My…read more first treatment- a half leg wax took 40 minutes, and even though the girl was pleasant, she seemed inexperienced. It was my next treatment, the 'pedicure' that I was the most disappointed with. The next 'therapist' I had sat me in a chair opposite her in the reception area, (other clients were sat there waiting!) and asked me to put a foot on her lap. Not only was it uncomfortable, but quite embarrassing as I was wearing a knee length dress, and there was nothing to protect my modesty as I balanced both feet on her lap. There was no foot bowl, all she did was push back my cuticles, file and shape, then apply polish. The result was very amateur and I could have done a better job myself. I had already decided that I would not be returning. I then asked the first girl if I could pay while my toes were drying. 'Sure' she said and disappeared out the door and went to lunch!! I went up to the counter to pay, and instead of the £30 I had been quoted the day before, I was charged £35. I politely advised her that I had been quoted £30 the day before, to which she disputed and insisted that I pay the full £35. I did tell her I would not be returning, the pedicure was uncomfortable and the customer care was terrible. All in all, a very unprofessional establishment.

It's just that whatever they tell us about sunshine and vitamin D, we all know deep down that it's much healthier to get a tan from swimming, walking and general exposure to the sun than exposing ourselves to ultra-violet rays on a sunbed. Aside from the small, short and long-term health risks - going to The Tanning Shop is damn expensive. The advert outside suggests you can get a tan for *less than 40p a minute* but you have to book a lot of sessions to get it down to that price.

It is a pricey salon, there's no getting away from that, but they do colour sales and 'VIP' (loyalty) discounts, so there are ways to make it cheaper. I've never had a bad experience with them and my hairdresser Bryce is absolutely wonderful. Could not recommend him enough as he's always done an incredible job on my hair. I've attached a photo of my new purple do so you can see his amazing colour work. Before that he'd helped he get from a darker brown through to a natural looking blonde that suited my roots. Always happy and feeling great afterwards. And the chairs that you sit in while washing your hair have massages in them!

There aren't many…read moresalons I can think of that are this big and finished to such a fine detail, that let you call them up on the day, get an appointment for an hour and a halves time, turn up looking dishevelled and dripping with rain, and show a picture of an animé character and say "can you make me look like this please?" without laughing you out of the shop and to a mental institute. But that's exactly what I did, and it only cost £15. Maybe I picked a quite time to go and was somewhat fortunate, but I felt every bit as pampered (boy is it hard to sound manly when talking about haircuts) as I have done in the handful of other salons I have visited, and revisited. I'm not the chattiest of people when having my hair put at risk, and am quite satisfied to exchange meaningful words and light hearted jokes, rather than to talk aimlessly throughout the process. And from the looks of things, the fine men and women at Headmasters seemed more than happy to comply with either approach. So far as the consultation was concerned, it was easily the most practical I've had... Which was in no small part aided by me showing a picture of Spike Spiegel (from Cowboy Bebop) and asking if his gravity defying curls were physically possible. While assuring me that it would not look exactly the same, I personally felt it came as close to the fiction as reality would allow without the aid of a wig, and for that I'm bloomin' grateful. I have to say, I felt silly for making such a random request, but I was reassured incredibly quickly... Needless to say, I'll be returning to Headmasters again when I next have the urge to animé myself up!
