During my first facial, the aesthetician analyzed my skin and pointed out that my skin barrier was damaged. Even though I had acne, the underlying layers of my skin seemed dry to her so she mostly focused on hydrating my skin. She recommended I buy the Sophia Naturals Skincare healing cream and SPF hydrating sunscreen since tretinoin is very drying, so I did. Couple weeks after using the new products, I began breaking out like never before. My acne was deep and aching, something I had never experienced in the past. I returned to the salon for two more custom facials and the aesthetician said that this type of acne is expected for the first 2-3 months when using tretinoin as the skin is likely purging. She did some extractions as well which were quite painful. However, my acne was not getting any better after 3 months so I decided to consult a dermatologist. The doctor told me that the Sophia Naturals Skincare sunscreen and moisturizer were clogging my pores. The shea butter and oils in the products were too heavy, therefore trapping all the impurities in my skin that the tretinoin was bringing to the surface and ultimately causing my breakouts. I switched over to a generic drugstore sunscreen and moisturizer and within a few weeks, my acne started clearing up a bit. My skin is much better now, though I was left with some acne scars on my face. This experience was distressing as I had never had this intense of acne in my life. While the service itself was good and the aesthetician was friendly, I felt that she was not knowledgeable about product recommendations which ultimately worsened my skin. It took a long time for my skin to recover and get back to where it was before. I would not return

I saw great results almost immediately after. -1 star because I think communication around medication/antibiotics use beforehand could be improved. My first time visit here they weren't able to treat me because I was on an antibiotic, a quick call or questionnaire beforehand could have saved me the trip there. Overall, it's been a positive experience and I'm definitely returning since I bought a package during a promotion they had.
