Absolutely awful experience with beauty box coldharbour. I went in for a mani/pedi two days before leaving for my wedding abroad and the service was abysmal - my nails literally look like they were painted by a 5 year old. I emailed the salon asking for a refund, and was told that they could only offer to redo the service. I appreciated the gesture but at that point, I didn't have time to go in and get it all redone before I left. I explained this to Julia, the salon owner and even sent her pictures of my nails so she could see the clearly substandard job. Had it been any other day I would've been happy to get them redone, but as I explained to Julia several times I was leaving for my wedding abroad in less than 48 hours and simply couldn't accommodate another appointment in my schedule. Julia repeatedly ignored this and continued to ask for my availability to get them redone. I eventually decided to move some other appointments and called the salon Friday morning to reschedule, but there was no availability at the westbury location. The lady I spoke with very tersely told me that I should've taken the appointment she offered yesterday at 1 PM (I wasn't available then, and had already spent two hours at the salon that morning) she then told me that if I had been so dissatisfied with my service then I should've refused to pay. This might have been a good solution if they hadn't taken 2/3 of the payment up front when I booked! I did eventually agree to go in to have the nails redone on the Friday, but as there was no availability in my local salon I had to go to an even further one away. Despite Julia's insistence that fixing my nails "would only take 45 minutes" I was there for nearly two hours. In fairness, the ladies at the Clifton salon were able to fix my nails; but requiring your clients to carve more time out of their own schedules so that the technicians can have another shot at a proper service is just not adequate. Will not be returning here: rude employees, terrible service and utterly incompetent nail technicians. read more

Gotta give this place a bad review based on the fact that I had my facial cancelled at the last minute. I booked my facial two weeks ago on the phone and was not asked for a card during booking. I got a call at 7:30 pm the day before my appointment and was asked for my card to confirm the appointment. I was walking my dog and didn't have my card. I was told I needed to go online and upload a card to their website before midnight in order to confirm my appointment. I did that. When I showed up the next day for my appointment, I was told it had been cancelled because I failed to upload a card. When I showed on my phone that I had uploaded a card, I was told they don't accept Amex and that my card wasn't accepted by the system and thus my appointment was cancelled. They apparently tried to call me that morning once but didn't leave a message. The person who did the facials didn't come in that day because i was their only appointment. It was very disappointing. That being said, the woman who was there was apologetic and offered to rebook me with a discount or do my nails. I ended up getting a pedicure from her that I thought was very good. She was friendly and did a great job with my pedicure! read more

I had a pedicure here today at the Clifton Downs location. The staff was friendly and attentive. They were very good about strict COVID restrictions. My friend and I received a pedicure and were the only customers in the salon. I paid for the Luxury pedicure and did receive the 15% discount as advertised on their website. However - I did not receive everything as described in the Luxury pedicure description on their website which was disappointing. Per their website -- Luxury Pedicure Foot soak and exfoliation, nail file and shape, dead skin removal, cuticle work (full), nail buffing, leg and foot massage (to the knee), application of our award winning polish and top coat. The massage is where things were not given as described -- the massage did not go past my ankle. It was certainly not on my leg at all or up to my knee. The massage that I did receive on my foot probably lasted no more than 2 minutes - also a bit of a disappointment. Posting this as a bit of a buyer be aware - no need in paying for the Luxury pedicure. read more

I travel a lot with work and thus have visited a fair few spas in my life, mainly to avoid the boredom of 'business travel hotel syndrome'. I have now moved back to Bristol and so I wanted to find a spa which I could use locally. I've been really delighted to find the Beauty Box and have been pleased with my treatments to date (eyelash extensions, eyebrow shape, eyelash tint, Shellac manicure) - I've also been glad to have met Tanya - the lovely therapist who I always have now. She is professional, friendly and does the best French Shellac I've ever had. The spa itself is a good, solid, little shop. It's not flashy (and I'm not being mean - I'm comparing it to places like the Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental etc) so four stars is about right. It has friendly staff, a big comfy sofa in the Westbury shop and good treatments at fair prices. So all good in my book and now my regular home spa. read more

