A couple Saturdays ago, I was running a few errands. Once I was done, I felt like visiting a diner for lunch. I did a search and found Poached Dreams Diner in Aurora. I didn't mind driving up from Markham to check it out. It was straightforward getting here. I parked in the parking lot and walked in from what looked like the back of the diner. There's also a front door with a patio that faces Wellington Street East. I was immediately greeted by a young, enthusiast woman. I let her know that I needed a table for one. She got me to a comfortable booth by the window. The catch is that you have to watch your step to get to your seat. It's a treat when I have breakfast out. I thought that I'd be getting french toast. Well, all that changed when I saw a heading for comfort foods on the menu. Nothing makes me happier than seeing open-faced sandwiches on a menu. It was probably during my days living in Winnipeg that I fell in love with such sandwiches and at least a side. New goal: come here and have every open-faced sandwich on the menu. I got cold water to start. It was refreshing and much needed after running errands. I ordered these items for my meal: - Diet Coke (2) - Hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and veggies My Diet Coke came with a glass with ice. I loved it. I wish the can was larger! I needed a second can for dessert. I loved my hot turkey sandwich. There was a generous amount of sliced turkey smothered in sauce over a slice of white bread. I got to choose my starch. I went with mashed potatoes. There was enough gravy over the turkey that I dunked my spoonfuls of mashed potatoes into it. I loved the steamed veggies. They were perfectly cooked. They also went into the gravy. The meal was delicious. I'd order it again. I felt like dessert. I asked if there was any. Baklava with pistachios. I said yes. I thought that it would be a square or rectangle. Nope. I got a roll. Cool! It was perfect. It had the right amount of honey. It was crispy and yummy. So good! I paid my bill at the table. I tipped and then tapped my credit card. I elected to have the receipt texted to my phone, which also signed me up for its points program. Yay! I learned that this diner has been open since June 2025. I'm always late to any party because I seem to live under a rock or in a cave. I'm glad that I visited this eatery. Great food. Great service. Great! I used the washroom before I left. The women's washroom was clean and had a full-length mirror. This eatery is huge. It looks like there's a cafe for those grabbing coffee and maybe a snack before leaving. I look forward to returning for more good eats and drinks. (148)

While I was eating here I noticed that there were a lot of people who came in, some came for dine in service and some came for takeout. The staff at the diner knew at least 90% of the people coming in by name. One of the regulars even brought his friend to checkout the place. So it seems like this diner is quite frequented by the locals in the area. When we walked in, we were quickly greeted by James, he was very friendly and full of energy. He was quick to take our order and check on us when we needed something, service was wonderful. We ordered the Porterville Pizza and wings with fries, added a side of gravy and finished off with a butter tart for dessert. The pizza was nice and crispy and topped with lots of fresh toppings, probably one of the best pizzas I ever had! The wings and fries with gravy was delicious as well. The warm butter tart for dessert was a great finishing touch to the meal. Chef Jamie did a great job with everything that came out of that kitchen, no wonder this place is so popular amongst the locals. Food was good but more…read moreimportant than food to me was the friendly and honest connection the owner had to offer, sir Dimitri,(Demetrios) came to our table to have a little chat with me creating very positive energy I could relaxed into. I felt at home. Today's morning was bad time for me. My compainion, the man siting at the table with me just broke up with me before taking me for breakfast. I guess to make me feel better, but it did not work this way. Who made me feel all better was sir Dimitri. He was like father figure who cares. I am greatful for sir Dimitri.
