Came here because we were told they have amazing pies. After eating lunch we decided to skip on the pie. We thought we found a place with home-style cooking, but we were wrong. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich and received the same deep-fried, previously frozen piece of chicken that my daughter did in her kids meal. Definitely not hand breaded. Make sure you wait OUTSIDE to be seated. We watched the hostess get very upset, snicker, and make side comments to other staff and guests about people that didn't do so. Since the hostess stand was frequently vacant and the sign wasn't clear to stay outside, many people did not know to do so. I watched one customer walk in pass the hostess stand. The hostess asked what she was doing and told her there was a list. The lady explained that she was meeting others there and she spotted them. The hostess was still flabbergasted and upset that she didn't stop at the hostess stand to let her know. We watched another lady leave because the hostess told her she wrongly stepped inside to place a to-go order and there was a list. Don't let the quaintness fool you. This cafe could range from 2-5 stars depending on who you are. If you are a rich Californian driving up here with the kids to spend a day skiing or visiting Crater Lake then yes, it's 5-stars and a good place to stop because throwing down over $100 for a family of four to eat is nothing. It's chump change. But what do you get for this? A Kid's-meal size meal. When I was given the hamburger I wondered why it was so small for $15 and I had to pay extra for fries. I am not the client they envision for their business model. I'm a middle-class working stiff. At least make the fries included with the meal like 99% of all restaurants and not have the hamburger the diameter and thickness of a basic McDonald's burger. Stopped by for take-out since the indoor seating area is closed. They have a walk-up window for ordering, and the waiting area is in a lovely area full of large trees with the sounds of a nearby stream (when there is no traffic on the road). The menus are clearly visible outside so you can decide what you want before getting to the window. This was worth the drive from the Crater Lake Lodge for dinner (and better food)! We tried the BLT (crunchy thick bacon, excellent sandwich), Reuben (very tasty), and regular cheeseburger (also tasty), and would happily eat any of these again. Jalapeno poppers were super hot (temperature, not spicy) and stuffed full of cheesy filling, everything we hoped for. Onion rings were crunchy and well-cooked and came with ranch dressing for dipping. Fries were just boring shoestring fries; I'm glad I did the upgrade for the onion rings. We also lucked out that there was a whole blackberry pie available, and it was still warm! The pie came in a nice metal tin too, which I am considering to be a bonus souvenir. As noted by other reviewers, take-out is served in styrofoam clamshell boxes, which was disappointing since those are not recyclable. This is a must stop if you are hungry and want Good home style cooking. We were camp about 12 miles away and eat here about 4 times in our 12 day stay. We had something different very time we stopped here and everything was Great tasting. BUT if you are not real hungry and you have a sweet teeth you MUST have one of many homemade pies. The last night we were there we were able to have their huckleberry pie with ice cream. It was the Best I have every had. When we are back in the area, we will be back. . . We stopped at this place on the way out of Crater Lake National Park. The service was NON EXISTENT. They had a sign that said "wait here to be seated" and no one ever came out to greet us. We finally went up to the counter and said we were waiting for a table. The employee rudely says "yeah there's like 7 groups already waiting." They clearly did not want or could handle anymore business. Given they only had like 5 tables in the whole restaurant, waiting for 7 groups would have taken forever. This place has character. It was 7:38 and we noticed the sign said it closes at 8. I asked if they were still seating and the sweet server said, no one leaves hungry and we could sit anywhere. During our dinner we noticed this guy that sat at the bar and he talked to us almost the entire time. He told us he lives there. He's the area's handyman. Nice guy. It came with a roll, soup or salad, potato and veggies. My hubby and I split the meal. He wanted to try their homemade bowl of chili and cornbread. Our mistake was to order the Very Berry pie to take home along with a slice of apple pie. I used our very long hikes that day as an excuse to eat like pigs. Menu meal combinations are fixed. There was no one or two eggs and toast or a single pancake on the menu. So my wife ordered biscuits and gravy after being told the biscuits are home made. The biscuits were dry and my wife didn't want to burn the calories on them so she asked the waitress if she could just get a pancake. The waitress said they couldn't do that. So we asked if there was a manager and the waitress said she didn't know but she would check. A while later the manager did come over and told us he would have made us a pancake but by then everyone had finished their meal and we were ready to go. So for us, the two biggest issues are the fixed menu combinations and the unhelpful waitress. We also think the chef needs to get a new biscuit recipe. We won't be back. read more

