This was my first time trying this bear steak location! I have been to the original college location many years ago, when it first opened, and really enjoyed it. This restaurant is in a more busy space, within the wellington market inside of 'The Well'. I appreciated the ample seating space, compared to their last location which was mostly a takeaway spot. I ordered the original steak sandwich (chimichurri on the side) and a side of fries. I believe the fries are cooked in beef tallow but it wasn't super noticeable in my opinion. The food took about 15 minutes to be prepared. It was a good relatively affordable steak sandwich for downtown Toronto, but I do wish it was slightly warmer when it came out. Overall a positive experience and I would like to try their steak sandwiches with cheese next time.

First things first, the food came out fairly quickly (within 5 minutes) and was hot/fresh. The customer service ok although I was surprised they were already out of their special sandwich around lunch hour. In terms of food itself, I enjoyed the sandwich, the bread was soft and the meat was tender and smothered in chimichurri sauce. The sauce had a kick to it, which I liked but I found it to be a tad too salt. I also got fries on the side, which were good (crispy and thin) but the sauce they serve with it was delicious (chimichurri aoli perhaps)? Overall, a good sandwich and not a totally bad way to spend $20 (seems standard for Toronto).

Finally got around to trying Bear Steak after seeing it all over social media. Thankfully it opened up at the Well and I was in the area for a concert so the timing was perfect. It's in the newer area of the Wellington market with lots of new spots and lots of seating. There was no line and the staff was very efficient. Got a buzzer and waited just a bit as they made the sandwich fresh. Finally dug in a the steak was a nice medium rare. The bread was soft and complemented the steak well. The Chims sauce was definitely a highlight that brought the whole sandwich together. It had a nice balance of being herbaceous, spicy, and flavourful. I was tempted to get more to bring home if I didn't have plans after the fact. Definitely a must-try spot for sandwich and steak lovers alike.

Tried the steak sandwich and it was pretty good overall. I found the steak a bit salty for my taste, but it was cooked well and it was a generous portion of steak. The sauce was a bit spicy which I liked. I also liked the texture of the bread - was soft but still had a bit of a crunch.

The bear steak has the best steak sandwiches. The steak is made only medium rare and is sliced into small pieces in a soft sandwich bun. I also ordered fries which came with chimichuri sauce. The only odd thing is they don't have other condiments like ketchup for the fries. It still all tasted amazing! The sandwiches take some time to be made but it's totally worth the wait!

Great spot to try if you love meat! Their menu is limited to just 2 sandwiches and 1 burger, but they simply stick to what they do best. This location is in the newish Well food hall, which is one level down from street level (take the stairs down). Lots of first come first serve seating because of this. The service was great and very friendly. They had a steady stream of customers and seem to be one of the busiest spots in the hall. When we went (Wednesday before a Jays game) they were already out of the roast pork, so we both had the steak sandwich and fries. Fries were a hit and come with a dipping sauce. The steak sandwich has large cuts of rare steak on a ciabatta bun with a chimichurri that has some kick! The meat is definitely the star of the sandwich.

    Review Highlights - Bear Steak

In the future, I'll probably stick with their Original Steak sandwich, mostly because that chimichurri is just next level.

The bakery production is at the back of the store. I stopped by this location of Cobs Bread on a Wed afternoon. As soon as I entered I got a whiff of fresh bread and was suddenly overwhelmed by the amount of breads and baked goods on display. I've had their cheese pullapart loafs as well as danishes previously before, however, this time I was at the store for a free cinnamon bun as it was a free birthday reward for being a member of their Cobs Club. The cashier was friendly and asked if I wanted either a cinnamon bun with icing or plain. I opted for a cinnamon bun with icing and she put it in a box for me before handing it over. During my time at the store the place had a steady flow of customers, coming in to buy baked goods. My cinnamon bun was big and tasted great! I heated it up a bit when I got home. Overall, a convenient location in the Annex for freshly baked bread and goods!

I agree that the price for a sandwich plus side salad is quite pricey ($13 including tax) but I like the fact that everything tastes fresh and light, and you have alot of options to customize your sandwich in a healthy way. I ordered the rosemary focaccia with chicken breast, arugula, avocado and chipotle spread plus their usual sprinkle of salt, pepper and squeeze of lime. It's like a gourmet sandwich - the bread was thick, soft with hints of rosemary and yummy. The salad was mostly arugula with carrots- this was very lightly seasoned but at least I won't be hit with itis going back to work! Definitely would come again, although not regularly since it's kinda pricey.

I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.
