National Beavertail day!!
Jana D.

This was a fun way to celebrate the closing of our house... by enjoying a fresh Beavertail on National Beavertail day! This outlet has been at the Tanger Outlet Mall since it opened 2 or 3 years ago, and it's a good thing they were there... Tanger did not offer much of a selection of places to get anything to eat - sweet or otherwise - when the mall opened. It's a bit better in that regard now, but this Tanger outlet is not the place you would go to get "haute cuisine". However, business must have been brisk enough for Beavertails to stay here! There are only 2 permanent, year-round stores where you can get these pastries all year - even though this famous pastry was made famous by their huts along the Frozen Rideau Canal in the winter. So, onward to our experience: Yes, they're in the parking lot, and they're building a deck to sit by and enjoy your purchase. It's authentic because that's how they do business, but this takes up parking spots in that area. The pastries are made fresh upon ordering, and they have 10 different choices from savoury garlic and cheese to the standards with nutella and banana, lemon and cinnamon, or that creamy one with the caramel. We purchased the first and last of these choices. They were beautifully messy and dreadfully tasty! LOL So worth it! Be prepared to spend $7.00 each for these 2 choices. Either I am imagining things, or else the cost of business and rent is expensive in the mall; prices are higher than I remember them. Gone are the days of $3.50 treats, at least here. For the purpose of this celebration, that didn't sway us. Besides, let's be serious: if I was going to my other favourite treat spot in the mall (the Lindt outlet), I would probably drop that much cash anyway! I just realized something... I completely blanked out when we ordered: I did not take photographs! Ah well, that just means I have to relive the experience... of the Beavertail but without the house closing... Le Sigh! None the less, I will probably be back. It's close enough to home, and after all, it is open all year!

A classic Canadian treat. I've eaten beavertails ever since I was a little kid. I still can't resist the killaloe sunrise (cinnamon sugar and lemon juice) it's just unbeatable.

Skors beaver tail and a hot chocolate!

I went here with my brother to get some fries, pogos (aka corn dogs, I hadn't realized that "pogo"…read moreis an exclusively Canadian term until my American friend, Karen K, pointed it out to me, lol) and hot dogs for my little nieces. I have never had a pogo in my life and have no inclinations to change that. I also don't like hot dogs, so all I tried were the fries and they were great. The fries were a bit sweet (from the type of potatoes they use) and they tasted fresh and not from frozen. I liked the texture, they were not mealy. I like that they are unsalted. I think a large was like $6 or something like that. Pogos and hotdogs are $0.99 each. My older niece who is a picky eater and had never had a pogo before, took one bite and proclaimed "I LOVE POGOS!" Lol. She ate one and a half pogos, which is a lot for her. The breading looked crispy. The hotdogs were tiny and they were steamed. The nieces rejected them so my brother and dad ended up eating them. The place is really popular; we had to stand in line for a long time. Decor is old school diner-like. It reminds me of those casse-croutes that are ubiquitous in Montreal like La Belle Province, Lafleur Restaurants, and Green Stop. Most food here is greasy and fried. If you're trying to eat healthy this is not the place to go. It's not my kind of place, but for what it is, I think it's good. It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking.

I was looking forward to trying this based on the reviews and was disappointed. Ordered the poutine…read moreand it just was underwhelming. The gravy didn't have much flavour wasn't warm enough, so the cheese barely melted. It just kind of sat there and was a bit congealed. Fries were nothing the write home about either. I was expecting a lot better based on the reviews. Maybe it was an off day who knows. The inside needs some updating, as it's kind of dark inside, they barely had any lights on.