We were traveling through Crater Lake National Park on our way to Medford for the night. We did an impromptu stop here. We ordered the chili with cheese, onions & cornbread with butter & honey. She has homemade pies but we were both full after eating! She has picnic tables set all around. It's very pretty with the pine trees all around. The pine smell is great too. This review is mainly for their chuck wagon amazing bbq. (There isn't much selection of food in the area towards crater lake; in fact it was probably the only we saw. Next one up would be at the village inside crater lake park.) We stayed at the union creek lodge right in front of the wagon, so every morning we could smell the bbq master jump starting the day. Smells amazing with natural wood smoke floating in the air. It's literally a wagon setup and the master makes delicioius bbq meats from it. He's only there friday, saturday and sunday in the spring and summer time 11-7. His menu consists of brisket, ribs, pulled pork and grilled chicken. For about $12 you get meat, toast, two sides and a drink. I got to try them all since we were there for two nights! ribs- soft and tasty, you can taste the natural smokey flavor from the bbq brisket-served up as long thin slices, it's not as fatty as I usually get it but it was full of smokey flavor pulled pork-yet again you can taste the natural smokey flavor--ssoo tasty and easily pulls apart grilled chicken-I was skeptical about getting white meat, but practically a whole half chicken is served up and it was amazingly tasty and full of flavor. The white meat tasted better than the dark meat o_x The master even makes funnel cake out of his wagon just like the ones you get from a carnival served with whipped cream and strawberries. There is nothing I would change about the wagon. Everything was tasty and you get dine outside the tables, overlooking the creek that flows through. The one thing I did get from Beckie's was the overpriced and overhyped pie. I wanted to try a slice since the reviews were raving about it. I tasted a slice of pecan pie which set me back about $6 for just a slice. It wasn't all the impressive to me. Felt there was too much syrup. Instead of whole pecans, chopped pecans were used. Perfect stop along the way to crater lake, especially if you don't want to eat at the lodge (food poisoning!). This place gets super busy on the weekends and meal times but if you time it right and don't have a big group, it's easy to snag a table. We tried a little bit of everything. The blue cheese burger was one of the many options for burgers and if you like that cheese, you love the burger. It comes with a side of chips or fries but you can upgrade them to a salad or onion rings for a little extra. The onion rings were very tasty and come with a side of ranch if you're not into ketchup. They were actually crispy and not over battered. The BLT and most of the sandwiches are very large portions. I could only eat half, so I split with a table mate, which is a $2 fee and they don't even serve it on separate plates. The daily soup specials change and effect your options on half sandwich and soup or soup and salad. Save room for some pie. This spot is a gem. We found it en route to Crater Lake 2 years ago, and I remembered it so vividly that I came back this time. Due to COVID, it is outdoor seating only, but there are some great picnic benches right outside the order window. I had the veggie burger, which was solid after a hot day at the lake. The pies here are amazing to me. We had a group, so we just split a giant marionberry pie. It lasted us almost 3 days, including for breakfast once! We went to Crater Lake for two days last summer. Both days, we went to Beckie's. The first time was by accident; the second time was by design. We would have gone again, but it was closed by the time we got there that night. The burgers were great, the chicken strips were amazing, the fries are our favorite kind, long and skinny, very crispy and tasteful. The pies were also very, very good. Unfortunately, since they are hand-made, when they run out, they're out for good. I wanted the chocolate pie both nights, and both nights they were out. Sigh. Although the night I ordered peanut butter cream, it was the last one in the tin, and looked a little deformed due to being, well, the last one in the tin. So she gave it to me for free. It was still exceptionally delicious. Sometimes we'll be at home 180 miles away, and my wife will idly muse about making the drive to Beckie's for dinner and pie. Somedays, it's pretty hard for me to say that's a silly idea. It really is that damn good. Of course, the restaurant itself is pretty small. It's also on pretty much