The Treatment Rooms is one of those beauty salons that prides itself on being a little bit upmarket, a little but luxurious. The reception area is clean, minimalist and reminiscent of a health spa, which is the idea, obviously. When I first moved to Brighton, I was recommended the place so I thought I'd give it a go... Yes, the place smells good and yes, they sell lots of posh lotions and potions, but I have not experienced anything resembling luxury during my visits here. Ok, so admittedly hair removal isn't posh, but their hair removal prices are, so I expected a little more than waiting 20 minutes before being gruffly shuffled into a tiny room. People get tired and stressed, I know that, but I like a healthy dollop of friendliness to ease me through the grim experience of being waxed! I found my beauty therapist to be quite aggressive- she didn't test the temperature of the wax and didn't really ask what I wanted. The Treatment Rooms offer many treatments, which sound lovely, and despite my waxing experience, I would go back to try them, as I imagine this is where they excel. Really lovely spa experience, lots of attention to detail has been made here to make the experience relaxing and luxurious. I went with my husband and we particularly liked that we were given time to relax before our treatments. Having changing rooms where you are given a locker, dressing gown and slippers or flip flops at the start makes such a difference and encourages you to start the process of relaxing and enjoying the experience. I have been for far too many massages where you are asked to strip off next to the table and leave your clothes and bags in a heap on a chair, then subsequently spent the first half of the massage just trying to relax. Before my treatment the massage therapist soaked my feet in warm water, again allowing you the time to unwind before the massage began. I then had a wonderful hot stone massage and am now totally converted. It was so warming and soothing I didn't want it to end! After the treatment you are taken to the relaxation room where we were given herbal tea and water and encouraged to spend further time relaxing on the loungers before returning to the changing rooms. Again it was lovely to prolong that calm feeling and not feel rushed out as soon as the treatment was over. My massage therapist was so lovely and friendly but more importantly didn't attempt to sell me any of "all of the products we've used on you today" which I really appreciated. The only reason I can't give this five stars is that the initial waiting area did feel a little cramped and drafty as it was a cold day and you are waiting on the landing in a dressing gown. Also the noise outside the window of the treatment room seemed at points like a bottle bank and was quite hard to drown out. I will definitely return though and was very pleased that the loyalty card scheme doesn't have an expiry date like certain other day spas I've been too (I mean you Champneys). read more

Like Louise E, I too was treated to a birthday treat by my mother at The Treatment Rooms, and it was absolutely luxurious. They give you a towel and slippers (yes, slippers! Must be a real spa) and pop you in your room which is to be a personal Heaven on Earth for the next hour or so, depending how much indulgence you deserve. I had a facial, hot stone massage, pedicure and manicure (OK, so I was there for a little more than an hour!), each of which was carried out by the attentive and un-intrusive therapist. They leave you lying there after your treatment to 'relax' - just in case you haven't already - and the whole experience is very soothing. I agree with the others, it is very expensive, and although I have been back for various treatments, I have found other salons in Brighton which are equally as good and don't break the bank. There's nothing better than sitting in a beauty salon being pampered. Even if you're just popping in for a quick wax, you've got feel like you're being looked after. In The Treatment Rooms, the most popular 'day spa' in Brighton, you can expect no less. Even just sitting on a sofa in the foyer, drinking herbal tea is immensely relaxing. You pay a little extra for the treatments here compared to some other places in the City Centre, but it's easy to see why so many people choose to spend more and come here. The staff are friendly, always smiling and during every treatment they pay so much attention to detail to make sure everything is done properly. I had a pedicure today, which was absolutely delightful. They don't mention on their price list or website what a pedicure involves so I had no idea what to expect. First, they bathe and exfoliate your feet, then dry them off and massage cuticle cream into your toes. After pushing back and trimming the cuticles, they give you a foot and ankle massage which is so relaxing I think I tripped into a meditative state... then they pop your feet into plastic bags and into heated booties (like slippers crossed with an electric blanket) before finally moisturising and painting your nails. Absolutely lush, and most definitely recommended. Their waxes are brilliant too they have the option of using hot wax (as opposed to the cloth strips) which solidifies on your skin. Although not pain free, it is significantly more bearable than a traditional wax and doesn't leave any sticky residue on your skin. You have to book a bit further in advance though as only a limited number of therapists are trained to use the hot wax. You'll also have to pay a few pounds more for the privilege, but it's definitely worth it. read more

I've been a couple of times. Once for a back massage and once for a facial. The back massage was generic/swishy/vaguely swedish style. I'm no expert on massage, but have a friend who is - from my description she didn't rate the massage at all. Very little skill or thinking required by the person doing the massage. It was very, very expensive, and just not worth the money. I felt no different leaving compared to when I walked in. The second time was a facial. I seemed to have been given the most junior, timid and inexperienced person in the town. I had one to compare to - in a Las Vegas hotel. It was like night and day, with the treatment in Vegas far better than the treatment rooms, and much cheaper too! In my view this is one of those places for people with money to burn. read more

The first time I went to Treatment rooms was for a massage, as a birthday treat and I felt so relaxed afterwards that I actually fell a sleep. But that was fine because at this place they wouldn't dream of stressing you out in any way so I was left under a pleasantly heated blanket to get up in my own time and then make my way to the relaxation room, which does exactly what it says. Everything from the furniture to the music to the incense to the wonderful herbal tea, work in harmony to make you forget all you cares and feel serene. Trust me this is a lot coming from me cause I usually hate all that hippy, new age stuff. The staff are fantastic and the whole experience is worth every penny. This is one of the most highly regarded beauty salons in Brighton and certainly when you go there you can see why. The actual salon is over three floors and beautifully decorated, there is so much attention to detail that you can see alot of thought has gone into it. From the moment you step inside you feel relaxed and so muchcare goes into making sure that whatever you're going for you have a special experience. If you're lucky enough to go for a massage you can relax with a herbal tea in their chill out room for as long as you like. The staff are very proffessional and always look smart and well presented in their uniforms. They offer all of your standard beauty treatment plus many specialised treatments and packages. It's definately not cheap but if you fancy a treat or want to give someone a lovely present this is the place. They also sell a wide range of products including my favourate Eve Lom. read more
