Food was nasty. I make better Kraft Mac and Cheese and Walmart penne at home. Chocolate mousse wasn't sweet at all. It tasted spoiled or like a bunch of chemicals. The biggest problem was the owner. I had to sneakily take these photos. He doesn't allow phones out to take videos or pictures. He told me to put my phone away while I was trying to take pictures for Yelp. He thinks photos and video will be shared with his competitors and they'll steal his recipes or menus or something. What a joke. Ever played find the Salmon? OK, I was so excited to try this place & it was not good at all. This is not authentic Italian food at all. It's lower quality than Olive Garden for 5 times the price. Most of the positive reviews have to be fake or from people who think Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food. Let me preface this by saying I was born in Paris France & half Sicilian. I have travelled all over the world and eaten at some of the best Michelin star restaurants as well as hole in the walls that have astonishing foods so I'm not a food snob by any means but I judge food based on the price they charge for it, & prices here are in line with some of the top steakhouses & restaurants in the U.S. I know real Italian food. This was not it. My wife who was there was a top chef in Ukraine. First, they don't serve any sodas. OK, weird, but obviously they are hoping that you will choose wine instead. Second, they give you a little bucket of bread & if you want more, it's $8. Seriously? It literally had 6 pieces of bread. 2 were breadsticks and 2 were smaller than my palm. Third: They give you a free amuse bouche which looked like what a small dog would make when going out. It tasted OK but refused to tell us what it was. My bouche was not amused. The beef carpaccio was not very rare. It had no pesto or capers but buried under salad (see photo). I ordered the pasta with salmon with vodka sauce & black & red caviar. The pasta was not homemade. Then it was a game of find the salmon. The salmon was diced smaller than little cubed ham you get in a bag & it was super salty. (see photo) The vodka sauce was bland & white. I assume they thought the salmon was so salty as well as the caviar (if it was caviar, I couldn't taste it), it would make up for the sauce. Salt doesn't mean seasoned. For a small bowl that costs $45, it should be homemade pasta oozing with flavor. Not even close. We ordered the special which was shrimp in an orange sauce & it was literally 5 medium size shrimps cooked in a watery orange sauce & 3 pieces of bread. No pasta. Cost? $48. (See photo) And worst part, the shrimps were low quality & had huge intestinal tracks filled with poop. The owner had the guts to tell me that's the best shrimp you can get in Tampa & they are all like that. You cannot be serious. I can get better shrimp at Publix or got to Lotts Plaza in Wesley Chapel. Come on dude. Just apologize & don't try to make lame excuses like that. Only good thing was the steak tartare which was actually very good, (see photo) & the way they cook a few of the items table side. The place is smaller than what photos makes it look like & not as clean or as good of shape. Finally, they didn't pick up the menus until after meals was done & water carafe was dirty and empty way before the end of our meal & never refilled. You couldn't see through it. (See photo). Wonder if they would have charged extra for water refill like they do bread. Conclusion: Don't waste your money. Most dishes are $45 & up & for that price, every bite should be delicious & shouldn't be the size of a small bowl or charge you $8 for extra bread & not even have clean water carafes. Not even close. Will definitely not be back. Plenty of great Italian restaurants in Tampa and St. Pete. Update: Owner posted a response on my review on Google. I took a screenshot and posted it here. You can tell by the tone of the owner's response what type of establishment this is. Instead of taking accountability & offering to make it right, he gets egotistical, refuses to apologize for anything & insults my wife and I. Look at other negative reviews. He insulted them as well. I quote owners response to my review "We have taken measures to make sure you won't be back". Oh no. I'm heartbroken. I already said I would never be back. Your measures are pointless but thank you. What a child like response. Is that the type of business anyone wants to support? I think not. As an owner, you might want to respond more humbly. It is not a good look. We saw Instagram ads for this place and knew we had to go! Wow...really really good! Excellent service and food! The owners were there and not only super attentive but really nice and helpful! Our food was amazing. I of course had to try the pasta in the huge wheel of cheese and it was incredible! This is a small restaurant with limited parking so I highly recommend getting reservations. Our second time here and was even better than the first! Ryan will greet you and take you to your table. He's an expert on the menu and wine list. We started with the palette cleanser -- the best olive oil you'll ever taste. We got 2 appetizers -- the bresaola and the board of cheeses and meats. The only place in town where you can get duck prosciutto! For the entrees, we each got something different. The table side special of the shrimp -- look at the size of them! The pastas and breads are all made in house and you can tell. This is the freshest food we've had in the area and truly comes with a warm and comforting welcome from Antonio and his wife. This experience was insane. I legit felt like I was transported to Italy. The place looks super small from the outside but it's so unassuming - so much space in there AND an outdoor bar. We asked the waiter & owner to surprise us and they really did. They brought out all these dishes starting with exquisite white wine (to match the