the only main road to get to Crater Lake and points beyond, or vice-versa. That being said, it can get crowded, because it just looks like an inviting place. The wait can be obnoxious, only because you know that good food is inside, waiting for you. But it's worth it. The river behind the place is gorgeous and it's out in the mountains. I stopped at Beckie's for a slice of pie after hearing from the locals to definitely take a trip there. I can say that I don't think it was worth it. The per slice price is quite high, so I had high expectations for a pie slice that's $8-9 a piece. I tried the peach pie with ice cream on top and my partner got the chocolate cream pie. The chocolate cream pie tasted like it used Hershey's chocolate (plus it had a Hershey's chocolate bar as a garnish on top), which is pretty low tier (contains ingredients like PGPR instead of cocoa butter as an example). The peach pie I had was just ok. The peach filling was decently spiced but too sweet (peaches are naturally sweet & doesn't need that much extra sugar...or in this case I suspect corn syrup....), but the crust was more of a "dough blob" than flavorful or added anything to the pie, in fact, I think it detracted from the pie. The crust did look house-made. The ice cream tasted like it was just from a store-brand tub vs. made in house. I'd expect for that price tag they'd have house made ice cream vs. store bought. 3 other points that I wasn't pleased with - 1) Their parking lot is small. If they have auxiliary parking, it's not obvious where that is. With how popular this place is, I think it's a roll of the dice as to whether you can find parking or not. The lot is also narrow, and doesn't allow you a lot of maneuverability before you're out on the highway right next to Beckie's. 2) If you're eco-conscious like I am, you'll be dismayed to find that Beckie's serves all their food in styrofoam boxes (which almost no one recycles) & uses plastic cutlery. The guests litter the styrofoam and plastic cutlery all over the forest floor around the cafe. There are other options available for to-go containers/cutlery. 3) I looked on the side of their building and saw that their grill exhaust had a trail of grease dripping off of the bottom of the exhaust onto the side of the building and then pooling on the ground. It was, of course, rancid and had a strong enough smell that I could detect it in a forest area. I'm sure this attracts flies and other vermin. This should be cleaned. read more

The food is going to be food here. What you go for is the pie. I've never considered myself a pie person nor would I ever pick pie over soft serve. But hearing the raving reviews and stories about Beckie's Pies, I had to order pie! Their huckleberry pie is seasonal in the fall. They make as much as they can based off on how many berries they can get a hold of and they sell out within 3 weeks. That's a great story of a local favorite, too bad I can't be included. The reason why fruit pies don't appeal to me is because visually the texture of overly sweetened fake fruit preserves oozing out of brittle pie crusts doesn't strike me as appetizing. I ordered the blackberry pie. It didn't have me jumping out of my chair in exaltation of how this pie is better than my grandma's 7th generation blue-ribbon-county-fair-winner secret pie recipe and how an exchange in pie recipes ought to be put in order. The first bite gave me a puzzled feeling which prompted me to take another bite. Halfway into the pie, I realized the confusion I was experiencing was actually the feeling of eating good pie. The filling was not too sweet, a little tart, slightly nutty from the blackberry seeds with the crust being a well-balanced combination of a toasted flaky exterior with a moist and warm interior. Apparently Beckie's is under new ownership. We had a team of 13 volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in Medford. Heard great things about Beckie's so our team leader called well in advance to see if we could make a reservation. We were told no reservations needed. We again called when arrive to Medford and again were told no reservations needed but for 13 it would be best to come around 4 for dinner. We arrived at 4:00 and they appeared shocked that we would come in with 13 people. We asked if we could eat at picnic tables outside they said no we do t serve outside. We decided to just have pie and go somewhere else for dinner, after all they are known for pie. Another lady came and told us all 13 people did not need to be inside to order pie and told us to leave. This was not done in a polite manner. Everyone was appalled as to how we were treated and not a one of us chose to stay for pie. What a missed opportunity for business. I personally have never been treated so rudely at an eating establishment! Back in Medford we heard from multiple locals that it is just not the same although the pie is still good. I would not recommend Beckie's as a place to stop while visiting crater lake. read more

