I've been having my DJ equipment serviced at Beatlab for well over a decade at this point. The people of Atlanta are very lucky to have them, I drive from Nashville. It's a work shop and retail selling records, Dj equipment, and art supplies. Mega and his small team do great work out of a small space. I read some of the reviews saying the staff is rude, those reviews are from people who don't understand how to act in someone's work shop. Salute to Mega and crew. I used to frequent this place a lot back in the day. One day recently I went here to purchase some needles. I tried using my cards but they didn't work. That was my dumb mistake because that was a sign that I shouldn't be shopping there. Mega mentioned that I should go get cash and that he would see that my swipes were refunded if any money was taken off of my card. I went to get cash and purchased just one stylus. I kept an eye out for the refund and never got it. I went back up to the store to mention that I never got the refund. Mind you I never received a receipt. Mega says "It's been refunded." I never got the money back. It was a sum of $150+ On top of that, I spent $75 in cash for one stylus. Long story short, Beatlab is shady now. It sucks because I used to love this place but shady business practices like that are not cool. I'm going to try and get my money back somehow but that place is a no fly zone now. I even see now on some bad reviews, the store will say "fake review". That's not the case. I thought I could trust this place but I guess I learned my lesson. A small little musty trailer shop located right next to an amazing perfect example of a record store, "Wax N Facts". Upon entering the store, the worker doesn't acknowledge you. He will be on his phone, probably looking at god knows what. Asked the worker to price a record for me since 99% of the records there don't have prices on them, because the worker is too lazy to price items. Gave me a quote for a Good- record about twice the value it would be if it were VG+/NM on Discogs. This is not a shop for collectors. But if you are a producer and just want to sample from vinyl , this may be the place for you. They have a lot of beat up records for under $5. It's a true dig , nothing is organized. In your opinion, is a "Good" condition "Gloryhallastoopid" worth $40? Probably not. read more

Very weird experience. We were welcomed in and everything was normal in the beginning. Then about 10 minutes in we were kicked out with no explanation. We were abruptly told the shop was closed and escorted out for seemingly no reason. If there was an issue, the grown up thing to do would be to vocalize that. We were simply in there to buy records. There wasn't even anyone else in there. I don't know how this place gets any business, the guy running it is a weirdo. Avoid, the selection sucks anyways. read more

I needed some last-minute repairs to my Pro-ject turntable and not only were they able to accommodate me and repair it quickly, but the cost was more affordable than I had anticipated, which is rare with any electronics repair shop. Great spot for record buying & DJs. Yes, it's small, but they do pack in a lot of product. Employees are nice & friendly...& knowledgeable. Prices are a bit more than what I'm used to seeing, but then again, what vinyl I looked at was brand new. If you're a vinyl collector, definitely stop in here while in Five Points. This is my favorite dj spot in ATL. First glance of the setup and you can tell it's owned by Djs. There are albums and vinyl surrounding the entire store with some of the latest turntables, mixers and dj gadgets in the middle. I try to visit at least every couple of months to check out the pages dj gear and stay abreast of what's going on on the industry. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful; whether you are a veteran dj or a beginner. In addition to the latest dj gear for sale, they also customize Technic 1200's. They did an incredible job with mine. I wanted them painted orange and they look great. Overall, if you and a real dj in Atlanta, you have to stop by this store. Ask for Mega. read more

