John Fulkerson ended my 8 month ordeal around 5 years ago where I went to 3 doctors over and over…read moreagain in Philadelphia which kept on telling me that there was nothing wrong with me or that there was nothing that they could do for me. I was at wits end. It seemed like my mother was the only person who believed that there was really a something wrong with not only my right knee, but my left knee. I hurt myself really badly playing basketball. I hurt both knees on the same day. I couldn't believe it. I had played sports 5 days a week for my whole life. Then I couldn't even walk a block without walking b/c of all the pain. It was so depressing. The doctors at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia told me there was nothing wrong with me. I think I saw them 4 times. I saw Dr. Larry Miller around 5 times. The kicker I had to keep waiting 3-4 weeks in between appointments hoping that the next time would be different. I couldn't give up. I finally decided to try someone else. Someone said that he was one of the best on the east coast. He also fit me in right away. I remember to this day it was November 20th. I was injured in February. from February to November 20th barely able to walk in pain. Then Dr Fulterson (I remember this like it was yesterday) He read my MRI...and felt my right knee. There were two areas of distinct pain. He said you definitely have some torn cartilage. He also said that there may be two tears. He said the pain that I was having was not from the exact area was showing the tear on the MRI. He then said that I can operate on the 26th of November. So after 8 months of agony and helplessness in one visit I had someone who verified that there was a problem and that he would try and fix it. That he offered to do it 6 days later. I felt like he cared so much. I wound up getting a 5th opinion from the Texas Rangers Baseball Club team orthopedist and he concurred that there was some kind of tear by just reading the MRI. He recommended I get the surgery done by Dr. Paul Sethi in Greenwich. I went to Dr. Sethi who also gave me a half hour and went all over the MRI and felt my knee. Dr. Sethi fit me in and did the surgery which lasted 2 hours longer then he thought it would take. I had both a torn meniscus and torn articular cartilage that lined the femor. I was on crutches for 4 weeks and had rehab of another 18 months. He also performed surgery on a minor lateral meniscus tear on my left knee. I know walk without pain after going through 16 months of almost not being able to walk a block without crying. Dr. Fulkerson was the first one who made me feel like I wasn't crazy. Dr. Freedman of Jefferson in Phila told me that if I kept on looking and seeing enough doctors that I would find something even though there was nothing to find. He told me I was on a wild goose chase. My mom and I disagreed. I just want to thank Dr. Fulkerson for being there for me when I really needed him. There are doctors and then there are doctors who care. He is in the second category. thank you!

This is a great place for physical therapy. First and foremost, the physical therapists I've…read moreworked with really know their stuff. I've worked with Stephany mostly, but also had a session with Katie. Their training (MPT, DPT) and experience (24 years for Stephany) enable them to home in surprisingly quickly on causes of pain. My right shoulder has been really hurting after a fall. The usual culprits, muscle trauma and arthritis, are major sources of this pain. But Stephany soon realized that a pinched nerve in my cervical spine is also causing substantial pain. She's given me a menu of stretching and extension exercises that are simple and effective. And after she has worked on--manipulated--my shoulder for a while, I leave PTSMC feeling decidedly better. Katie worked with me one time when Stephany was unavailable. She had thoroughly discussed my problems with Stephany beforehand, and I got the same level of expert therapy guidance from Katie as I had experienced with Stephany. Stephany and Katie are pleasant and patient. Sidney and Sam at the front desk are pleasant and invariably helpful. The studio itself is bright with plenty of outside light streaming in through the windows, well laid out, and clean. After years of physical therapy that was annoying, but necessary, I consider myself very lucky to have come across PTSMC, where I actually look forward to my physical therapy sessions. Five stars and three thumbs up.

After physical therapy worsened my pain, my follow-up visit was the complete opposite--my symptoms were dismissed, I was told nothing was wrong, and that I should just work out more. I was also told that surgery had never been discussed. When I mentioned I was in pain and could not walk he said yes you can you're not in pain. Go home and take a Tylenol. Your spine is perfect you are so lucky. I later obtained a second opinion and was diagnosed with a condition requiring spinal fusion, with clear warnings that delaying surgery could result in permanent nerve damage. I have never been spoken to so dismissively in a medical setting. If you are dealing with ongoing pain or neurological symptoms, I strongly urge you to seek another opinion rather than relying solely on this provider.

He performed the surgery and I was walking post operatively within hours. For a man w a brother who is paralyzed, I was ecstatic with my results. Needless to say after being in a serious car accident at over 65 mph, I sought him out for my care. The ER didx prays and CT scan which was inconclusive. I saw Dr. Yannopoulos and he prescribed PT after an MRI review. After PE I was still having symtomsof radiating numbness on my right side of my neck radiating down through my shoulder region. He had x-rays taken in his office and reviewed them w me. In his opinion I had nothing wrong...I have a muscular strain and "get back to living your life" was said to me. He then through his body against the wall in the exam room several time to illustrate how my body was injured in the crash. He went on a tirade about all of this and was very theatrical to say the least. He was loud, obnoxious and very disrespectful. I sat there thinking... why on earth do you think I drove across the state to see this man? I had total confidence in him after my discectomy and it had been over 20 years since. Did he think I was faking it to milk the insurance company??? I asked for more PT but he refused saying my problem was muscular and it wouldn't help. In my mind I had these symptoms that he didn't recognize. I didn't understand his loud and flamboyant response to my symptoms. It didn't make sense to me. I reiterated my symptoms several times and asked about acupuncture and massage. He completely dismissed the idea saying they ere quacks and that he knows what's good for me. I was appalled to say the least. This doctor who made me whole again so many years ago was no longer in the room. He wasn't listening to me, he was dictating my evaluation. I will never see this man again. My pain is real. As I tried to explain my pain and symptoms he belittled me to the point of embarrassment. I worked my entire life and am entering into retirement. I would never recommend this man to anyone. Once upon a time he was a brilliant surgeon who performed a miracle on me. Now he is a loud, offensive, arrogant, disgruntled individual who should have retired years ago before the bitterness took over. Stay away!!! Dave B.