seafood spread) to an authentic Caprese salad to a charcuterie board (with paintbrushes for different honeys & cheeses) to tuna tartare (INSANE never had anything like it) to authentic shrimp scampi (with squid ink pasta) to tableside farfalle to table side tiramisu. We ended the night being led to their outdoor bar where the rest of the patrons were chilling before leaving. We also got to see the wine cellar which seemed like stepping into another world. We were very excited to try this place, but unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We ordered the bread basket, and TWO WORMS crawled out of it. We immediately notified our server, who took the basket back and said he needed to speak with the manager. His manager came over to ask us what happened and then proceeded to check the kitchen. He came back out and said it wasn't worms it was actually termites (I can guarantee they were worms, I know what both termites and worms look like). Despite the situation, nothing from our meal was offered to be comped. We were so grossed out that we barely ate the rest of our food, yet still paid over $100 for clams, a side salad, and wine. The quality of the meat of the short rib and ribeye on the mixed grill selection is tough as well as the duck. The Brazini served was the size of a small piece of lake perch and overpriced. All in all, the quality of many of the dishes on the menu is poor as well as their value. There are many other Italian restaurants in Tampa that are of better value and higher quality of food. Wow! BeccoFino is definitely an immersive dining experience! Reservations are a must and I recommend the first seating at 6 pm. Open Wednesday - Saturday. A non-assuming house with limited parking and we arrived 10 til 6 and a line was forming. Doors unlock at 6 sharp. Everybody was excited and looking forward to our dinners! One by one we were seated and large groups in front room and smaller groups in back room. Decor could use some updating but deeply rooted in Italian heritage. The lead waiter gave the group the specials of night along with the new menu. I ordered the special prawns cooked table side with orange and cognac with a side of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. Hubby had the Elk chop (never seen Elk available in the area before) with yucca mash. The meal was outstanding and every bite a treat. I had the best brute prosecco 3 times followed by the homemade flan for dessert. The owners are delightful and service was excellent. Don't be in a hurry. We've heard about Beccofino from people we've seen around the area that told us it's sooo good and we HAVE to try it. So I made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday. We love Italian food and couldn't wait to try it. Boy were we disappointed. We walked into the restaurant and there was NOBODY in the restaurant. And there was nobody to greet us at the host stand. Finally after waiting about 10 minutes the server came and sat us. They took us to the back of the restaurant and there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. We thought maybe it was just because we were early and it was start filling up. Nope. The server was great and was constantly asking if we needed anything (almost too much). They brought out the little starter things to wake up our taste buds and it tasted weird and we asked what it was and they would not tell us. We thought it was odd but we just kept rolling with it. Next the "homemade" stale bread came out. sometimes homemade isn't always best. The server said all pasta is made in house too. Well from my seat I could see into the kitchen and I could see big boxes of barilla pasta! I ordered the wild boar ravioli and my wife ordered the cacio Pepe. My dish came out way before my wife's so I went ahead and ate so it didn't get cold. Then the owner/chef came out to cook the cacio Pepe. The other table ordered the same thing so he made it both as the same time. After a couple minutes of him kinda talking to both of our tables, we thought he was drunk. He was really hard to understand (not sure if it was the accent or the slurring of words) and he wasn't speaking loud enough for us to hear him. My wife ate her pasta and the owner/chef came over and told her she was eating her pasta wrong and took her fork and showed her how to eat. So freaking weird. The dish was pretty bland. We both expected more flavor out of a $51 dish. After we finished dinner we were invited to come out back for a "surprise". The surprised was sitting out back by the "bar". There was no bartender and the server was running back and forth into the kitchen bringing us drinks and also bringing drinks for the owner! We felt so uncomfortable. Didn't help he was smoking right next to us and he was on his phone most of the time. Then they had the audacity to ask us to rate them #1 for best Italian in Tampa bay. Me and my wife love trying new restaurants and have eaten at pretty much all restaurants in Tampa and this was by far the strangest restaurant experience me and my wife have ever had. Instead of telling people how great of dinner/time we've had, we are telling them how weird and uncomfortable we felt. I'll start with the ambiance and service :: it's a hole in the wall on the side of macdill. It has a charming, old Italian feel. I felt like I was in my grandmothers dining room. The staff were kind and gave great recommendations. It's definitely a family affair here and you definitely need to make reservations in advance. Now the food :: spectacular from start to end! I've been on a mission to find the best Italian in Tampa bay and this place is up there. Our starter, the hot Calabria spread was superb. It was a salty, spicy salami delight on fresh fluffy bread. We had to reschedule our reservation due to a family emergency (which I told the owner) and he said he'd reschedule the reso but then charged us a cancellation fee anyway. Small portions, huge $$. The staff is nice but wouldn't return. This pasta dish was like 30 $40 and it had barely any noodles, no protein. It was one of the worst experiences in any Italian restaurant I've ever had. First off we didn't have a reservation. They acted like they were doing us a favor by letting us in and never got busy. I spent $50 for a rare ribeye on a piece of wood with some potatoes. Had to send it back to cook further I should have just refused. My girlfriend had the risotto that was in the shape of a tuna can that was $48!!! 