I went to the BeatLAB to retrieve my turntables after I left them the day before to receive service. I called the store before making the trip and someone answered the phone and said that The BeatLAB would be open until 7pm. When I arrived at 5pm, no one was there, the lights were on and the iron gate inside was shut. I proceeded to wait for 2 hrs and no one came. I even asked the salon next door if they knew how to reach your employee and she told me, that "he does this all the time"...he always leaves customers waiting. The unfortunate part about this (besides the fact that I waited outside your store for 2 hours), is the fact I needed my turntables since I had a gig starting at 7pm. I lost $150 yesterday because your employee decided to leave 2 hours early, (breaking a promise to be open until 7pm). Not to mention other customers besides myself were waiting impatiently, and one of them even told me that he also called to confirm your store hours. I am very disappointed since this was my first trip to your store. I usually buy vinyl records in New York City. My last purchase at A1 Records in Brooklyn, NY totaled over $800.00. I wanted to give The BeatLAB a try, but instead The BeatLAB experience cost me $150.00 in lost revenue plus a tainted reputation with owners and followers who were turned away from the event yesterday, due to the fact that the DJ was unable to perform. Furthermore, I explained all of this to the owner/manager and all I received was an apology and some chit chat about the fact that he was busy traveling. THIS IS NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Dope independent record shop opened by a couple of Atlanta based DJ's / Record collectors. Stock is all used records They are a certified dealer of lots of new gear and software. There is also some very nice used vintage gear that is worth peeping. I wouldn't say the store is exclusive to DJ's which I think is a common misconception. If you like Hip-Hop/Rap or any kind of Rare Groove (Funk, Soul, Jazz), there is a a large selection of LP's all in very good condition. If you need a turntable fixed and/or modified, then the man called MEGA can hook you up. I've seen him fix an MPC to so he may work on other gear too. I have sent a couple of folks over there for repair on turntables and they have all been happy with the service provided. If you need a cable or connector inna pinch then this is your place too. Now onto the juice...which is the vinyl! VINYL: 7" / 45's 4 boxes each planted at a corner of the store. A diverse mix of Funk, Soul, 80's & 70's hits as well as some independent releases. Have scored a hand full of interested white labels in the Hip-Hop and Mid-Tempo breaks genres as well as a Reggae version of "Ring Of Fire" LP's / 12" One side of the store is Hip-Hop/Rap, FunkSoulJazz and Reggae/Dancehall. The other side is Dance music of it's various genres - House, Progress, DnB, Breaks and Downtempo. I mainly dig on the left side, but I do peep the Downtempo and Deep House section and when I do I usually find something nice and useful. Reggae/Dancehall - section is small, but there are some very useful cuts to be found and some Dancehall classics! Funk Soul Jazz - It's easy to blow your $$$ here. Alot of good selections I would say leaning heavier to Soul & Jazz LPs. There is also some good comps. Hip-Hop / Rap - section is large and can be somewhat intimidating. I have only dug in the Hip-Hop section twice but both times I have come up with some gems and they have been moderately priced. You'll need to block off some time to go thru the whole section. * All the vinyl I have handled in the store would appear to me to be in Very Good to Near Mint cond. **There are 4 listening stations. Ask someone at the counter for a needle if you would like to listen to your finds. ***Last time I was in the building there was a LARGE selection of $1 records on the floor. I only looked thru 2 crates and didn't pull any selections, so I can't say what the grades or finds may be on those. It looked pretty random thou. This place is awesome, when you talk to the owner you're talking to a fellow DJ and someone who truly has a passion for the art, not just a used electronics salesman. We talked shop on turntables, gave me good advice on fixing vs buying, again not trying to make the quick buck. Gave me estimates on items that may need to be fixed on my private party purchase and also helped crunch the numbers accurately. Best place to shop for DJs and producers in Atlanta. They have a great record selection, definitely quality over quantity at this place. Their collection is constantly getting updated so it's always a good idea to check often. They also carry a large array of equipment for DJ's and producers; Cartridges, turntables, mixers, vintage and used synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, etc. Got a used MPC1000 for a great price from here last year. They also do repairs on Technics 1200s. Got the platter fixed last year and got it back quickly and in great condition for a good price. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, which is a lot more than I can say for most staff working in the Pro Audio/DJ section of most big-box music stores like Guitar Center. read more

He took the time to show us exactly what he was doing, and carefully fixed us up! After the 15/20 minute ordeal we were all good and he couldn't have been more kind. Extremely helpful. I went to BeatLab on a recommendation by Criminal records in search of a stylus for a vintage Shure cartridge. The guy that was there initially sold me the stylus he said I needed. When the cartridge arrived from Japan the stylus didn't fit. So I took the stylus and cartridge back to BeatLab and their was a different guy manning the store. I forgot to get his name but he was a white guy where the guy that sold me the stylus was black. Please don't harp on that fact. Thank you. Anyway the new guy immediately ascertained that I had the wrong stylus and advised me that they didn't carry the one I needed and without hesitation refunded me for the stylus. He also told me which one I needed. I ordered the stylus online from a reputable dealer and when it arrived I attempted to combine the two and subsequently damaged one of the head shell wires on the cartridge. I called BeatLab and asked if they sold the single wire as opposed to buying the set and was told they did. I went straight there and the same guy that refunded me was there and installed the wire for me for free. I went home and connected the cartridge to my turntable (A Vintage JVC QL-Y5) to finally spin some vinyl and it sounded horrible! I called BeatLab and explained and he told me to bring my TT to the store. I did and he twisted this tweeked that and voila! Harmony! Beautiful Harmony! I had never intended on using the Shure setup I really just wanted it for nostalgia because it too is vintage classic. So I asked if he had a setup I could replace it with that would give me decent sound and he hooked up a Grado set that also sounded pretty good-Sold! While there he soldered a clamp on my TT ground wire for better connection. I'm partially disabled and the TT has some heft so he even carried it to my car for me. Listen Atlanta, if you have an aspiring DJ you know, or someone old skool (I'm 56) like me who wants to get back into vinyl, this IS the place! Mega, Is the most realistic and genuine phono cartridge or turntable guy in ATL ITP. Records are in terrible shape and UTTERLY overpriced! For example, your basic 8$ record in NM condition here would cost 30$. Whoever prices the records must be blind or stupid. This is one of those predatory record stores that preys on those looking to enter the record collecting world.
