Nice and well-kept rest area [Horse Cave KY]…read more This is a rest area? I thought it was a visitor's center. Horse Cave Rest Area off Interstate 65 in Horse Cave KY, right around mile marker 59. It's got northbound and southbound access, which is convenient if you're not sure which way you'll be traveling. We were heading South on our way to Nashville. The grounds are clean and well-maintained. Inside is spacious with benches to rest on each corners. Maps and brochures are available and well stocked. Separately from the restrooms are vending machines and outdoor picnic tables. Pets welcome. On I-65 Mile Marker 60 watch out for a time change because you have just entered the Central Time Zone (not Twilight Zone). They have some nice rest stops on I-65 in Kentucky. Why can't we have nice rest areas like this in California... some of them aren't even open or operational. Boo :( Review #3926

The cut out of Dolly inside made us smile, as did the clean bathrooms. They had cute rocking chairs and a fire place and lots of books and brochures I saw people taking. A large parking area that is well shaded and a very large structure that could be a Kentucky plantation home complete with lots of brochures, clean restrooms and (during business hours), an associate who can answer questions about amenities and accommodations in the area. Service Plazas that are built between both directions of the expressway make so much more sense than having a rest area on each side...but that's not what this is about. This Hucks is huge! It's spacious and well lit, and has just about everything you need from a service plaza. The entryways are clean and well maintained. It was a rainy day and staff was frequently checking the lobby and mopping up water that had been tracked in. I love the barn wood décor. It's homey and feels rustic and outdoorsy. There is no end to the stuff you can buy here. Sandwiches. Snacks. Soft drinks (both bottle/can and fountain). Donuts. Fresh sandwiches. Rotisserie chicken. Dippin' Dots!®. There's also non-food related stuff like Baseball caps. Apparel. Basic car/truck supplies. A lot more stuff than I would normally imagine. All of the racks and shelves and displays are well-spaced so you don't feel crowded. The only staff member we interacted with was a cashier and she pretty unenthusiastic about the whole ordeal (we about a donut, some beef jerky, and two bottles of water) and I got the impression she'd rather be somewhere else. This kind of service plaza is what most should aspire to. Clean, well-stocked, and convenient.