I love this place. When my husband and I went to Crater Lake to celebrate our anniversary, I bookmarked a couple restaurants nearby including this one. The restaurant is housed in a small log cabin and has a very welcoming feel to it. Since it was so busy when we stopped by on a Saturday, we opted to sit at the bar. (There is only a BBQ place and another restaurant nearby, so the choices are limited.) We got to sit next to a lovely old couple, who told us that Beckie is named after a person with the last name Beckworth. When they travel to Eugene from Medford, they always stop of Beckie's. I had a small cup of chili and the hubby had a hamburger, both good. The food doesn't have the oily taste that happens at most diners. We ended our meal by enjoying a slice of Huckleberry pie (see photo included). We were lucky it was in season! An entire Huckleberry pie can cost you upwards of $40. I'm glad I went for it, it tastes unlike the huckelberry chocolate offered at most tourist locations. read more

Took a ride up to Union Creek today to taste the food at Becky's. Haven't been up this way since i last hunted deer with my step-father, many years ago. It's said that for the upcoming summer tourist season, they're already pretty booked as far as reservations go. As we arrived, it started snowing and sticking to the ground (elevation is roughly 3300 ft ). What a place to eat at, while watching the snow fall in the quietness of the Rogue River National Forest wilderness! Ordered the Ortega burger and the Roast Beef Sandwich, with mashed potatoes and gravy (served open-faced with plenty of gravy to go 'round). We were recommended we come to Beckie's for their pies on our trip to Crater Lake. We stopped by after our hike and we were pretty hungry. We ordered a couple burgers and slices of pie. The burgers were fantastic. They were juicy, oozing with melted cheese, the bacon was super crisp. Excellent burgers here. I got the cinnamon potato chips, which were nice and crispy, with just a subtle hint of cinnamon. My husband ordered the fries, which was a giant mound and were fresh and delicious. We ordered two slices of pie a la mode for dessert. I got apple and my husband had the boysenberry. The pies were good, but not amazing. I like my crust a little flakier and crispier. The apple was good, with a gooey filling and a little bit of bite still in the apples. The boysenberry pie was a good balance of sweet and tart. You can't go wrong with a nice big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. They have a ton of picnic tables outside under the trees. For a roadside restaurant, it's quite scenic. The staff are super nice. I would return if I were visiting Crater Lake, but then again there aren't any other food options. read more

My girlfriends and I went to Beckie's Cafe for breakfast after spending the night at the Union Creek Resort across the street. This place is SUPER cute, I really wanted to like it here, but the flavor of the food unfortunately fell flat. They don't exactly have a lot of competition in the area, I think the closest food options are in Prospect which is 11 miles down the road, so if you want something close and you are staying at Union Creek this is about all there is! I would love to give them a second chance though, especially when their huckleberry pie is on the menu (wasn't available when we were there), The inside of the restaurant is great, good ambiance, and has a nice, cozy lodge feel to it. The service was decent as well, with average breakfast fare on the menu. I got their Cinnamon Roll French Toast, one of my other friends had an omlette, my other friend got biscuits and gravy, and my last friend got the hashbrowns/eggs/sausage classic breakfast. The wait time for the food was appropriate, and when it got to the table it looked amazing!! I was super excited to try it, but when I did...huh, not great...definitely a lack of flavor. My french toast should have been sweeter, it seemed like there was just something missing...I ate about half of it then traded dishes with the other girls. I tried the biscuits and gravy, and....same thing. They looked like they should taste phenomenal, however there was just something lacking, some element of flavor that just wasn't there...salt, maybe? So I tried the next dish, the hashbrowns and eggs, and....same. OK tasting, but just seriously lacking in flavor, should definitely have more substantial taste than just, blah. It was odd as the food LOOKED good, but like I said something was just missing. Like I said I really WANTED to like this place, so I'm sure if I'm in the area I would give them another try, maybe for lunch or dinner next time. Phenomenal! Very kind staff and quick service. They offer huckleberry lemonade! We shared the mozzarella sticks and still have two left over. My son got the French dip (not pictured), my daughter got the corn dog kids meal, it's what you would expect, but I love that they put the kids drinks in disposable plastic cups with lids and short straws, and they give the kids a menu they can color! My husband got the Fire on a Mountain burger, it was huge, just look at the photo! I got the fish and chips.
