Nothing like a family run business for over the top service! Here it is, no edits... I called GKA Lighting in Milwaukie, OR and talked to JR, proprietor. He said he could probably fix my brass lamp switch while I waited. Indeed, it took him about 10 minutes, tops. A very interesting man with a degree in architecture, JR does antique & period lighting, restoration and repair, custom light fixture design and manufacturing.. His business has all kinds of lamp shades, oddities and antique lamps. A great resource. FIVE STARS ! Diane Nealey Portland. Oregon

While Globe Lighting has lots more styles and designs online, when buying expensive lighting it's a good idea to see it in person so you can gauge the size, proportion, color and span of light. Chandeliers, pendent lights, lighting fixtures can totally transform a room, become the wow feature and set the style for the space so making the right selection is critical. Was greeted the second I stepped through the door by a sales woman asking if I was finding everything I needed. A silly question since I was only in the store 2 seconds! Better to just say, "Welcome, is there something I can help you find?" Or better yet, "Welcome, please let me know if you would like assistance finding something." For me it's such a turnoff to feel like pray when I enter a store! I give the saleswomen credit for apologizing for the "attack." Her words, not mine; but accurate. I know most reviewers complain when they are not greeted upon entry; I'm not one of them! Could care less whether you say hello; just be available and thorough when I have questions. Lighting styles are evolving and I was hoping to find more mid-century modern lights with clean simple lines. They had lots of dark metal, farmhouse, and traditional style lights. Some ultra modern and space age LED lighting, but not as many options for transitional or mid-century. We ended up going with a chandelier we found online after carefully measuring and comparing to current lights. While there, I approached a different salesperson with questions about a bathroom light fixture in my home, one I am having difficulty taking apart to change out the bulbs. Yea, I know that sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it's not! He was super thorough, provided detailed instructions and even gave me options to consider if I wanted to swap the bulbs for an LED strip. All in all, a trip to Globe is worth it when looking for new lighting to see lighting up close and to get guidance from the experts who work there. Globe also has a variety of hardware for cabinets, numbers for the exterior of your house, outdoor lighting, and even home decor lurking in between and around the lamps. So walk around with a keen eye, you never know what you may discover.

I had to chase her down to place an order, she seemed very un-motivated to sell lights. I paid for the lights, in full, and left. I didn't hear back from them for a month, so I decided to walk in there and see what was going on. I spoke to the front desk person. I explained that I hadn't heard back from them regarding my lights. She looked puzzled, then started rooting around on her cluttered desk, and said "oh, there is is!", and picked up a package, which had been sitting there for god knows how long. I explained that I paid for 3 lights. She looked disinterested, and told me she would call the supplier the next day and give me a call. Another month past, no phone call, so again I decided to go to the store. The same front desk person was there, and she looked up my order, one of the lights she said had been discontinued, and the other she wasn't sure why it hadn't been shipped. She promised to call them the next day. Another month past, and I returned. She hadn't done anything with my order, so I requested, and was given, a refund. 3 months wasted. I want to update that review because Portland Metro Electric ultimately went above and beyond to address my concerns. I originally called because I was experiencing flickering lights and was concerned that several appliances seemed to be having problems at the same time. The electrician evaluated my electrical panel and did not find a problem with it. During the visit, he suggested adding a whole-house surge protector as an additional precaution, and I agreed to have it installed. Afterward, I had concerns about the $450 charge for the surge protector, as well as the fact that I wasn't informed about the 3% credit-card fee until I was ready to pay. I contacted the company and explained my concerns. The owner took my concerns seriously and ultimately provided a total adjustment of $450. I genuinely appreciate that he was willing to listen, work with me, and continue addressing the situation rather than simply dismissing my concerns. While I wasn't completely satisfied with the initial experience, I am very satisfied with how Portland Metro Electric ultimately handled my concerns. They demonstrated that they care about their customers and are willing to make things right when a customer feels something wasn't handled appropriately. I'm updating my review to five stars because of the way the company ultimately stood behind its service and worked with me to reach a resolution. I found Winner Electric on Yelp search while looking for electricians in the east-of-Portland area…read more I needed an assortment of electrical issues addressed on my home. Open junctions, inoperable outlets and switches, questionable wiring, and unfinished projects: these are some of the trappings of owning an older home. Paul came out to do an estimate on our project. I had the project bid by multiple companies. Winner's attitude, willingness to take on the project, and prompt follow up with a quote earned them the job. We had a scheduling mishap, but I won't take stars off for that. It was resolved quickly. I am super happy with the work completed. The electricians came out and worked most of the day in all areas of my home. They replaced breakers, outlets, switches, and resolved loose and unsafe wiring that was downstairs and in my garage. Winner answered my questions, and if something didn't seem right, they worked together to find the root cause of the issue rather than applying a workaround. I was so happy with the work completed, that I hired Winner back a second time, a couple weeks later, to complete the wiring to an outbuilding and reconfigure the wiring in my garage. That work was largely completed Friday - waiting on a part to finish up a couple aspects, but I'm happy with this work as well. I would use their services again, and I would recommend to others.