8 different type of mushrooms they were not. The pricing is absolutely off the wall. The decor was dated and it was musty. $16 for a couple pieces of asparagus wrapped up in a piece of prosciutto drenched olive oil. We just had a sad and disappointing experience at this restaurant. We heard the hype, read Google reviews but not Yelp reviews. Yelp reviews are more accurate. First impression from outside - shabby, dirty and underwhelming. Inside - damp, warm and musty smelling. Points for service which was good. The food however was a big disappointment. We - a table of 4 - shared a bottle of prosecco to start and a gorganzola stuffed pear on a bed of arugula drizzled with balsamic glaze and candied pecans. Unique but simple and nothing to rave about - $18. We asked for bread and were served a canister of sliced bread (good), two stale breadsticks and a small bowl of dipping olive oil with oregano and a lot of salt - $10. For dinner we had eggplant parm, cacio & pepe, pappardelle al tartufo and tagliata alla florentina. Reviews of each dish by each diner: Eggplant parm (which was a side portion) was quite basic. Grilled eggplant slices stacked with mozz between each slice and sauce poured over. Nothing special - $14. Cacio & pepe - supposed to be made table side - was not. Thin watery sauce - nothing special $51. Pappardelle - tasty sauce, modest amount of mushrooms, did not see or taste any truffles $43. And finally, the tagliata alla florentina - almost inedible! About 5 slices of meat, full of fat & gristle, extremely undercooked (virtually raw) $48. One of our party asked for grated parm and were told in no uncertain terms BY THE OWNER "NO - it was done perfectly and any additional cheese would ruin the taste". We each had one glass of wine. The entire meal, with tip, was over $300. One of our party visited the bathroom and reported it was filthier than a truck stop! This was not a pleasant experience. There are absolutely no substitutions, changes or variations allowed of any kind. There is a shared dish fee of $10, a corkage fee of $45 and no separate checks. We would not return nor recommend this place. Go to Cafe Paradiso for an authentic Italian experience with wonderful hospitality and terrific food. I'm sorry we wasted our money here. My friend and I, based on reviews and social media buzz, thought this place would be a hidden gem. We called to check availability and were told there was an opening for a table of two and that we needed to go online to reserve it. When we arrived, there were only two tables with two people each--and the rest of the restaurant was empty. The atmosphere was not welcoming. It smelled like mold and looked run down. We decided to stick it out, hoping this might be one of those "hole-in-the-wall" surprises. Boy, were we wrong--and not in a good way. We ordered the Cacio e Pepe, as reviews had raved about it. It was extremely overpriced at $53, but we were ready to be impressed. We also ordered the filet. When we asked for it medium rare, the server and the owner (the only two people working in the entire restaurant, by the way) told us, "We only serve it one way--the right way." When we asked what that meant, they kept repeating, "The right way." Both entrées were prepared tableside. The owner, who was also cooking, smelled like he had been smoking and drinking while preparing the food. Oh--and they brought out a "first bite" to "wake up our taste buds" but wouldn't tell us what it was, despite repeated questions. When we insisted, they responded with, "Oh, I don't speak English." It looked like tan mush, was watery, and tasted terrible. As for the filet, it was brought out partially cooked and cold, as if it had been premade. The owner "seared" it in a pan for 30 seconds, then made a sauce with heavy cream. The steak was still cold and had an odd flavor. We tried cutting it with a butter knife--it wouldn't cut. When we asked for a steak knife, they said, "No! We cook it so you don't need a knife," while watching us struggle to cut it. The steak was full of gristle, and we had to keep spitting pieces out. I'm not even sure it was a filet--it was inedible. Now for the Cacio e Pepe: it was the worst thing I have ever eaten. I couldn't force myself to eat any of it. First of all, the owner kept saying, "I only make authentic Italian--the way it's supposed to be," but it tasted like flour and cream and was swimming in sauce. When he saw we weren't eating, he said, "I know what the problem is," then put his hands on my shoulders and physically pushed me back into my chair "to relax." Again, they wouldn't tell us what was in any of the dishes. It was all "a secret." By that point, we stopped asking, because we had already been told multiple times how "amazing" everything was and how they "do it the right way." We honestly thought we were being punked--it felt like a joke. They brought out two tiny chocolate things for dessert but refused to say what they were. Then they brought out two tiny after-dinner drinks--again, wouldn't tell us what they were. When we asked for the check, the waiter said, "You've been cordially invited to a secret location for an adventure," but still wouldn't give us a straight answer on anything. By then, my friend and I felt like we were trapped in an episode of The Twilight Zone. We were seated