I feel the need to write a review because all the others are super negative and old! I went to the Beauty Box express salon on st Michael's Hill recently to have a bikini wax. It was my first time having a professional wax so I didn't really know what to expect. But it was great! I mean obviously waxing isn't my idea of a good time, but the staff made it as comfortable as possible. The girl who looked after me was absolutely lovely, really chatty, and made an effort to take my mind off the pain and make me feel comfortable. Unfortunately I don't know her name so I wouldn't be able to recommend her, but all the staff seemed approachable and sweet. I think that's the most important thing. As for the wax itself, it was over quickly, and looks very professional although there are one or two stray hairs. On top of that, it was pretty cheap; they do student discount Monday to Wednesday so it only cost me about £9. The only thing I will say is they need to sort the website out, it's full of spelling mistakes and isn't very eloquently written. It doesn't reflect the quality of the services and I very nearly went somewhere else. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for professional treatments in a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere at a reasonable price, and I will definitely be going back. read more

Shocker!! I booked my appointment online; which was unanswered by the salon. I probably should have taken that as a warning. The salon is a tiny box crammed with people and chairs, and pieces of finger nail everywhere. I was taken into a room for the first part of my treatment, then sent back to the waiting room, then taken back into the same room, then sent back to the waiting room, then taken back to the SAME room. Seriously. I was refused my eyelash tint because I hadn't undergone a patch-test. Probably something that could have been mentioned when I phoned to ask if my online booking had been sucessful. My facial was a 'prescription' facial; allegedly tailored to the needs of my skin. The examination was done by the light of 2 candles, and involved pinching. Needless to say I declined the loyalty card offered as I paid for my unrelaxing shambles of an afternoon. Stay away from the Beauty Box. read more

I feel inspired to review because the others are awful and out of date!! I've been a regular customer of beauty box for about a year now and never had a problem. Both salons have had a refurb and have more rooms and the staff are all lovely. I have always had excellent eyebrow threading and brazilian/hollywood waxes in Clifton, and the shellac nails are always lovely. The Westbury on Trym branch now does spray tanning - I got one when it was newly opened and it wasn't great, I think it's probably a case of needing a bit more practice - there wasn't any vaseline to cover nails etc which I've been given in other places. One frustration is that the loyalty card system is only at the Clifton Salon, so you can't always use it, which is annoying when you visit both salons. But overall the treatments are excellent, the rooms and decor lovely and girls charming. Don't be put off by the older reviews - they may well have been accurate then but aren't now! I've moved away from Bristol now so just left to say thanks ladies for keeping all my hairy bits in check for the last year! :) read more

After today I shall return to my previous salon, 'The Beauty Centre' in Clifton. Further away for me now but worth it. Like many of us I have a pretty busy life and usually I do not make time for such testimonials but after today I feel compelled to. I had been a regular customer with the Beauty Box for the last 2-3 years and today I went along for an appointment with a voucher that my mother-in-law had bought me as a gift. In my mind I had thought the voucher had been for my Birthday which was in February and so therefore was still within the six month time frame to use the voucher. However, when I got to the till the voucher had been bought last December for Christmas and therefore I was 5 weeks late to use the voucher. It was an honest, forgetful mistake. I feel the right thing to do from a 'goodwill' point of view would be to honour the voucher, after all the salon had already been paid the £30 by my mother-in-law. Unfortunately the salon did not honour the voucher. I train organisations in how to deliver excellent customer service and no matter how successful a business is they should not try to lose regular customers. On one of the doors in the salon it says that the best compliment that could be given is a referral. Well I shall be referring people not to go to that salon; I have already had a moan to my sister-in-law who will now be avoiding Beauty Box and she will pass this on to her Mum, so that's at least three already. read more

Had a 'hot wax' brazilian wax and a leg wax here; and as someone with fair hair, it is very easy to tell how thorough and careful a beautician is when waxing a customer. At the end of both waxes which were due to last 45 mins (lasted 15/20 mins max for both), I wasn't asked my opinion and was ushered out. When I actually got home to have a look, I saw patches of unwaxed hair everywhere - one of my knees hadn't been waxed and patches of my bikini line had been left. I know I have fair hair and people think it might not 'matter' as much, but I pay just as much money as someone with very noticeable hair and deserve the same thoroughness. I had to go out and buy an at-home bikini waxing kit to finish the job off myself and spend a lot of time with my tweezers. Not worth the money I paid. Also - the hot brazilian wax is misleading, they only use the hot wax for a small part of the process and the rest is done by the roll-on method. Not the gentle approach someone with sensitive skin was expecting! read more
