I used to go to Headmasters in Great Portland Street (London) but after my hairdresser moved to…read moreBrighton, I couldn't not follow. It is a pricey salon, there's no getting away from that, but they do colour sales and 'VIP' (loyalty) discounts, so there are ways to make it cheaper. I've never had a bad experience with them and my hairdresser Bryce is absolutely wonderful. Could not recommend him enough as he's always done an incredible job on my hair. I've attached a photo of my new purple do so you can see his amazing colour work. Before that he'd helped he get from a darker brown through to a natural looking blonde that suited my roots. Always happy and feeling great afterwards. And the chairs that you sit in while washing your hair have massages in them!

I was damn impressed by this place, and had to come and yelp about it right away. There aren't many…read moresalons I can think of that are this big and finished to such a fine detail, that let you call them up on the day, get an appointment for an hour and a halves time, turn up looking dishevelled and dripping with rain, and show a picture of an animé character and say "can you make me look like this please?" without laughing you out of the shop and to a mental institute. But that's exactly what I did, and it only cost £15. Maybe I picked a quite time to go and was somewhat fortunate, but I felt every bit as pampered (boy is it hard to sound manly when talking about haircuts) as I have done in the handful of other salons I have visited, and revisited. I'm not the chattiest of people when having my hair put at risk, and am quite satisfied to exchange meaningful words and light hearted jokes, rather than to talk aimlessly throughout the process. And from the looks of things, the fine men and women at Headmasters seemed more than happy to comply with either approach. So far as the consultation was concerned, it was easily the most practical I've had... Which was in no small part aided by me showing a picture of Spike Spiegel (from Cowboy Bebop) and asking if his gravity defying curls were physically possible. While assuring me that it would not look exactly the same, I personally felt it came as close to the fiction as reality would allow without the aid of a wig, and for that I'm bloomin' grateful. I have to say, I felt silly for making such a random request, but I was reassured incredibly quickly... Needless to say, I'll be returning to Headmasters again when I next have the urge to animé myself up!

They leave a visible line where your hair colour ends and where the bleach starts. And when going back for a fix or advice he became aggressive and defensive about his terrible job. No hate but this was the experience I was given and I just don't want others to have the same experience I had.

When I complained by phone about the cut, I was told it was my fault as I said it was okay before I left. I didn't want a blow dry so it had just been dried to the side I didn't see how uneven it was until I got home. I had asked for parking costs to come back as it is expensive to park and I am out of work. I was only having it cut for an interview. He didn't want to see pictures and told me if I came back I could park outside in the loading bay for it to be put right as it would only take a couple of minutes. As he constantly told me it was my fault not his, I decided not to go back as I was too worried that it might be worse. He didn't apologise once or accept any responsibility and was very intimidating.

I usually book with Marianne when I get my hair cut here (one of the senior stylists) and she is a great laugh and good at what she does. You may have to wait sometimes if they are finishing off with their last client, but although this could be frustrating if you were on a deadline, it does show that they take their time with every customer and don't just rush you out of the chair for the next booking. They will always leave you with a proper coffee of your choice (I usually go for a latte) and there are your expected hair magazines to flick through - I tend to bring a book just in case. They have a separate area out back to get your hair washed and their seats recline and have the option of a massage (although I wasn't overly struck on this feature). I believe that they also offer a range of scalp treatments from here. Marianne has always been very helpful in discussing the style I wanted and provides just the right amount of chatter without becoming too much. Prices are what you would expect from a salon and I usually get set back £25. She will always offer me a free fringe cut in the interim before my next appointment and they do sometimes have vouchers or incentives to come back. All in all a pleasant salon where you will get a professional service.

Novice level extensions I'm afraid. I wanted sculpted gel,…read moreI emailed the salon before making an appointment and was assured that I would get sculpted gels. Went ahead and booked the appointment to be advised upon turning up that they would be acrylic extensions instead. Decided to continue with the appointment as it was a treat for me to have someone else do my nails for a change.....I should have booked elsewhere I think! I have come away with unbalanced extensions, side walls of my nails bulge out disproportionately, the nails were not paired on each hand to match up the lengths (thumbs, forefingers, ring fingers etc are all longer or shorter than the other hand). I wanted almond shaped nails with a slightly rounded point and brought photos of a) what my nails were previously when I had down them and b) what shape and length I ideally wanted to aim for. Whilst I appreciate that an exact match from a photo is a tall ask for any of us, having nails that match each other is desirable! Some are slightly pointy, some are slightly rounded or squared off at the free edge. The centre of the points is not signed the the centre of the nail so I have some nails that slope off either left or right. The product is too thick at the cuticle so even though these extensions are a few days old, when the product grows out they are going to look horrendous. To top it off I have 6 cuts across 3 fingers and a thumb where the tech caught my cuticles when "shaping" my extensions so for the last few days I have had very sore fingers and the occasional bleeding from the thumb!! This to me, is a novice error as files should be files to reduce the sharpness of the edges on new files (although she wasn't using new files, just a lot of force!) An insight into a nail tech would be the state of their own nails. It was kind of a golden rule when I trained that your nails were always a direct advertisement of your work so should therefore display a clean, tidy, professional image - at least painted!!!! My nail techs hands appeared hard worked. The nails were in need of filing, were chipped and peeling with very little polish left on any of the nails. I trained years ago as a nail tech and considered this a one off treat as I have never had someone else do my nails (certainly not outside nail systems training). Even with my lack of exposure to clients (as I didn't pursue it as a full time profession) I would never a) let someone walk away with what is currently on my hands without working to fix the overall structure of the nails, shape, lengths, thickness, lumps on the surface, the hairs that are set into the gel top coat the she put on top - you know, the little things!!! or b) feel that I could charge for this set. Seriously disappointed in the quality of these, will not be returning, will be continuing to do my own, will be exploring bolt on courses to further my training - although it appears my own standards of working practises, performance, service delivery and what I would be prepared for someone to walk away with are evidently higher as they currently stand. I'll give 2 stars because the staff are nice and friendly and the decor looks clean. They appear to soak metal utensils in barbicide which is always a bonus but I doubt they use disinfectible files and don't recall the tech spraying the files before she used them.