outside, in the back of the restaurant at a makeshift bar, surrounded by ashtrays and dirt. The whole bizarre experience was apparently just to get us to "vote" for them as the best Italian restaurant in Florida--a huge joke. Then, just when the night couldn't get any weirder, the owner came out with roses in his mouth and tried to get us to take one from his mouth with our mouths. It was beyond uncomfortable. This was the most awkward, unsettling dining experience I've ever had. The food matched the experience: awful all around. I don't understand how anyone can rave about this place. Don't ignore the negative reviews. The staff and food here is not worth the price they charge. I would strongly recommend trying other Italian restaurants in Tampa. Food was bland and portions small - you are definitely paying for the hype this restaurant has received online recently. I don't want dissuade people from supporting small businesses, but $450 for wine and four average entrees is not the move. At that price, I would expect at least the food to be exceptional. The owner is very pushy and a bit rude - his preferences are apparently the only correct ones. He removed one person's plate from the table without warning, as he was eating. Brought the plate back without any commentary as to why it was removed and brought back. The music was loud and on top of that, there is no noise dampening so it's quite loud in there to try and have a conversation with the table. It's a bit grungy inside. Horrible Experience - False Advertising, Unfriendly, and Overpriced We made a reservation for a birthday party at Beccofino after seeing on Google that they advertised themselves as kid-friendly. I made it clear in our reservation that we had two babies, yet when we arrived, they had no baby chairs, leaving us unable to stay. Instead of accommodating us, they charged a ridiculous $240 cancellation fee! When I asked to speak to the owner, I was rudely told that "this is not a kids' restaurant." If that's the case, then why advertise yourself as welcoming to families? To make matters worse, the place is a wet dump. From the moment you step out of your car in the terrible parking lot to entering the dingy bathrooms, it's a nightmare. On top of that, their prices are insanely pretentious for what they offer. Seriously, you are NOT a high-end restaurant--don't let the Euro accents fool you. The whole operation feels like a scam, profiting off unsuspecting customers with misleading advertising and outrageous fees. Save your money and your time. There are far better places in Tampa that treat their customers with respect and don't try to trick them into paying absurd amounts for an underwhelming experience. DISCREDIT ALL THE BAD REVIEWS! Lets start off by saying this is an incredibly traditional Italian restaurant. If you dont know what that is, please come with an open mind. I felt like I was back in Sicily when I came here. If youre used to carrabas or olive garden please do not come here. Its a very intimate, romantic, quaint spot. The prices arent low but youre paying for a very warm atmosphere and very high QUALITY food. If you know anything about what quality food is, this place is the place to be. Very delicious food. The manager is such a cutie, such a king, extremely personable and very Italian. Extremely respectful and witty. He's been in the business for a long time so if you come there and criticize his food, dont bother, he's already made it. 10/10 read more

The food at Beccofino is absolutely out of this world delicious and authentic. Don't be fooled by it's intimate setting, Beccofino rivals any Italian restaurant anywhere in the world. The service was fantastic and the owner really went out of his way to make it a unique experience. I had the table side Cacio Pepe. The pasta was cooked perfectly, then mixed in the parmigiana bowl and served table side. Such a delicious meal, engaging dining experience and charming ambiance. Would highly recommend. read more

We loved every thing about this little jem. The owner Antiono is your tipical Italian. Some may mistake his dry humor as rude or snarky, however we found him endearing. He is very hands on with his guests. Based on our taste in wines he made a excellent wine suggestion. He discussed My husband's likes of flavors and my husband choose the Elk and Jimica. Which was a first ever and he loved every morsel. I had the filet with truffles prepared by Antonio at our table. It was the absolute best filet I've ever had in my 63 years. The decor is rustic but the charm of the owners makes up for it. Upon leaving we secured a reservation for our 44th anniversary dinner and Betty (Antonio's wife) gave me a rose. read more

Please disregard the negative reviews you've seen and go to Beccofino. This is the most authentic italian experience with incredible hospitality. The food was fantastic, never over salted or unflavored. I had the Pappardelle al Tartufo and can confirm it does not leave you feeling heavy which i can only assume is due to the fresh ingredients they use. We had the Buratta as an appetizer which was also a delight. Topped dinner off with a chocolate mousse that is for the purest of chocolate lovers. They even threw in a cheese taste sample surprise. By far one of the best restaurant experience I've had and it was all due to the incredible owners Antonio and his wife, Elizabeth. They have truly created a space that is about the experience, not just the food. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, sharing drinks and stories that showed us their passion for this industry and creating connections with their guests. I have never been to a restaurant where the owners invite you to join them after your meal to sit and continue the night with them. The waiter, Ryan, also had a huge part in making the night with answering all our questions and adding charm to the evening.
