This is sad for me to post because I love Beatrix markets in the city.....but this has been underwhelming both times that I've come here now. I've felt like some things were good but a majority were a bust. Drinks....on point. That i am definitely not going to debate. On my most recent visit, we tried out the restaurant week menu. Ahi crudo, flavorless. Seriously though.....how can something with jalapeño be lacking any flavor? Pot roast dumplings, divine and such a complexity of richness and creaminess. Chicken bebe....again, flavorless. Miso-Carmel salmon, I could eat it everyday! Oh my Carmel pie....holy moly, amazing. Tall dark handsome chocolate cake, super thick and beyond rich....rich to the point that it tasted burnt. The visit prior, I just felt the same way....it was just hit or miss, not even an in between. Since their menu is small and it rotates, I would think that everything would be delicious and that unfortunately just isn't the case. read more

Cozy spot to grab a coffee or cocktail. The small coffee bar and actual bar are located next to each other which is very convenient. My party did not dine at Beatrix so I cannot review the food. But the atmosphere and lighting and seating was cozy and comfortable and a perfect spot to wind down after a busy day of Christmas shopping. read more

Food and service were just ok, but the restaurant was absolutely filthy. We were initially seated next to the kitchen and seeing how disgusting it looked, we debated on whether to eat here at all. We decided to just move tables, but there was about 10 french fries on the floor by our new table. Everyone working there had blinders on, because there were dishes/glasses not picked up for over an hour in some areas, garbage and food littering the floors and the bathrooms were a mess. I did notice the manager eating most of the time in the kitchen and when I alerted him to the issues prior to our leaving, he seemed to not give 2 f's...oh and we watched emplotyee after employee looking at the fries on the floor and just ignoring them. Really disappointed we ate here and despite having a fair amount of staff (I counted at least 14 working the floor) none of them take pride in where they work or what they do. Horrible. read more

Food and the settings are wonderful . Truly enjoyed the Brussel side as well as the salad for starters.

Very pretty atmosphere here with good service. However, the food was a little bland. With so much freshness added to the plate, it really lacked flavor. Everyones plate looked beautiful so if you're coming for pictures, you won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I have dined at Beatrix 5 times over the past 4 years or so. Tonight will be our last visit. My wife had the 'prime steak' and I had the enchiladas. The food came to our table in under 10 minutes after the server took our order and that was a bit shocking. After all, how can these meals be assembled and cooked in such a short time? Well, it was obvious once we rec'd our food that they were both merely heated up a bit before being brought to our table. The enchiladas were deep fried, crusty, and nearly impenetrable to the knife. The steak was about a half inch thick and had every appearance of flank steak; it had also been artificially tenderized to the point where it resembled ground meat for than a 'prime' cut. Unlike most restaurants where the server inquires as to the client's satisfaction multiple times during the meal; here we were never asked. The reason for the lack of interest in our opinion is obvious, no one cares about anything but lining their pockets in this place. It was an extremely disappointing dining experience. read more

Hands down the Best breakfast I've eaten so far this year. Lemon pancakes and French toast were utterly delicious. If you're staying at a local hotel (like we were) do yourself a favor and skip the tired hotel breakfast and come here instead. So good. read more

We stopped here for brunch this week on a road trip from Vermont to Utah. It's a completely spontaneous find but we were extremely happy. This is probably the best brunch place we've been to and we are originally from Massachusetts. I had the lemon pancakes which were amazing. Husband had the jalapeño avocado toast which he said was good but he loved his chicken sausages on the side. I agree the chicken was very good. Husband also really enjoyed a bit of the pancakes along with my leftovers. Love it. For drinks, I had the chai latte and it had a nice little kick to it like chai should. Husband had a watermelon drink which also had a nice kick- yum! Super comfy seats. Great music (80s). I love 80s music so this place would be my jam if I lived there. Considering moving there maybe for this place. Go here and not the Cheesecake Factory! Highly recommend! read more

Great vibes! I've met friends there a few times. I tried out the coffee bar and the featured drinks, which were yummy. Beautiful and wide range of sweet treats at the coffee counter. My husband and I came here for brunch on Sunday, we had reservations and were sat immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and offered great suggestions. I had the baked french toast and he had the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. Both were excellent! We also had a side of brown sugar bacon that was delicious. The chicken sausage was good too, but the bacon was the winner for me. The Pour Decisions drink was refreshing and fruity without being too sweet. We will be back for sure! read more

