Hrmmm.... Let's just say we have made the trek to this store two times in the past and they were closed for various reasons. I'd read the reviews on how they sell out of brisket early in day so we planned this trip (we called to make sure they were open) and planned on being there around 530p for dinner. Remember they open at 4p... we get there, i go to order my 'go to' and eagerly anticipated brisket and am told that it's not ready yet? Okay. Kind of brain boggled. I order chicken and pork instead for The nice girl running the register. The chicken was okay, the pork was better than the chicken? Would I order either of these again? Nope. I really had an issue with no brisket? The lady who was also at the register was trying to explain the logic to me on if I had preordered the brisket, it would have been ready for me? Preorders preceded orders at the counter so they need to fill those before but remember, it's 530 and brisket not ready So... I stood at the counter trying to understand the logic of this, I'm sure I was annoying her to no end but then owner and I'm guessing his son sitting easily within hearing distance did nothing to help her or myself understand this? If you're open at 4p, why not just have brisket ready to go at that time? So we sat and ate our chopped chicken and pork inside at the tables with not one mention of brisket being available for us. I'd love to support these folks. This is the kind of place we should all be supporting but sure made it hard for me to want to come back. All the meat is chopped? "world's most oakyest BBQ" Drove about 40 minutes to try the cider place nearby for lunch... they decided to be closed. So now we're just looking for options. We like bbq, so why not? Pulled up and there is smoke all over the place. A good sign that they are actually smoking meat. Come in and the cashier is super friendly and helpful, but really knows nothing about allergy options/gluten, so that family member just got a plate of plain pulled pork. It ended up pretty fatty and lacked any smoke flavor... so without sauce it was not good. I got the beef brisket sandwich with medium sauce. The slaw was fresh and the sauce had a decent kick to it. The beef was cubed (I prefer my brisket sliced or shredded) and wasn't super tender. The bun was listed as toasted, although it seemed more like it was steamed or microwaved... as it was piping hot but has no sign of toasting. Sides of slaw were fine, but not spectacular. Mashed Potatoes were mostly butter. They were perfectly set up to totally wow us and make up for another location being closed.. but it fell flat. read more

I was told this was really good so I stopped in. My mistake. I'm embarrassed to say I ate there. I ordered ribs- poor quality, more fat than meat even after cooked, not tender, overcooked, too hot to eat. It came with sides- I had collards without flavor, cole slaw that looked like it was dished up hours ago with a film on top, Texas toast only toasted on 1 side that tasted like wonder bread. Partner ordered brisket- it was little round circles of cheap meat that was mostly gristle. When I say round circles I mean less than 1/2 inch pork leftovers that look like loose dog food with sauce. He also had collards, and hush puppies without flavor. I ate a little of my ribs, a few bites of toast, and a forkful of greens. He ate a few bites of "brisket" and all of his greens and some coleslaw. We threw the rest away and went in search of dinner elsewhere. We are frugal people and almost never throw food away. Yuck. Decided to stop at Beaugards Southern Bar b que on the way to Cowan Lake. I had read reviews and checked out the menu before leaving Columbus. I was really surprised upon getting our order that most of the reviews were good. I had the pulled pork plate. Probably the worst bbq experience I have ever had ! The meat was not pulled it was all small chopped.The sauce was good but the meat had a strange after taste. The slaw was watery as was the applesauce.My friend got the ribs and said they were like rubber. Spent $20.00 on a meal we couldn't even eat. Took a few bites and threw it away. The only plus was that the young man who took our order was polite and helpful. Will not be going back. read more

I lived in Tennessee for 10 years, so I've had some good BBQ in my day. Beaugard's is right up there. My husband doesn't like that they chop the pork instead of pulling it, but he agrees with me that the flavor is outstanding. As much as I love the meat, the sides are just as good. My kids say the macaroni is their favorite of any they've had anywhere. I really enjoy the greens. The flavor is full of depth (like all good greens should be) and their hot sauce goes with it perfectly. This is great BBQ!! The food ws outstanding! I tried the pulled pork sandwich (1/2 lb with their homemade hot BBQ sauce) and it was one of the best pork sandwiches I have ever eaten. I also tried the baked beans which I liked and the cole slaw (also good). But the food isn't the only thing great about this restaurant. My family and I were made to feel right at home as soon as we walked in. The owner was right behind the kitchen counter, welcoming us. He acted like we have been friends our whole lives. I've never felt more welcome in any restaurant (I mean that). The owner even walked around the restaurant checking how everyone was doing. First? Marty. He's a force of personality, very interested in his customers. He wants to know the families that eat at his restaurant and he wants them to know him too. He makes me want to come back, just to say hi and check in. The prices are very reasonable but keep in mind if it wasn't cooked in the smoker out back, it's probably store bought. Not necessarily bad, just make sure you know. A sampler plate costs $13, where most BBQ joints charge $20+. Sides are fairly generous and only $1.25. The food that did come out of the smoker? Unbelievably good. The sauces were great (try a ratio of 3:1 mild to hot) and the pork was cooked to perfection. There was a considerable (and tasty) bark, which is hard to get just right. If I had a complaint, it's that the pork was finely chopped, not pulled, making it hard to "dip" which is how I like my sandwiches. We'll be back for ribs, for certain. read more
