I can man up and close my account in HI, I choose to do banking here at Becu. They are professional, quick, and always have great customer service.