I really want to give Beatrix a 5 star but have yet to have a 5 star experience. Last night was no exception. We did have 2 reasons to return again, the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower risotto cakes are fantastic. Sadly, that's where it ended for me. I had the fish tacos and the corn tortillas were steamed which means dried out and cracked inedible tortillas (they need to be griddled in order to taste and function well) the fish was cooked well but not warm, salad mix was dry and uninteresting, guacamole was very bland. A little lime slices would have helped but overall, would not recommend. Husband's hamburger was really nothing special. 2 of the 3 other guest did enjoy their food. But nothing came out hot. I'd go back for drinks and appetizers, prob not dinner. We recognize it was a busy night and so gave the waiter grace for slow service. But every single staff member, server and manager should be grabbing hot food and running it to the table. Not getting well seasoned, dressed, hot and properly prepared food is a whole different issue. read more

So glad they are open again! My 2 friends and I had a late lunch here today. I wish I would have taken pictures of the delicious food! I want to let you know about the excellent service you will get if you dine here...Audrey was AMAZING! She was very knowledgeable about all the offerings and her suggestions were spot on! She also made a delightful Negroni! She advises us about the Lettuce Eats rewards program and helped us navigate the setup so we could all start earning rewards. Would definitely come back here and ask to be in her section. The woman at the pastry bar was also very helpful in selecting an assortment of their baked goods to bring home. Only thing missing was our favorite manager Steven :( Hope he comes back soon...missed his delightful conversations:) We ordered a side of fries for the appetizer- Audrey's recommendation for making sure you had a fry, pepper and lemon and then dip it in the sauce was terrific! Try it, you will love it. For food, my friends had the mushroom risotto and the straight A salad with grilled chicken added per Audrey's recommendation...well presented and tasty. Had an excellent Birthday breakfast/brunch with friends today. The food is always yummy and very good service. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance. One warning, if you are planning to have a brunch cocktail, make sure your reservation is after 10am, which is the time they begin selling alcohol. I came here for Chicago restaurant week with my boyfriend and it did not disappoint! We were almost 15 minutes late due to a snow storm but they kindly kept our reservation and saved our table. We were able to try different appetizers, entrées and desserts from their menu. The chicken meatballs with the pita bread and the caramel pie were my favorite. Came here for brunch with the family and was blown away by their interior. It's gorgeous! Not only was the ambiance so cute, the food was so yummy. I ordered a cinnamon matcha latte with oatmilk and a Cesar salad with chicken. It was so fresh and a nice twist on classic dishes. I cannot rave how good the chocolate cake was. Came here to catch with an old friend! FOOD: - I ordered the Chicken Tinga. This was soooo delicious. It was super savory and filled with flavor. The egg on top provided nice texture to how much gravy and shredded chicken was in the dish. It was a little messy to eat so maybe don't get this for a first date lol. So good though, can't wait to get it again. - I got some Orange juice virgin drink. This was very fresh. Not too sweet or too sour. - I got the pecan pie. Now i am a DIE HARD LOVER of pecan pie. Unfortunately this pecan pie was a little too crunchy and it hurt my mouth when i ate it. The filling was not that impressive either. I have however had their caramel pie AND THAT IS AMAZIING. AMBIENCE: - The place is very clean and chic. I loved the inside decor. It appears kind of upscale. But the environment was super chill. - Dress up or dress casual. Just don't show up in sweatpants and a torn shirt. It is oakbrook after all. - The place was filled with a younger crowd, but there were also families. Great place for all ages in my opinion. SERVICE: - Phenomenal. Our waitress was very very polite and efficient. She was excellent with refilling our waters, giving us suggestions and handling our bill quickly. I've been to Beatrix in the River North a handful of times, and when a friend suggested Oak Brook, I was apprehensive of having a similar experience here. All the Beatrix locations are absolutely stunning, but the River North spot had me looking for more, from a flavor perspective. Oak Brook did not disappoint! It's a beautiful restaurant, with lots of nooks and curtains, available to separate out for private events. We started with two appetizers, and the brussels sprouts were incredible - a perfect amount of heat and flavor. I ordered a steak, and while it was fantastic, I was surprised at the portion size and some of the description felt misleading (stated it had a blue cheese sauce - I specifically told the server I was a blue cheese fan, yet I didn't even see or taste blue cheese). We also ordered a few goodies from the bakery to go, and they were great the next day (a pumpkin muffin and huge cookie). Our server was not very personable but the job got done. I think this would be ideal for a happy hour due to the fun cocktails, great appetizers and atmosphere. read more

Big fan of Beatrix and loved their honey fried chicken sandwich - best one in the area, ordered it regularly. However, visited the other day for lunch, and we both ordered the sandwich, which looked and tasted completely different! The light, fluffy, super-crunchy breading was now a flat, brown, hard coating like you would get on frozen chicken tenders for kids. The chicken was dry and flavorless. They skimped on the usually delicious apple slaw, and even the fries were hard and cold. So disappointed, as we look forward to going there regularly. Please bring back the awesome sold-out crispy, moist, tasty sandwich we enjoyed! Now is not the time to go cheap on your quality - customers won't return. read more
